In 1965, Smokey and Claudette Robinson, Pete Moore, Bobby Rogers, Marv Tarplin, and Ronnie White, A.K.A. “The Miracles” walked into Hitsville USA (Studio A) to record “Tracks of My Tears,” which would become ranked as Rolling Stones’ “Greatest Motown Song of All Time.”

When our good friends at Universal Audio set out to recreate that classic Motown sound via the Hitsville EQ Collection and Reverb Chambers, they tapped Producer/Engineer Fab Dupont to produce the project. Fab called the incredible multi-instrumentalist, Louis Cato, to sing one of Motown’s most immense treasures.

During the last few years, I developed a VST plugin to show my students how a delay line can be tweaked to act as a mod fx, a pitch shifter, a synthesizer, and other things. With time I found myself using it in many “real world” scenarios, so I decided to release it.

This pack explores the simple beauty of using resonating filters, feedback from tape echoes, and noises, as sources for an oscillator.  Each synthesizer’s filter imparts its’ own unique character, as do the noises generating from feedback echoes.  No oscillators where used — only resonating filter feedback was used to create these instruments.  White noise was introduced into the filters signal path to create further instability.

The Codex Buranus, compiled, in all likelihood, in South Tyrol in the first half of the thirteenth century, has fascinated modern scholars and performers ever since its rediscovery in 1803. Its diverse range of texts (some famously featuring in Carl Orff's Carmina Burana) and music gives testimony to the intensely vibrant, plurilingual, and multicultural milieu in which the Codex Buranus was compiled, but poses a challenge to modern users. Perhaps more so than many other medieval manuscripts, it is an artefact which demands, and benefits from, an interdisciplinary approach.
