The video above discusses the Senate version of the PROTECT IP Act, but the House bill that was introduced TODAY is much much worse.

It'll give the government new powers to block Americans' access websites that corporations don't like. The bill would criminalize posting all sorts of standard web content -- music playing in the background of videos, footage of people dancing, kids playing video games, and posting video of people playing cover songs.

This legislation will stifle free speech and innovation, and even threaten popular web services like Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook.

The bill was just introduced: We need to act now to let our lawmakers know just how terrible it is. Will you fill out the form above to ask your lawmakers to oppose the legislation?

In Spain we have a similar law called "Ley Sinde" Ley Sinde (in spanish) The goverment recently enacted this law. So webs that offers copyright material can be judged and closed. Very sad.

So much for "Land of the free and home of the brave"! Sounds like a joke with this legistation. They criticise China, Singapore, Malysia, Russia etc. for blocking many parts of this interwebthingymajig and bring in the same legistation through the back door, hypocrytes, that's all they are. How soon before they remove Henry Crun, my late lovers magnificent music "Henry Crun's magnificent musical kneecaps" from the interwebthingymajig? That's musical history, he won the award for the most musical kneecaps of 1935, or my musical renderings which I give freely to the world under my stage name "Florence Foster Jenkins" which are on utube ( https://youtube.com/watch?v=MM6qntPpyZ0&noredirect=1 ) for all to enjoy (please pop in and enjoy my singing, unfortunately my voice isn't as good as it once was when this was recorded in 1940) But I will chain myself to the gates of the whitehouse if they censor my singing from the net.
With love and gummy toothless kisses from your adopted granny,

Such strange marriage between the entertainment industry and governments makes me think that the power is no joke.

Even when so often it seems that the perfect clowns know how to take decisions to satisfy just group’s interests,
and perform all kind of surveillance, control, schematization against plain individuals with no other value than to be the perfect taxpayers.

I might think as well that the power is so narcissistic that it would never like to upset any endorsed image-maker.

A shortsighted approach, a bit as a modern attempt at the Prohibition,
as if the old "Save A Little Dram For Me" might become a modern "Save a little file for me".

Get it while you can, I've heard that this will be happening in the uk. Its crazy if you ask me the governments don't bring laws in to stop the fat banksters sucking the life completely out a country's economy. The total film industry Revenue is about 75 billion. which is peanuts to what the banksters have stolen. angry

Plus a lot people would not go out and by the stuff in first place so there not really losing money. Its just that someone has sat down and figured out we could make all this money if we could get people to by it.

I say bring it on because what happens what it starts costing 100 billion to try take people to court and stop this, it just does not seem feasible. dunno

Remember most of us live in free country's, but were only free to do what they tell us to do damn

You are free to do what they say...!!!

When the time comes, we'll all be going out to a black market
to get all the cracked software.
You just have to leave your comfort place and go out.

In the end, people will buy less software,
because when they have bought a CD anywhere,
they mostly don't feel committed
to buy the software legally one day.
Same with mp3's and Videos.

It sounds like a golden time for black market dealers,
and they have a big smile already !!!

The industry will not make more money.
They will make less !!!
And still be ripped off... yes no yes

this is another good one for info and "auto-contact" to members of congress. this bill is nightmarish, and must be stopped.

If you have a twitter account, post these links so that hopefully they get distributed to as many people as possible.

Porque "muy triste" ?! ... Are you fighting for your rights ?! ... or you simply sit down crying for something you do nothing to stop ?! ... Is not piracy only an excuse ?! ... What is REALLY sad IMHO is crying for what others do doing nothing, whatever thing you do, to stop them ... but of course, we all have fear to die isn't it ?! ... The point here is that i can't understand all this sadnes then! ...As, if we have fear to do something, doesn't this mean that this sadness is in fact only for OURSELVES and NOTHING ELSE !?

this is so bad for the world it's not even funny.

I mean it's not the censorship of illegal or questionable content that bothers me.

It's that it's putting the power to shut-down access in the hands of companies! Now these are the same guys that only have power because of money that they made under-handily ripping people off, for example cds being sold for $20 when they cost next to nothing to make and giving zip to the artist.

Come on guys fight this not for the censorship but the turds that will have power. It's power in the wrong hands full stop. It's fucking moronified. Your politicians are crooks.

I've started reading the bill, and just at the begining it says:

To promote prosperity, creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation by
combating the theft of U.S. property,
and for other purposes.

Does someone know what are going to be those "other purposes" ?.

Hopefully this futuristic black market won’t be that place deep in Ho Chi Minh dealing with double brewed potato vodka, shoe laces, razors and venereal diseases where easily you get snuff footage instead of an installer.

And sorry for the bad ass of the quote... a black market model.

It's very simple to follow the happening and then predict the future
when you know the history of mankind...
History tends to repeat itself, and that phrase is right.
The same happened during prohibition,
not that I wanna compare alcohol with software.
I just like to point out the similarities.

@fraggle83:

In case you don't know, in Spain we DO complain when we don't like what's happening. Recently, MILLIONS of people got on the streets of the main spanish cities for WEEKS claiming for a REAL change.. In fact, this inspired other similar movements all around Europe. So don't say we do nothing at all. Actually, this was a historical thing and it looks like there will some kind of continuity. What happens, either here in Spain or/and in the rest of the world, is that governments and people in charge of ruling countries DON'T LISTEN and DON'T actually care about what plain people wants or needs. The conclusion is: "el poder corrompe" or "having the power makes people selfish".

Best wishes to *ALL* from Barcelona!
