Yes, this is absolutely ridiculous ! A "G" chord without a G ! Anyhow "Gmaj7 11" is not the kind of chord that one can find often, to say the least, LOL ! The chord displayed is a D7 with a 13th.
It's a basic structure of a D7 chord and one can also see a B minor triad on the top. The course is crap, obvious. Just brings confusion to people that do not know about chord construction, it is a shame to make confused people who are willing to learn.

It is a rootless chord, so don't play the root note, ie the G.

of course, the same way C major is just a rootless A minor, which is actually F major rootless, which is actually D minor rootless, which is actually a rootless B dim, which is actually G major rootless, which is actually a rootless E minor that, at last, is the true C major.
