Soundtheory Gullfoss v1.4.0-R2R screenshot

Team R2R | Sept 27 2019 | 21 MB
Gullfoss is an easy-to-use tool for everyone from the amateur musician to the professional mastering engineer. Its clean user interface offers a set of basic parameters that can be adjusted to improve the clarity, detail, spatiality, and balance of a mix or recording in a matter of seconds.

Take control
Gullfoss is an intelligent equalizer that listens to a signal and decides how to prepare the audio so that your brain can get the most information out of it. The realtime analysis of Gullfoss uses Soundtheory’s computational auditory perception model to understand which audible elements are competing for your attention. Gullfoss allows for quick and precise fixes that would otherwise be unsolvable or would require significant time and experience to resolve.

Gullfoss is even capable of fixing balancing issues between different sound elements without access to the individual tracks. The internal auditory model allows Gullfoss to make objective decisions about the perceived sound. As a result, mixes processed with Gullfoss will generally translate more consistently between different listening situations.

Gullfoss, enabled by new patent-pending equalizer technology, processes audio with unrivaled sound quality. The equalizer is capable of changing its frequency response more than 300 times per second and without introducing audible artifacts or degrading signal quality. Together with the highly advanced computational auditory perception model that has been developed by Soundtheory, Gullfoss is the first and only product of its kind.

* No iLok Driver is required to run.
* Our release loads faster and uses less memory than original.

yea Waves was late to the x64 party too but they always get there eventually. It will be like rediscovering them all over again. I think by the end of the year or maybe early 2020 waves will be resizable. maybe the same with Gullfoss. Everything else I use has been there for over a year except Ozone 8

It keeps surprising me with its consistently fresh and innovative ways to find a better sound solution than the existing one.

[By the way, all of this thanks flooding is against the rules.
What happened to the 'thanks' department?]

I would assume all of the "mac please" requests have annoyed the moderators so much that they'll gladly tolerate the positivity of "thanks" posts instead

Well, I decided to be flexible with gratitude. I see that members like to express it with more than one click.

Considering some of the rave reviews on here, I'll be curious to see what this plugin is all about. Thanks for the chance to give it a whirl, R2R & Horsemen.
(Also? I'm kinda shocked no has screamed "Snake Oil!!!" yet. )

This is far from snake oil, this is one of the best plugins hands down, it's one of the gems you keep as a secret weapon.

Really ?

But if everyone uses it, it's not a secret weapon anymore, it it ?

For the sake of curiosity, which Mastering plants that have become so cheap would you recommend against using this kind of plugins?
Cheers

It depends in which country you're located ? - as it's better to be " in situ " with the mastering engineer.
Let's say : $ 50 a track. Less than $ 1000 for an LP. It can be lower. Sad ( or good news, depends... ) For " us " or Mylène Farmer *, same price.

So even the " top guys " have to master one album per day. Making a living with it is not easy today.

Finally tested it on rehearsal recordings.
It's ok and useful for fast equing to make the sound clearer. But I would not use this on a final track.

I've used it on some close-to-final mixes and found it caught some muddiness and brought out some clarity in ways I had missed (or that my ears had gotten fatigued to from over-listening). I've yet to use it as a first-step and have only tried it as a last-step to see what it thinks of my mixing choices (I've thrown it on the master, submixes, individual tracks, etc). My opinion is that compared to the likes of iZotope Neutron, Gullfoss is a genius and Neutron is kind of riding the special bus. Sometimes. And the fact is that it's dynamic and doesn't just make a blanket shape and set of choices by interpreting 15 seconds of a 3+ minute song...

At the end of the day it's all about how you choose to use it. I think Gullfoss is an indispensable tool just as a 'second pair of ears/opinion' - to take its choices and manually build on yourself. I see stuff like Neutron the same way, I just found that Gullfoss made good decisions 8 or 9 times out of 10, and Neutron maybe 3 or 4 times out of 10.

You are right. But I dont use neutron, so I cant compare.
It's the first time I use an "intelligent" thing , usually i use my own set of plugins (Multiband compressor, EQ, and limiter) and take my own decisions.
I missed more control on the plugin, specially on the low end.
But for clarifying quickly a rehearsal or live recording it's OK.

I can barely hear any difference between the before/after examples?
Other than some slight EQuing I guess. I personally don't get what the excitement is about?
  Member 25.03.2015 1 118

It completely depends on the source. I've found it can be easily over-done to the point of making the audio terrible, and pushing it just as hard on something else might have very subtle results in comparison. The examples they provide are eye-rollingly subtle and not worth your time. Play with it yourself on your own audio and you'll understand what it's doing much quicker.

Damn... thanks to R2R for letting me take a spin on this one. The hype train was a mile long on this thing and of course I toss it on some things and it's just.... ok. It certainly made me realize I really don't care for this kind of functionality... Where you're sort of in the backseat with strange and unfamiliar controls trying to find something that works. Fiddling around basically. I can see its usefulness in some situations with really harsh material but it certainly doesn't achieve anything I couldn't already before. Matter of fact the Hornet 31 is a much more useful tool and essentially does that same damn thing for like 20 bucks. Gonna have to pass on this one... Try before you buy pulls through again.
