I have some skepticism about plugins that claim to be "AI-powered". It's easy to label something as "AI" these days, even when it's just a "sophisticated" automation script. However, it seems to me that Sonible has a solid reputation...
Can anyone with technical expertise shed light on this? Is Sonible’s AI truly artificial intelligence, or is it more of a cleverly designed automation tool? And if it is genuine AI, how effective is it in practice?
Additionally, for those who use Sonible’s plugins on a daily basis: Is it musically effective? How does it compare to FabFilter alternatives? It'd be cool to hear some Insights from experienced users...

99.9% of the stuff in the audio and video realm that slap's "AI" on their label is not TRUE AI at all. Mainly it's just a collection of algorithms that mimic different typical canned scenarios. There are a few tools out there that do employ more definitively accurate AI in their processes however they end up costing way more than a couple of hundred $.

That said, the sonible stuff for the most part is useful in it's own right. It can come in handy where you might want to apply a generic template to a mix or already released track. It can prove useful for setting up quick reference mixes where you just allow the analyzer to do it's thing with the canned presets. FabFilter is precise - it gives you total control with a little analysis to help guide. However the truly definitive tool at the end of all this is your own ears.

I'm wondering why another release of SEQ-3 when Smart eq 4 has been out for a minute now?

That's whats up. I don't think Sonible is for me, then. I'll stick to FabFilter. Honestly, the "AI-powered" marketing had the opposite effect on me...

I agree completely about the whole faux AI marketing thing. However I tend to like to keep those useful tools in the box for when the need arises. After all the price is right.

The problem is, the word "AI", often gets used as a synonym for machine learning. Sonible uses machine learning, which means huge datasets were used and a computer figured out the patterns in the data based on input output pairs. So in that sense, yes, the Sonible plugins can be considered AI.

I see what you're saying, and that does seem more believable since trained models can be compressed into the size of the plugin. They should market it as using machine learning; "AI-powered" feels like a stretch to me. Maybe I'm wrong for associating AI with more autonomous, general intelligence systems, which makes the term feel exaggerated for specific applications like this.

in my experience, SmartEQ gavme very bad "AI" settings for voices which are non-musical. Fabfilter is the Gem. but as a timesaver, Smart EQ has a space in rack.

SmartEQ 3? not 4? Does this have any merit over version 4?
