XILS-lab Synthix v1.0.1 screenshot
XILS-lab Synthix v1.0.1
AiR | Dec 2011 | 8.57 MB

The Synthix is inspired by a famous and legendary Synthesizer from the 80's, which a lot of talented guys used as their central Keyboard, including some synths Gurus.

Compatibility:

(WIN) VST,RTAS 32bit

The Synthix is a virtual 16 voices analog synthesizer and as it, brings
what we can call now standard analog features :

Two oscillators with 4 selectable waveforms, Triangle, Saw, Square, Pulse
and its dedicated PWM and Ring modulator mode. Additionally, the Triangle
and Sawtooth waveforms do have PWM modes. Several waveforms can be
selected simultaneously for each of the oscillators.

One multimode filter based on the CEM 3320 chip emulation, providing Self
oscillating 12 dB and 24 dB low pass, 6 and 12 dB band pass, and 12 dB
high pass modes.

Four D-ADSR : an enhanced standard ADSR envelope with a MIDI syncable
delay.

Four LFOs, including two neverseen LFOS types.

Four embedded effects : Delay, Chorus, Phaser, Dual EQs

One Multi-track sequencer

Several playing modes including A la Moog mono modes and several
Polyphonic modes

The Synthix, has every XILS-lab products, brings also some never seen
features :

The Chaox : an LFO based on fully calculated chaotics functions. real life
enters in synthesizers

The Rythm : an LFO with uses the Rythm for its main purpose.

Guitar modes, Circular and random polyphonic modes

And last but not least, The Synthix is multi-layer and has a polytimbral
mode:

8 totaly independant layers (each layer can have its own set of
oscillators, filters, envelopes, glide and lfos, with independent
settings).

Thanks Funtime! I think this program is buggy from factory, it was premature from the developer to put this crap out (should have been beta testing or something like that). Worst of all, it comes with a price tag of 169 euros (with choice of Elicenser or Ilok fees included). But it sounds so good that I can't resist. So guys, I'll keep your wise suggestions in mind when I install it. yes

This really, really needs to be fixed. I'm sorry, but positive reviews these days for soft synths are really a dime a dozen. What makes a synth a keeper is that it's truly usable, that it doesn't ANNOY you when you're trying to get stuff done.

I really hope xils lab gets behind this and makes good. Otherwise, I'm going to have sell my (just bought) copy. The competition these days is just too strong to settle for products that aren't up to snuff. This, in its current state, clearly is not.

I just bought Diva, and it's unbelievable. I'm getting none of these kinds of issues, and the sound is thrillingly good. Costs a lot in terms of CPU, but it sounds phenomenal! No annoyances at all so far, and is very easy to program.

Xils Lab: please step up and actually finish Synthix. This is not a finished product in its current form, sadly. There is no WAY jerky, sluggish knobs should have made it into a 1.0 release. I for one am very disappointed!

Xavier-from Xils:

Hi,

There is a problem regarding the GUI (very slow when browsing the presets, some time very slow knob movements) on some computers running windows7.

As I'm currently working on the last x64 things for the Synthix, I will have a look and fix this (I hope during the next following days)

@Selfik : the crash is fixed (available on the incoming new version)

So more new to come soon !

Best regards
Xavier

----------------------
Did you notice the sentence from XiLS = there is a problem! It seems like the GUI and the knobs when browsing the presets are causing most of the crushes, freezes and hang, though there might be some other problems involved. So changing presets and DLL's from different versions won't solve the problem (the only hope left is to wait for the new update). I don't think this poor guy (Dr. Washington) is gonna get his money back (169 euros = 185 dollars) from Shyntix. As far as trying to sell it, not even a moron will pay 50% of its value. Even the people from XILS (a French company) recognize that Shyntix has problems (Guess what? they still fixing errors while charging 169 euros for it - (he he) the guys that bought it will help Xils get rid of the bugs). Around June of this year, XILS-lab promised to the participants of the group buy to come with version 1.0 as soon as possible, where all minor bugs will be ironed out. Of course, these never happened. As of December 2011, version 1.0.1 is out and they still looking for ways to chase the "major" bugs out of Synthix. So, it is unfair to put the whole blame on Air for this ordeal (whatever is left of this Team after its entrails were taken out). Even AIR warns (read their note above) "take it or leave it," sending a coded message that Shyntix is a time bomb with problems. One thing I know, the original Team Air (that took pride on its releases) would never have touched this crappy stuff - even with a ten foot poll!!! dunno Cheers!
I got peace not of this world!

Captain_Future,

Installed the demo version, copied all presets from the demo to AiR's release. Result: Total VSTi crash. Works when adding the VST in Cubase 5. As soon as opening the GUI, total freeze and hang... Had to reinstall to get it working again.

Interesting.

Thanks for checking.

Any chance you could upload those Demo presets to a filehost so i can take a gander myself?

Im practically certain now that its just the presets that are at fault here because i just fixed one of the 'bad' ones so it would no longer cause the issue...

(Removed - See my next post.)

Captain_Future,

Sure, here are they! Actually, they're the same because the file change date was always the same, for every file. Don't know why it crashed the VSTi though...

http://www.sendspace.com/file/0c3pz8

I have a small guess of what caused Synthix to crash when I copied the demo presets to AiR's release. There's a folder called "Sequencer" and AiR said that there's some kind of a problem with it. So that might be the cause for the crash...
  Resident 19.08.2011 166

Alright, i know now what the problem is.

(The presets are at fault only indirectly. Some of them are just causing the issue to surface since they access / enable that param.)

The thing thats actually causing the problems is the routing of LFO1 to OSC2. (The 'O.2' button below 'Waveform' on the LFO1 tab.) If a preset contains that param with values other than zero, and you load that preset, it will screw up the synths proper function. If you remove 'LFO1_OSC2_FREQ#0#<value>#!' from an affected preset (the .prt file) it will work OK afterwards. (There are 8 such entries (0-7) but removing only the first one seems to suffice.)

If a preset does not contain that param, (or all values are saved as zero), and you activate the O.2 button on LFO1 manually, it will screw up the synths proper function as well. LFO can be turned down again to get rid of the OSC modulation but there seems to be no way of getting the right channel back once its gone. (Typical 'overload plop' so its not surprising. Its the same with other plugs too.)

The rest appears to be working normally. In case i find anything else worth mentioning i will add it...

EDIT: After playing around with it some more my conclusion is that this thing sucks. Hate the sound, hate the concept, hate the layout, hate the sluggish GUI...therefore i will not further check it for bugs / problems and how to solve them. Will stick to my KORGs and FM7 etc...they never let me down...

Captain_Future,

Great info! Now if we only would know where these affected presets are to be found in the *.prt files we could correct them because they don't have names in the filename but digits only... I'm not really going to look through 252(0-251) presets to find all the affected ones you listed...

Very very buggy. Is it an after effect of the crack or the product itself ?
1 --> you WANT to put a limiter on the channel you are loading the synthix on. REALLY
There are nasty spikes, each time you change a preset. These can kill the audio of your interface, or one of it's channels.

2--> many preset are plagged with a LFO modulating the pitch of an osc. No way to turn that off.

3--> the more time you spent, the mor tha audio gets wild unpredictible and weird.
Any pad will look like it is out of a 50's sci fi film (which is OK in its onwn right provided you want that !)

Sometimes, no matter what you do, you can't get a simple 'play the darn pitch of the key you idiot' programm...

But thanks anyway for the work done here...

Yeah...very funny indeed...

BTW: The author just confirmed what i was thinking all along: The Mute and Solo buttons dont even work. They worked in 1.0 and were broken in 1.0.1...good job releasing the crap like that...

PS: malhomme: Read any posts lately?

The original synthex from elka -where this shit its based upon- was an analog synth with digital oscilators so when all other analog synths of that time were going out of tune, this was the only one that stayed tuned from the beginning 'till the end of the session. Now 20 years after we get some crappy bad coded and untested analog emulator that can't stay in tune no mater what. Those guys are asking for $$$? Are they serious?
Air rules, always!

This thing is not even worth carrying the name of Synthix. I don't know what they were thinking when they said it's an Elka Synthex emulation. It's nothing of the sort. One of the most disappointing emus, I have seen.
Without faith nothing is possible. With it, nothing is impossible.

All I'm crossing my fingers for this year are:
-A working cracked version of Line 6 Pod Farm 2.5 (Team VR's was really buggy)
-Nexus 2.2.1
I don't even care about Cubase 6 or Waves x64, just those two and I would be SET!

Pod Farm took me by surprise, I thought I would never look at another post production suite after Amplitube 3 but BOY WAS I WRONG when I decided to give Pod Farm a shot. Try it out yourselves and you will understand why it's so high on the list.

Did you check the demo version?

The problems (weird oscillator modulation) DO NOT happen with the demo version.

This is IMHO a hidden protection check that AiR missed.

Seems to happen with Mac version (UNPACED), too...

EDIT:

AiR missed a hidden protection check in Synthix. Modulation bug does NOT appear in demo. Tested it several times, I am sure of it...

Try for yourself - load Paul Wiffen Jan Hammer preset, switch to preset Baroque and Dirty, then back to jan Hammer - bug. But not in the demo, working good there.

EDIT 2:

More hidden protections, Suddenly the right channel disappears. NOT in Demo.

EDIT 3:

Crackle on Oscillator LFO 1 + 2, not working properly does also not appear in Demo.

funny that some members here really think that those "bugs" appear in the legal version to. :D

Xils-Lab is a great company. Top-Notch Stuff.I bought the Poly Player for example. It's great shit worth every penny. So bashing a Company for nothing is okay for you?

And what they are completely unaware of is the fact that crackers don't crack for US but for THEM.

yep, thats the reason i dont mention them. it isn't simply the point: you cant bash AiR. but here are so many lamerz.. (lamer = claim to know sumthing but suck = idiot not to be mistaken with newbie = want to know sumthing = nice person). it would take ages to correct all the stupidity found here. save your energy Lord Gaga.. :D
