i'm not sure but all these 'attacks' closing Filesonic and etc , it seems a kind of reaction after hackers attacked FBI and other sites to protest againts SOPA and Megaupload..

anyway, we all have to start to think about a solution

'torrents' maybe?

Yes, torrents should work for a long time again...

Which one are from East Europe ? Maybe we should upload the maximum data we can on those ones, in order to "save" all this content we have on Audioz and on our personal computers ?

1st - They're not targeting the people using this site specifically. They're mainly going after people that are uploading movies, tv shows, and music albums.

2nd - Many people get it. The MAIN REASON they're going after these sites is specifically because they were making money off of it. Take money out of the equation, and you'll see less oversight. The people that make money uploading things will either have to actually join the community, or will have to make their money elsewhere.

there was filesharing before filesonic existed.
there was filesharing before megaupload existed.
there was filesharing before fileserve existed.
there was filesharing before uploaded.to existed.
there was filesharing before any of the uploaders at audioz shared a single file.

I could go on, but you should get the idea.
These uploader revenue-producing models might fall by the wayside for a period of time, as they are truly a big part of the current problem. The corporations get good and pissed off when someone other than them earns money off of something, especially when its something that they own in the first place. But people will figure out some new approach, and that approach will work for a period of time, until that gets cut off, too.

I look back at over 10 years of filesharing, and it's pretty much always been the same routine. For six months to a year a certain system works, then it abruptly ends, only to be replaced by some new method of going about this. Sometimes its a popular site that closes down, at other times its been the software used to share files, now its filehosting services. It always continues, it just involves change and adapting to those changes.

Audioz should be able to survive it, though a willingness to grasp and adapt to change is key to that survival. Saint seems like a very bright, thoughtful guy, who has shown a real ability to keep a site alive and thriving. I have faith he will figure out a method to keep things up and running.

People should just keep calm and at least try to accept the possibility that there may be some down time in terms of how actively things are shared. That doesn't mean the site should disappear. It just means there might not be as much activity as there has generally been for a period of time. But after that period, things will continue as they have, maybe with some modifications in the approach. I'm confident in that, because that's how it's been for a long time now, and no amount of adversity has been able to change that.

Remember, they can kill a company, a website, a filehosting service. BUT THEY CAN'T KILL YOUR SPIRIT OR AN IDEA. Those things just go on.

if that was true they wouldnt need to have this kind of legislation...just forbid online storage websites to pay back their uploader ...and that'd be the end...but it's not what they want.

That's not exactly what I meant. The owners of the websites (MegaUpload, Filesonic, etc.) were making money off of piracy, not just the uploaders. The owners were making millions of dollars off of it. Perhaps that was part of their business model, paying money to attract people to store files, knowing that "legitimate" people wouldn't be using their site to make money.

The legislation (SOPA/PIPA) had nothing to do with these sites going down. They were breaking laws that are older than just about everyone here.

Stealing is not free speech. Get over yourself. At least have the courage to admit what we're doing is wrong, and be annoyed that an avenue that made it easy (which will be replaced) is gone. Yes, these websites had legitimate uses, but for the most part, their main userbase was engaged in illegal activity. Just like guns. They're designed and made to kill, but you can use them for target practice. Just don't try to pretend that people are using them wrong.

I cannot find the difference between the previously service offered and the present service that can only be used to upload and retrieve files uploaded personally...

The main point is user can upload file not larger than 5GB and it generates links then the others can download from it, right?

No. With Filesonic, you can only access your own files, you don't have access to files that were uploaded by anyone else.

You know or even remember what happened during the prohibition Era in the USA? Well, black market and smuggling raised. So it will happen soon with file sharing! Don't worry, people are very creative and much smarter than any authority.

For private sharing there are hosts like Dropbox etc.

The owners were making millions of dollars off of it. Perhaps that was part of their business model, paying money to attract people to store files, knowing that "legitimate" people wouldn't be using their site to make money. And also it doesnt really make any sense..there arent that many good movies / tunes / software out there to justify subscribing only to download illegal material.

The legislation (SOPA/PIPA) had nothing to do with these sites going down. They were breaking laws that are older than just about everyone here.

yep but first that remains to be proven...besides they allegedly profited from it..and this holds some water only if you consider that whoever downloads something illegal is a potential customer...which is far from being the case!....unless they openly paid guys to upload illegal stuff which in return became some sort of an incentive for some users (that would mean at least 50% of their "customers" here!) to subscribe and get an account so as to download faster...but I guess out of the 50 millions hits they boasted to have every day... most were free downloads..that is traffic generating no or very little money...

as for SOPA/PIPA I know very wellit has nothing to do with it...it's not even been passed! ^^

The difference is that in the prohibition era, something that was once *completely* legal was made illegal. Piracy was always illegal, and always underground. The problems come when it becomes too "above" ground. People are too concerned with making money or making/keeping a reputation, and they're the ones that get busted. I've enjoyed the "scene" for 20 years now because of anonymity.
