Analog-Phased EQ
Minimalist EQ that does zero damage to any part of your sound no matter what you do with it.

The Sound of q.632

q.632 is a modestly updated repackage of Magpha EQ, an obscure and defunct plugin whose unusual phase-modeled filters earned it a reputation for smoothness and fidelity that rival what comes out of $9,000 analog mastering EQ’s.

Spotting an opportunity to revive this lovely tech, Kush reached out to John Flynn, the mastering engineer who developed Magpha, and secured an exclusive license both to Magpha and its underlying EQ algorithms.

q.632 is the first Kush product to leverage Magpha’s EQ dsp, adding extended gain range, an updated Preset Manager and Apple Silicon compatibility. Magpha EQ’s core dsp (and tightly phased sound) remains untouched, and will slowly become incorporated into all of Kush’s products.

tl;dr: If you want a dead simple, minimalist EQ that does zero damage to any part of your sound no matter what you do with it, q.632 is the one to get.

A witch says,

* No iLok Driver installation is required to run.

* Our release loads faster and uses less memory than legit version.

Then on the other hand whatever you do with it it will improve the sound.

Is this EQ trying to be a Maselec M EQ and compete with new one from Relab?

Probably not. It's a repackage of Analog Magpha EQ by Balance Mastering, a plugin that was released back in 2018.

This eq has the sonic problem like Magpha since 2.1.0, not solved

Heads up on that: Plugindoctor doesn't measure q.632 correctly, something about its measurement speed and/or window size and/or other things that go over my head. q.632's eq dsp happens in stages, with the freq being calculated first, then a phase model being applied to that freq, and something about the "looking ahead and back" aspect of the phase filter messes with Plugindoctor's analysis.

It freaked me out at first, I thought "shit, we broke this eq!"

If you're curious about the actual curve behavior, Bertrom works well over here.

more details are welcome.

Just tried this on a mix - on the master Bus.... OMG, to me this sounds absolutely magic - dare I say among the best I have ever heard, period (IMHO). So smooth... Bravo Kush.
THANK YOU GUYS !

Try nulling it against Pro-Q or any other clean EQ and be shocked

What does it mean with "zero damage"? What's wrong with other EQs?
  Resident 2.02.2014 1 2615

The problem is this eq, algo broken in legacy Magpha EQ 2.1.0 and higher. Go to audiosex thread and see. Other eqs don't do this. This eq should be fixed.
Zero damage - they mean eqs done by amateur developers, cheap or very digital ones, or most from 2000s...
Everything ok with DMG audio, fabfilter, crave eq2, kirchhoff, TDR eqs, psp in fat mode, voxengo eq and tones of others... Analog mode, natural mode, FIR, compensated IIR, oversampled etc.... In 2023 problems in most eqs solved. But q632 just has another problem, in eq bands, ringing!

It’s not ringing, but ripple. (and it looks like it has ripple because it’s not ringing enough : ))

Oh No - Problem in Studio One 6.5 (Win) - Every time I close the plugin and then reopen it, the "PRESET NAME" is not maintained and and it defaults to some other preset name - despite that it does keep the changed SETTINGS..... very weird.
I tried saving my own preset and the same thing... no matter what, after closing and opening any preset, the NAME of the Preset shows false...
Anybody else have this ??????????

HELP - the issue remains (!) Preset Name changes or dissappears.... Preset name non persistent after closing plugin and reopen and same after closing/reopen DAW (Studio One Pro 6.5.1)
Anybody ?

Interesting reading about eqs, cramping vs decramping vs true natural analog phase, bit floats etc etc etc etc

Let's hear how analog these 1,s, 0,s and core DSP truly sound. With 23 whopping knobs to fiddle without harm, haha.

The ringing phenomenon people are talking about is not a problem. Rather, this is what makes this EQ special. Some people probably know what it is. The question I have is that it is missing the stepped frequency, MS toggle switch and highband up to 63000hz that the original magpha had.

It’s ripple, not ringing. And that was introduced in latest Magpha version only, all other versions didn’t exhibit ripple.

Yeah absolutely, i checked it demo ilok and missing lot of things from real, anyway is under the special observation list to improve for my needs.

A lot of nay sayers on those forums, but honestly I found it to be very simple to use and very very effective. Far easier to fine tune my instruments here vs Pro Q3.

Honestly these days I just reach for Luftikus, or maybe FabFilter.. or maybe DAW default EQs - they all do the job.

EQ is EQ, any difference between them will be subtle, and mostly be about 'saturation' or this or that, to add 'color'...

Ah i remember that Magpha EQ. Mastering engineers loved it. I think i still have the demo installed somewhere actually. Will have to pick this up.

Analog phase, near Nyquist frequency etc
No cramping
No decramping
Only true analog phase should be
