The Industry-standard for Audio Production

Creating music with Avid Pro Tools is designed for beginners and seasoned pros alike. Its optimized audio engine is the epitome of efficiency. Its interface is as easy to use as a tape deck. And its editing is legendary. This industry-standard DAW software is loaded with innovations. Track Commit and Track Freeze free up system resources during intense sessions. Improved waveform visualization powers you through big projects while layered Editing safeguards overlapped clips while you're editing. Create quick crossfades with real-time fade manipulation. Connect with other musicians, producers, engineers, and mixers with Avid Cloud Collaboration. If you're an audio professional, you need Avid Pro Tools.
Ultra-flexible recording, editing, and mixing environment

Avid's Pro Tools software is the go-to DAW for countless recording studios. Most major production houses are built around it. In fact, many of us at Sweetwater choose Pro Tools for our own home studios. Navigating Pro Tools is easy, thanks to its streamlined two-window interface. Every tool you need is right at your fingertips. And most advanced functions are only a click away. Forget about spending days or even weeks getting to know the program. With Pro Tools software, you just dive in and establish the workflow that best meets your needs.
Loaded with the quality tools you need for in-the-box music creation

Pro Tools software is the weapon of choice for music composers and electronic musicians. It includes a full lineup of virtual instruments. And it provides the perfect environment and tools to get the most out of them. Import your scores or create new compositions in Pro Tools software's versatile score editor. Or dive into the massive collection of MIDI tools.
Free up your system with Track Commit and Track Freeze

Pro Tools Track Commit prints your tracks, processing and all, to free up resources. And you can print from any insert point in its signal path. Say you have a vocal track with pitch correction and a channel strip. You can print a copy of the tuned vocal without including the other processing. This allows you to continue tweaking the channel strip as you mix. Or you can print all the processing, freeing up DSP resources.

Track Freeze frees up DSP by rendering your entire track on-the-fly. If your track doesn't need further editing, this is a great way to maximize resources. It even works on auxiliary tracks and multi-output virtual instruments! Like Track Commit, you can freeze a track, up to and including, any insert point in its signal path. Activate Track Freeze from the Tracks menu, right-click menu, or snowflake icon. Unfreeze it the same way. A Freeze Status Icon shows if tracks are frozen, and can globally freeze and unfreeze tracks.
Improved waveform visualization and batch fade enhancements for rapid editing

Lining up edits with Pro Tools is a piece of cake. Improved waveform visualization lets you see through overlapping waveforms by making one layer translucent. Improvements to batch fades make drum editing and other repetitive fade tasks instantaneous. Editing has always been one of Pro Tools strong suits, and now it’s even better!
Create crossfade curves from the Edit window

Now you can adjust fade in, out, and crossfade curves right from the Edit Window. Select the Smart Tool and position the cursor over the fade. Then click and drag to the left or right to adjust the fade curve. Real-time fade manipulation is a huge time saver!
Connect and collaborate with other musicians and audio pros

Avid Cloud Collaboration connects you with other musicians, producers, engineers, and mixers. It gives you the necessary tools, workflows, and connections to make your work stand out. No matter where your collaborators are, it's like working in the same studio!
A year of continuous Pro Tools updates

Pro Tools software includes an Annual Upgrade Plan. This provides a year of free product updates as soon as they're available. This isn't a subscription. After the year is up, you can renew the plan and keep receiving updates. If you choose not to renew, the Pro Tools software and the upgrades you've received are yours to keep.

I think you don't understand how updates of Pro Tools work as upgrades. They are not simple updates, they are baked in with iLok and annual subscription.
Any version after 12.x.x will need the proper annual plan associated with the iLok account. You can't simply surrender anything, because your licence in iLok has an expiry date for the future versions. You can only use your latest available version.

PT 12.5.1 (on here windows only!) for the most part is rock solid, stable and works like a dream. 12.5+ is at the point now I can finally think of it as a complete DAW (more complete) to compete with Studio One etc.

However, 12.5-12.6 are known to be even more prone to the out of CPU error, disabling of plugs on load due to it, and CPU spikes (I'm on one of the fastest systems you can currently buy/build and run other DAWS with tons of plugs just fine). PT has always been a bit more fussy with plugs but the AU 12.5 version happened to be the one version that was really bad for it. I don't know what magic they pulled to give us that great release but I would love them to do it again (now with R2R of course) and get the latest PT out because there have been hundreds of very important bug fixes and CPU improvements since 12.5.1 - even 12.6 had a big list of must have fixes, and all the extra fade editing in 12.8 is very useful (comparable to Studio One).

So... just putting it out there, my vote for the latest PT is probably the #1 holy grail right now (Nevermind cubase with its uncrackable CP - cubase is nothing next to PT and S1 now).

And I assume if they brought us 12.5 that it's hard but not impossible to bring 12.8? The CPU issue can be worked around but it can slow down momentum when working.

And of course ever grateful to AU (and R2R) for the PT we can use/try and all the other goodies so this it no whining just pointing out the vital fixes in later versions, and nobody knows when PT13 will drop...
