Well done, RET!!!

But I think the home page for this product in this post refers to the hardware module [The word "plug" is not mentioned in that page].

I guess the proper link for this plug-in version is:

https://store.solidstatelogic.com/products/ssl-lmc

In this page, "plug" is clearly mentioned.

Can anyone here confirm?

this is like a parallel compression with saturation, so nothing special that you can't do with other plugins

It's nice to see plugins that runs more smoothly than the original from the developer's site.

The past slate stuff is more usable without all the bloatware that the legit version has with their protection system. I tested it.

SSL's plugins are better coded and more stable in legit version, i will test this out to see how it differs :)

Indeed that is the truth/you are spot on. Technically speaking the compressor that is found in the 4000 series listen mic circuit (a reverse wired talkback patch IIRC) is a really cheap and nasty/junk one for use as a quality wideband dynamic range compressor but due to all of its flaws/low quality that is why it was utilized by Hugh Padgham, Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins first to some extent on Gabriel's 3rd solo album with Phil Collins, of course, being the drummer Gabriel opted to use for that album, being former band members & friends it makes a lot of sense plus to be fair back in his day Collins was a quality drummer/very talented multi-instrumentalist that guy.
The tracking and mixing sessions for the two albums that started and set the standard for the "gated reverb" drum sound I think we're quite lengthy/indulgent as those two could afford them to be after such success with Genesis, back when record labels were essential with advances and whatnot being normal, both I'd expect would've been given very healthy advances.
I do find it amusing somewhat that it is known as "gated reverb" despite it featuring neither a reverb processor nor a noise gate which is the way in which pretty much every hardware reverb and so many a software reverb offer such presets, it's just a room mic in the spacious live room capturing the kit, and that mic's signal is turned up and the fader is ridden through the mix a lot higher than it would typically have been and all importantly that signal is fed very hot going into the 4000's listen mic circuit in order to force that really quite cheap, nasty compression circuit which was only intended to ever be used for communication between engineer and musician to work extremely hard which is how it delivers that now legendary and instantly recognizable "gated reverb" effect on the drum sound.

Obviously the album and even more so the track which is the standard issue/gold standard/reference for the "gated reverb" drum sound is Collins' solo album Face Value, In The Air Tonight" the track, again like the Peter Gabriel album, it was Hugh Padgem in the control room, Phil Collins behind the drumkit plus he utilized the now-classic Roland CR-78 on the album along with being on many other additional duties since it was his album this time, the recording studio for the two was Richard Branson's The Town House studio IIRC which at the time was a few years old and state of the art for its day.
IIRC both those albums were released the same year too.

So that is the who, why, when, where and how the so-called "gated reverb drum sound" was created.

I'm not saying the "gated reverb" effect or the SSL 4000 series LMC compressor is junk or rubbish in practice at all, merely from a technical standpoint and without the context of the sound, like many isolated sounds actually, just does not sound at all so big and OTT as it does with the full drumkit mix playing at the same time plus the rest of the mix as a whole.

It certainly does work great for some people and the style/sound they are going for from good to great effect, I'd never dispute that.

It is also very much in the spirit of the one and only legend that was Joe Meek and his simple yet perfect statement regarding music/audio that will forever hold true:
"If it sounds right then it is right."

I personally have and will continue to always try feeding signal of whatever through any piece of gear, in particular not any of my nice collection of outboard processors and effects that I've built up over the years and are all rack-mounted, ready to go so easily via my patch bay but rather using a handful of re-amp boxes, these are not solely for re-amping guitar or bass signals but doing the same with any signal.

Often times there will not be any mic'd up amp head and extension cab or combo but rather the signal are going into any number of stompbox pedals, its very hit and miss, however, when the result works well then going through what some may see as an obscene amount of pedals and the effort in order to just find maybe a handful of useful sounds that are worthy of utilizing in the context of the mix, those signals are recorded straight back Into the box, to me it is worth the time. In order to be able to quickly use the same chain or chains again, I simply take down notes along with taking photographs of what was used on what source signals, for what reason(s) and a rough description of the results.

There are so many options nowadays both hardware and software, including some freeware options which are every bit as good as much of the commercial software, Personally, if I'm in doubt when depending on my monitoring options when trying any plugin out which is claimed to be something unique/special then I'll simply open up DocuDead's Plug-in doctor which is a superb toolkit for informing one what is and often times what is not going on.

Still, regardless of anything else that Joe Meek quote "if it sounds right then it is right" is and always will be the only "rule" that I abide by, I trust my monitoring setup, therefore, I'm not having to investigate many plugins via the good plug-in doctor. of course with anything YMMV!

All the best your way Reiner, MLM and the same sentiments to everyone else too, cheers!

Typo error about version (both RET & DECiBELLE).
Right version is 1.0.11 (not 1.0.0.11).
