there is hope that Helix will also arrive for another OS?
It's a bit sad that much of the recent software comes just for win ...

quote by Guitarmaniac64There are tons of videos on youtube that shows that Helix is up there with AXE FX and Kemper soundwise.

Soundwise is one thing, playwise is another. You can achieve decent and convincing mixing quality tones with most amp sims out there...Playing is a different thing altogether, though.

Anyway, I suspect that both Kemper and Axe FX are only quoted as the best amp sims out there because of their hardware psychological bias, meaning that people think they are so much better than anything else because they are attached to expensive hardware...And people always defend their purchase decisions, proportionally to their price tags...The same goes for UAD.

Releasing Helix as software was a marketing mistake. It took away the hardware magic factor. Now everybody can see for themselves how an expensive piece of gear is nothing but a fancy package for an average piece of software...And unless the hardware is actually doing something to the sound itself, like using tubes/transistors/diodes/etc to impart analogue tonal characteristics, then there's all there is to it: an outboard processor for software. Nothing magical about it.

No not really you see i have used plugin ampsims for ages way over 10 years and of course loooong before i bought Helix

And i have tried so many different audiointerfaces DI whatever shit you could mention to get those to sound and more important FEEL like a real amp and never succeded

Helix hardware does FEEL like a real amp i dont know how the software feels though but it sounds equally great.
However Native was released with the target of hardware users so they could use Helix both live and in their homstudio build presets at home and load it later to the hardware also it makes recording lot quicker with helix i don't think they had people who sit at home making music on a computer and never play a chord have rarely ever played on a real amp (hence all those this sound bla bla when in fact it is soooo close to how a REAL amp sound not like how a polished mixed upmiced amp sounds) on a guitar instead they use samples and midi .

So for hardware user it was a very clever release.

We should make a thread in AS about these hard/soft amp simulators.

I've been myself digging into the subject (procrastination god mode) and discovered very interesting things.
[2009] Sorry for my English. I'm working on it

Done it an hour ago.

127.0.0.1. line6.com
0.0.0.0 line6.com

I also made the Purchases.dat file Read-only ( its in the AppData/Roaming/Line 6/Helix Native
not sure if necessary though, but the file contains the license and seemed to get corrupted after an hour.

I'll report if it fails :)

First up, I own a Kemper and it definately sounds different to a PC based amp sim. The moment I plug in the jack the guitar comes alive, just the handling of the guitar is fed back through the pickups, and the latency is better. Soundwise, to my ears it is more dynamic. I didn't believe it until I tried it, but it's definitely more fun to play. The Kemper is also a closed system, so everything is optimised from the input to the output.

Maybe my audio interface is the difference? Perhaps it's Windows OS? Or could it be the fact that the Kemper takes a snapshot of an amp, as opposed to being an algorithmic model? Who knows ..

Regarding the Helix, forget about the presets. I've still got the demo installed, and you have to optimise the software to your guitar and audio interface. If you do this it will start to sound really good.

So what is a man supposed to do? I would love to get rid of my Kemper and Fractal FX8, but I won't be doing it just yet as it's too much fun. However I do believe that one day these hardware units will become obsolete, as computers get better at handling realtime applications.

It's not the computers realtime handling of the modelers functions but better algorithms and improvements in the utils (JUCE) etc... that will improve things. It is only a matter of time and it is rapidly approaching. :)

found this link on other tracker(where the VR dude appears to hangout), he posted it himself. It says its 1.0.1 and probably contains a fixed crack. I'm trying it right now
PS V1.0.0 is crashing to server constantly here. I'll let you know how 1.0.1 goes

While your link is very welcome, you have to know that every direct link that's posted into AudioZ put our site in danger, so please it is very important that you use peeplink.
Don't post links directly here.
I've corrected your comment and added peeplink and mirror tag.

Me as a person that was always against amp sims and have used real amps all the time, this time this software just sounds and feels very good! I just tried rhythm guitar though.

@ Metaller >>> 100% agree other amp sims are pretty good but i like the feel and sound of this Line6 much better its pretty stellar >>>> anyone using this Remember to Gain stage the input to get the best feel>>> if you overload the input to much just like any analogue gear you will smash the Dynamics from the start :) >>> even Line6 suggests keeping input between -36 and -18 >>> then ajust the gain of the amp and output from the plugin >>>You will then feel and hear the Difference \m/

Not so impressive, incomplete crack........ my (personal) impression is that maybe it's better to concentrate on something else......and nothing will ever substitute good analog hw
