Recordings are now the primary way we hear classical music, especially the more abstract styles of “absolute” instrumental music. In this original, provocative book, Arved Ashby argues that recording technology has transformed our understanding of art music. Contesting the laments of nostalgic critics, Ashby sees recordings as socially progressive and instruments of a musical vernacular, but also finds that recording and absolute music actually involve similar notions of removing sound from context. He takes stock of technology's impact on classical music, addressing the questions at the heart of the issue. This erudite yet concise study reveals how mechanical reproduction has transformed classical musical culture and the very act of listening, breaking down aesthetic and generational barriers and mixing classical music into the soundtrack of everyday life.
Extract RAR5 archives

The majority of unpackers do not support the new RAR5 format. You will receive an error message when you try to open it, and there is usually no way to integrate it manually into the application to add support for it.

So, the only feasible option right now is to install Winrar 5.x on your system if you want to use a graphical user interface. Note that this is a trial version, and while it won't stop working after the trial runs out, it will nag you to upgrade the software.

It is good to remember that when the author uses the term Absolute Music, he refers to the German philosopher 'Immanuel Kant 1724-1804, regarded as the leading philosopher of the modern age and who influenced the whole of the eighteenth century throughout Europe, and changed everything the musical thought throughout the nineteenth century.

When 'Kant' mentioned 'pure music' , he mean the music as it comes to the world, without text to explain it or sing together, that is, instrumental music, which since then predominates in instrumental jazz, cinema, theater.
Wagner only searched for a new synonym, then in 1846 found 'Absolute Music', or a variation of kant's pure music, book that he read a lot, in the same language he spoke.

For those who do not know, the whole opera has very little text, and works according to the music and not the other way, that is, a lot of pure music and also for the text to lie on it.
