Engine is a fully customizable multi-page sample player specially designed for a variety of sample libraries and virtual instruments. It was developed in cooperation by Magix (former Yellow Tools) and Best Service and is based on the Independence Sampler Technology.

All Engine-based products are fully compatible with the powerful software sampler Independence 2 or newer - so you can also use the ENGINE products to expand your Independence library - of course including all Independence parameters and features.

You have access to hundreds of totally customized, music related features. The user interface, file management, and ultra fast streaming integration, multi core processor support and the Auto-RAM-Cleaner allow you to load and use an unlimited number of instruments in seconds.

Best Service is excited to announce the immediate release of Engine 2.1.0.186. This new version brings a couple of really great new features and a lot of minor bug fixes. One of the new exciting features being the AU and VST 64-bit OS X support. From now Engines memory access is not limited any more to 4GB. Use a 64-bit sequencer to take full advantage of your computers RAM and load as many Best Service Engine instruments as you like (and your computer can handle).

Sorry to resurrect this, but just for the record:
With this 2.1.0.186 version - Epic World, Era Medieval Legends, and Desert Winds seem to work OK; they still give the "ytif_package::init() unknown version!" error, but they don't ask for a serial, and the instruments seem to load Fine.

Forest Kingdom II still doesn't work tho.

And with Magix Independence 3.1 and 3.2 it doesn't work at all.

I don't really know what tis is... I am often annoyed by silly talk like "Engine is designed to offer creative, flexible, and immediate solutions" which doesn't mean ANYTHING! Is there any music software that doesn't aim for that? haha.

Is it a horrible thing like Kontakt? Or more sensible to use? Thanks for any enlightenment.

I've been working in semi-pro and pro music for 20 years and I have not heard of this thing.

I'm guessing that I never heard of it because I never needed it ;)

Does it open Kontakt libraries? That could be useful - I hate Kontakt AND Reaktor - they do a good job but I hate *using* them, and hate their CPU spikes as they start playing something. I don't like NI's programming - bloated and shoddy, un-intuitive too.

I love the SOUND of NI stuff, not much better out there, and use it all the time. I just hate ACTUALLY PHYSICALLY USING it - parameters tucked away in stupid places - something simple like changing global pitch-bend amount in Reaktor or the synth Massive is a nightmare. Maybe because I'm a Mac person and expect things to follow a logical, simple, fast, route, like there should be no need for instructions (like a hammer) ;)

Even in Guitar Rig which I've used since v2 I STILL keep overwriting files because a double-click made something else (hidden) happen and so on. I find it all hugely annoying to work with. Like working with the greatest producer who only says yes or no or says, "the swallows fly this morning - what you seek can be found by their nesting material". DUDE! I just want to change global pitch bend to 7!

I agree with you pdc - mostly in all points! yes
NI-Products are generally intuition-killers, very technical, complicated stuff also with terrible ugly (always gray) Interfaces. But I use them often anyway, because most 3 party developers make libraries for them. Not really a bad deal!
