Pulsar Audio Smasher v1.0.2-R2R screenshot
DATE : 2020.02.20 | NUMBER : R2R-8815 | SiZE : 30.48 MB
PLATFORM : WiN32/64 - VST/VST3/AAX(MODiFiED)

Smasher is an unprecedented custom modification of the classic Urei 1176 compressor circuit, a unique formula that we stumbled upon while fine-tuning other algorithms.

The original 1176 compressor hardware offered a selection of four ratios, but studio engineers soon discovered that pressing them all at once led to a distorted, explosive and highly compressed sound. It’s this “All buttons in” or “British” mode that Smasher was painstakingly designed to recreate.

While remaining very close to the original circuitry, the modifications we’ve built into Smasher will add definition to transients and make your tone more aggressive. We love using it to enhance the ambience in drum busses, but there are many more creative uses too. Smasher won’t work on every single track, but where it does, it works magic.

Smasher excels at raw and gritty sounds, calling to mind bands like Vulfpeck, The Whitefield Brothers and The Black Keys.

Hmmm... Not happening with legit version

I grabbed it from official website, registered on my iLok account and using since then. No problems.

Perhaps R2R should do a 'fix' on this one

Hi all,
Our products are cheap, please buy them if you want to support us.
R2R team, please check a little bit more before releasing a purely unwrapped binary, this release is timebombed, as will be all our future releases.

Cheers,

Pulsar Team.

AFAIC, I installed it yesterday, played a bit with it, saw the consistant HUGE CPU load - on just 1 track - and removed it.

consistant HUGE CPU load

This has been discussed here, CPU is 100% normal in the legit version

You have not a damn thing to do with Pulsar. And "vinxz" is but another a fake account that represents one more split in a broken personality. If you want to impersonate along the lines of business and development, use terms that are indicative of the field you claim to represent. Speaking about the "product and license" might be better terms to use rather than making reference to it as the "release and legit version". It's a mistake you can correct, and it might better your potential to be more convincing the next time you try to bullshit.

And since you're so keen on what's been discussed here about the plugin and CPU draw.. there's only two people who made mention of it. The first one is complaining about the CPU draw of the "legit" version, and hoping this "release" would do better.

I can tell you on my end there was no difference in the CPU draw between the two. Neither one was heavy. People have different hardware, different configurations, and different experiences with software products in general. Variation with user experience is no different when it comes to this plugin. Users will have different experiences when it's time to pay for the plugin as well. Common sense is the only credential it takes to know this. Surely anyone with business, marketing, or development credentials wouldn't lack that common sense. When you say "CPU is 100% normal in the legit version" it's an obvious reference to your personal usage and not a broad range of customers. If you want to be a con man, get good at it.

@ dbMuzik

I fully agree with you for the CPU. Just finished checking the GUI importance, which is the heavy part, IMHO.

The 2 versions, original and R2R, behave exactly the same way. What " sucks " is the GUI who eats CPU - the same amount in both cases, identical - . Of course identical.

On my little laptop, that is 9 % per instance. With the process running but the GUI hidden, only 2% both versions, strictly identical.

So I loaded 10 instances, which leads to approx. 19 % load of CPU ( 4 on tracks 1 and 2 each, 2 in series on the master ). With the GUIs on screen, this jumps to ... around 87% !

I took a picture of the processes . Have a look. 19% - 20%, GUIs hidden , + 7% basis for Samplitude ( this time ).

Did I mention that I hate to have to run that iLok thing ?

I haven't tried comparing both as I instaled legit one before R2R dropped it, but I trust your tests :)

On the other side, implementing timebombs into "free" release is dirty and makes me turn off from buying anything from such developer.

DAW, that's a bummer to hear. The graphic demand is what's really taxing your CPU because your laptop's onboard graphics aren't one of the strong points. It's forcing you to steer clear of certain plugins you might otherwise want to use more often.

Our computers and processing power is the central point. We all want a workhorse, but don't have 6-7k laying around to do a custom build to our exact desire. I just spent 3k to build a new desktop computer after using the previous one I built 8 years ago. I felt pushed to do it because all the compatibility requirements changing. No choice but to buy a new CPU/motherboard/RAM/ to feel like I'm no longer window shopping for a thunderbolt interface. No choice but to upgrade from Windows 7 to 10 because Studio One is my preferred DAW.. just to be eligible to apply v4 updates, and eligible to use a potential v5. Technological advancements immediately fuel the rich's desire to leave everyone in the dust while the majority of us struggle to narrow the margin as much as we can.

First little test ( click on me ) ...

Sequoia / WIN10 x64 .
Everything aligned :
TRACK 1 [ORIGINAL VST] +
TRACK 2 [R2R REWORKED VST] ( = copy of wav audio TRACK 1 with inverted phase )
= nul output.

Took more time to " Photoshop " it .

Checking for loads ... ... but after some sleep . And now posted above .

Pulsar Audio Rep - Thank you for commenting here, but i believe R2R didnt check for bombs, because this is a free plugin (currently) and would never be suspected to be riddled with malware, bombs and other wastes of coding time.

They can of course fix it (i hope without more than the regular few days delay) and i think you should be aware they could defeat much much harder tasks... and this is a pointless game your playing, your just putting up barriers for your customers.

Do what audio damage do - simple serial, no internet server connection, no hidden bombs like Urs likes, no other dirty shit at all!

Just make good plugins and you will profit, of course if the plugins integrity is nothing special or unique at all - yes you should protect it with 1000 layers of protection and crypto - then there will be that mysterious uncracked vibe about your plugins and you will get a couple of purchases from rich snobs and stupid teens

also, PULASR can you please make the Bitmaps and images in the gui better and well compressed, there is a bunch of useless weight to them,
it seems you (and spectrasonics) dont give two shits about GUI efficiency

Ill take them plugin with no GUI, Airwindows style if it sounds good

But this just seems like another synthedit 1176 with gigantic high res bitmaps

Following the magnificent " Ode To A Tractor " by Peter Ilyitch Boroff ( Silk Stockings - Cyd Charisse / Fred Astaire - 1957 ), I really aimed to compose another one with that adapted tone bomb in it, " Ode To A Fire Engine ", but the frequency is too low...

I think wait for the fixed version to be released, maybe warn about this one being broken in the OP? Ditto Fire Master..
Thx to anybody posting Spitfire / OTB libs!
