Cytomic The Drop 0.9.18 VST PATCHED screenshot
AudioZ Exclusive | Team V.R - based | 25.8 MB | 19-10-2015The Drop is an analog modeled resonant filter plug-in. It uses the same high quality algorithms used in circuit simulation packages but optimised for real time use.
Version 0.9.18 is the last known one with two extra filter models: "Sallen Key MS2" and "Cascade". They will be reintroduced at the some point, but why not enjoy them now?
There is a huge level of detail in the models, which gives them amazing drive and tone. As well as the detailed circuit models more efficient algorithms are included for situations where CPU considerations are more important than tone, but even these models are of the highest quality.

The recent 1.0.16 (atm) version which is more CPU-friendly but with only one model:
/software/win/98182-download_cytomic-the-drop-v1016-ce-vst-vr.html

BTW the only reason a haven't released this version from my toolbox I thought it's already released. Recently seen a new version, did a search and was a little surprised.

Myself prefer oldie to new despite extra CPU hit, especially on extra models.
Cytomic is not the fastest dev and this sort of true circuit modelling requires quite a time and dedication to get right, probably we will get optimized MS2 and Cascade in a year or two (or even more as it is quite a task for one man).

Old unoptimized 0.9.18 remains the only immediate option. Probably I'm wrong and newer version with these models exist, correct me then.

Most likely an imagination is playing tricks on me, but even default model in old version appears more wild and "analog-like" on high resonance settings. Probably that's a modelling quirk, not a feature and it's not supposed to be like that at all, but I like that.

Regarding aliasing, both old and new versions are perfectly fine with at least 4x oversampling or even better 176.4 sample rate. Andy aka Cytomic is well know for his dislike for aliasing and his products are aliasing-free, one of the cleanest if not the most.

Andy/Cytomic himself recommends 16x oversampling for the best quality possible, and I can say oversampling in his products is better than usual and usable, but non-realtime like r8brain or iZotope SRC will yield better quailty.

Thanks for the share once again Demontoad . I can't wait to try the differences between the modes after your little review on the 1.0.16 thread earlier!

But what is the disadvantage of this version 0.9.18 against
v1.0.16 ?
You can't save the settings of something similar?
Can you enlighten me?
thanks

If I wrote "PATCHED", it's patched. It means no limits and everything worx (like recall/save). It's the version I use myself, I've only added "Registered to V.R" mark for the release.

Used this version since its release, haven't run in any crashes/bugs/etc despite it being officially a "beta". Andy/Cytomic is quite a perfectionist and I even cannot remember him releasing something that did not worx in any way.

The only disadvantage is CPU-unfriendliness, the main focus of 1.0.x was optimization. For that reason Andy has removed two modes, he initially has planned even more (you can see some blank spaces intended for them in menu) but could not handle even three this fast.

This was already released a while back.
And you are completely wrong about this version. The new version has sallen key 2 & cascade plus extra models that beta does not have.

Old to new mappings are:
Sallen Key -> MS2 MD
Sallen Key MS2 -> MS2 HD
Cascade -> SHR HD
Cascade SHJ -> SHR HD

The filter models are:

MS1 = Sallen Key with transistor core (eg MS20 mk1)
MS2 = Sallen Key with LM13700 core (eg MS20 mk2)
SMP = Custom designed circuit with tone half-way between an MS2 and OSR
OSR = State Variable filter with OTA core (eg OSCar)
SHR = Cascade with IR3109 core, diode in feedback (eg SH-101 SH-2)
JPR = Cascade with IR3109 core, OTA in feedback (eg Jupiter-8 Juno-6)
PRD = Transistor ladder core with differential buffer (eg Prodigy)

Not really sure why you would be using the old version, it's heavier CPU, less filter options plus less modulation options.

Many thanks, I haven't paid any attention to that element and did not know about the motherload of models hidden behind such a tiny text (even did not suspect it's clickable).
1.0.x is like a new plugin for me right now, so much to test and play with.

Even considered it unworthy target for cracking for the same reasons. If I'd noticed the stealth model menu I'd cracked and released it long time ago instead of just demoing and losing an interest. The GUI designer did a nice "copy protection" job, hehe.

Above shows this was a horrible GUI design idea to hide something as important as models menu behind such a stealth element.

I will fix the main post later (because it should be reapproved after any edit) and fix this misinformation.
Then old unoptimized version will be present just for comparison and history/antrhopology/etc.

Didn't know about the extra models in the old version. I'm a legit owner of the Drop so hopefully I can install the old version from Cytomic, otherwise I'll be using this...

EDIT: Looks like OP was mistaken.

Anthropologically speaking, you are unique and a credit to the species. 50,000 years from now future archeologists will dig up this thread and believe it to be representative of it's time and will have dedicated a chapter in history to it. Thank you for the post, your insight and it's revealing truths concerning our own personal musical futures. Namaste and blessings.

Thnx demontoad but this version does not work for me on win7 64 bit. either on fl studio or ableton live 9.2.3
I can load the plugin and tweak or load presets but the sound does not changes at all.
