Vertigo Sound VSE-4 v1.0.226-R2R screenshot
Team R2R | 2024.02.18 | 32.2 MB
The VSE-4 plugin is inspired by the musical sound of the VSE-2 EQ, but presents its own unique sonic identity, integrated in a highly flexible user interface concept. With a fully parametric and modular design and its unique Saturation and FM Drive controls, the VSE-4 provides precise and musical EQing with analog sound, as well as exceptional control over the nonlinear behaviour of the filters. This enables the creation of more complex frequency-based distortion effects.

With a fully parametric and modular design and its unique Saturation and FM Drive controls, the VSE-4 provides precise and musical EQing with analog sound, as well as exceptional control over the nonlinear behaviour of the filters. This enables the creation of more complex frequency-based distortion effects.

The nonlinear filter circuits have been meticulously tuned and digitally modelled to give each of the 13 filter types its own sonic character. Combined with the Overdrive module there are even more options to create rich overtones or heavy distortion.

Features of the VSE-4 Plugin:
Discrete Gyrator Sound for maximum musical behaviour
High- and Lowpass Filters up to 36 dB/oct
4 fully parametric EQ bands with 13 different filter types
Adjustable Saturation and FM Drive per Band
Overdrive Module
Modular Signal Chain

It's a plugin that showcased hardware designer's skills and ideas beyond the limitation of analog, to not think about cost, components/parts, market and sales perspective. Really powerful tone shaping tool, also this interesting new filter-frequency self modulation drive which is kinda new for an EQ design. It's probably common in Filter and Synth world but maybe 1st in a mastering grade EQ. Apart from all that it's a Tube-sounding solid state EQ design (the Gyrator) that could also be new, common design was using FET, Mosfet.

It's an imaginary hardware plugin that judging from all those features, how Vertigo been doing their thing and the simpler version VSE2's pricetag ($6000), the hardware version of this plugin could be around $15k or maybe more.

The most excellent part is that these are NOT IR based and doesn't take a massive processing platform to implement. You can run more of these in parallel and not take the massive hit in CPU that the IR based stuff gives you.

I was eagerly awaiting VSM-4, and didn't even think about VSE-4, but this equalizer turned out to be much more of a gamechanger than VSM-4 for me!
Having multiband saturation on top of a really good mastering eq is just so good.
This thing will definitely stay on my masterbus.
