Bitwig Studio v4.3 [WiN macOS LiNUX]-FLARE screenshot
Team FLARE | 29 June 2022 | WiN: 288 MB | macOS: 378 MB | LiNUX: 277 MB
RELEASE NUMBER: FLARE-1837/FLARE-1838/FLARE-1839

Bitwig Studio 1 was hello, world! Version 2 brought program-wide modulators and CV integration. Version 3 saw the birth of The Grid, our modular sound-design environment. And for version 4, new musical timelines have arrived.

This means comping for audio clips, both in the Clip Launcher and the Arranger. A new set of Operators, for changing the chance, recurrence, and more of any note or audio event. Random Spread for any expression point (like per-note pitch, or audio panning) with perfect control. And Native Apple Silicon support on Mac, even allowing Intel and ARM plug-ins to work side-by-side.

Welcome to Bitwig Studio 4.

What's new in 4.3

Your Sound is Going Spaces
Our new device, Convolution, can take any sound anywhere — even places that don't exist. All convolutions imprint your sound with an “impulse,” and ours comes ready-made with 270 of them, ranging from 12th-century cathedrals and legendary studio effects to more abstract “environments.” Using the impulse of a room or hall creates a realistic reverb, but Bitwig's Convolution and content offers so much more.

Fashionably Late
Delay+ is Bitwig's latest boutique audio effect. By balancing familiar controls along with a few thoughtful new ones, Delay+ can either add a little character or fully transform your sound as it ping-pongs along.

The New Face of Polymer
Polymer and The Grid use the same modules, so when something new comes along, everybody wins. For Bitwig 4.3, some analog-inspired goodies have arrived.

Two modules are new. Union is an oscillator that plays it straight, blending three waveshapes into one pleasant, drifting output. And for filtering, Low-pass MG honors Mister Moog by imitating both his classic filter and mix buss.

Topping Off
As always, a few more new features came along for the ride. For example, FX tracks now have sends of their own. And yes, direct feedback routings are available — and clearly labeled (Achtung!). And the ADSR module gets a lot of use, so why not add a “bias” out port for a bipolar signal that centers around sustain? Good for pitch or anything that might want a little drift.

Whether it is recording settings, lyrics, or performance notes, comments can be freely added to tracks, layers, Arranger cue markers, and Launcher scenes — just start writing in your language. And by distributing our Linux build over Flatpak and supporting PipeWire, many distros will have a smoother experience with Bitwig, including Ubuntu users. And maybe even Steam Decks?…

Bitwig Studio 4.3 supports the CLAP plug-in standard.

How loud is the timebomb noise ? Is it full scale noise dangerous to speakers that are directly behind the D/A ?
I just have 1 pair of shoes but I have 11 analog synths.

very loud, you do not press play on old projects, just copy over all tracks to a new project and save.

When I open the projects of the previous version, strange beeping sounds are heard, I am really sad, I really hoped that there would be no problem, but this is not the case, all my friends agreed with me and they also hear the beeping sound, please fix the version Publish it, I really need this

I'm risking of sounding like an complete douchebag, especially considering I'm writing this on this board, but, renting to owning this via Splice is worth it, just not to have this kind of problems, it's affordable, after you payed it off, you get another year of free updates, you can stop and continue any time, in case you don't have time for music, than continue when you do.

The beep sound can be heard in all versions of Windows, Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows 7

Just create a new project with v.4.3. - Copy old project into the new project file.

This fixed the issue for me.

On your computer, I use Windows 11 Pro and version 4.3 works great, no sound at all, previous v4.2 projects load perfectly and save absolutely fine. Change your computer or buy the $299 version is on sale until the end of the month.

Thank you so much FLARE for macOS and especially Linux!

I'm in the process of switching from hackintosh to Void Linux - everything works great. And well done to Bitwig for adding a PipeWire backend.

So, until FLARE fixes this with a v4.3 (Fixed!) re-release to fix the timebomb for both Apple and Windows systems, since at this point we know that it affects both platforms, this is just a glorified demo of Bitwig v4.3 and not a real release.

Bear that in mind, before you download.

Note: It has nothing to do with forgetting to disable your Internet connection, before, during, after, (instead of!), your installation.

Exactly, guys from Bitwig are close to U-He guys, this is their kind of protection, it really doesn't rely on home calling, this will time bomb offline too.

this is the case wit hall bitwig releases, you have to work arround this by creating new projects and copy the tracks over and save without ever playing the old projects.

Thanks FLARE!

Two random weird things versus my previous v4 version (on Windows 10):

1) When I start, it says "No updates available".
2) FIXED, NEVERMIND THIS ONE: <fixed> The transport starts Playing immediately when I open Bitwig. </fixed>

These are obviously not deal breakers, they're just a bit annoying and didn't happen before. Didn't see any setting related to e.g. "don't check for updates."

.EXE is blocked in firewall.

I have the same problem as you, the update alarm won't stop, and it won't show the dashboard login time, even though I selected the settings to start with the dashboard, I'm still waiting for the fix, I hope all the problems that our friends reported here will be fixed. be resolved

I've used this version for over 50 hours now (Win11, AMD, ASIO) and everything works just perfectly! I can download packs, I can use noteFX, there is no timebomb sound and best of all it's just super stable and uses up much less resources than Ableton. Also midi clock over USB is waaaay better than in Ableton. I use a lot of external hardware Synths and the Ableton clock was absolutely unusable for me. Thanks for this release!!!

so many linux users like me, are not willing to use flatpak files even if it seems to be a common trend for any linux distros lately !

Strangely enough the beeping also appears after a while in bwproject files which are created from scratch in v4.3. This often comes with a crashing audio engine... rather weird (macOS 12.4). Fortunately opening a new file and copy/paste the content of the erroneous file is a simple workaround for the issue. I'm still very grateful for FLARE's work!!
Who you jivin' with that Cosmik Debris? 🥸

Bitwig keeps crashing when importing Ableton projects on Windows 10 21H1, smooth ride on Windows 8.1, dunno about you guys, but I find Windows 10 quite dodgy, wallpaper suddenly went black, it keeps crashing explorer, it's fresh install, installed bare essentials, same thing on 8.1 is rock solid, maybe my machine isn't really cut out for Windows 10. Maybe some of your problems have roots in there too. Not talking about beeping, I'm using legit version and whole system behaves flaky.

Getting weird "Null character found in binary string" when I try to open recently saved projects. - Worked so far with v.4.3.2 the last days but for some odd reason it's not usable anymore or let's say can't safely save projects anymore.

What are other people's experience of this version from Flare? I really appreciate their effort and don't want to sound like an ungrateful dick but my experience hasn't been great. It worked for a while during which time I got all the downloads and then after 2 or 3 weeks working ok I got the beeps. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, blocking the app from the internet. No beeps but it is a bit crashy. Bitwig has always been sooo stable but no so this version. Several crashes of the audio engine. Also the BFD3 downloads repeatedly crash under this version. Loading the previous 4.08 version BFD3 works without flaw so I must assume the issue is with Bitwig itself. It could be my system but I think not as I am 'the guy' all my friends turn to to fix their computers. I'm no newbie (understatement). Back on version 4.08 now until we get a new cracked version (maybe from R2R or VR hopefully).

Certainly NOT complaining but wondered what other people's experience has been like?
