The best audio splitting software, backed by scientific papers and measures, is Demucs v4, which launched 3 weeks ago.
DeepRemix is great, but Demucs v4 is even better and it's free.

Wow. Just tested Demucs and expecially the drums sound fantastic with very few artifacts.
But separation of vocals was a hit and miss.

I just tried Demucs v4 on the Google Colab test server and compare it to RipX 6.02 and I agree that Demucs v4 does sound better.
I noticed less feedback and artifacts but the difference was very minimal.
On the google colab, you need to link your Google Drive and upload the Flac (or whatever extension file you want) so the process is quite a bit more tedious but the result were clear. Demucs does sound better then RipX, but again, by a very slight margin.
Good catch mmmusika1. Thanks for sharing.
I'll now try to see how i can make it work locally so I can save the upload and download time which is the big bummer.

Do you mean the demucs danielfrg website? It's not working for me, it says faile to fetch file.

There is a website called mvsep dot com which has the demucs v4 ht model already and it's working. Check it out.

No, I meant the Google Colab Test server that is listed in the github research page.

I just tried mvsep and the result is obviously the same as Google Colab but I find it a bit slower to process the tracks.

I'm looking for a local solution that I think mmmusika1 will provide in a simple form.

I think its command prompt based but with simple command, I can definitely deal with that without the need to use an upload/download online version which is the only bad thing I see about this whole thing.

One nice thing that RipX have (and that I use) is the ability to seperate the Kick, Snare and Hi Hat section so you can retrigger it with a VST in your DAW. But for the Musical instrumental section, Demucs definitely deliver with less feedback and artifacts. As I said, its not a HUGE improvement but the improvement is still obvious.

If someone is looking for an easy 4 clicks solution, RipX is still the best imo. But Demucs v4 deliver a better quality result. Again, imo.

can you explain how to get the demucs working on the google collab test server
  Member 29.09.2022 2 42

Ok. In a few hours, I will make a post teaching how to use it.
There are some hidden options that give even more quality.
It's an absolutely amazing tool!

That being said, the guide provided in the text is really straight-forward.
A little knowledge of coding goes a long way in these days!
It's way easier than it looks.

Hey. Just to update.
I wrote a full guide for Windows 10 last night, step by step.
I'm in the process of adapting it to:
- Windows 7
- MacOS 10.10-10.12
- MacOS 10.13+
Since they all use different Anaconda versions (the environment that Demucs runs).
And make it very user-friendly, so any music producer can use it.
I will release it this weekend.
Cheers!

will this guide apply to the demucs-gui version?
  Member 29.09.2022 2 42

No.
Tbh, a GUI for this is pretty pointless. You will see.
I wrote a list of commands in the guide that you can copy and paste.
The first one takes every file that ends with .mp3, .wav or .flac in the main folder and convert them to stems in separate folders.

I'm also adding FFMPEG commands, so you can merge stems in seconds without needing to open the DAW. This is pretty useful for making backing tracks (e.g. merge drums + bass + vocals and toss it in Guitar Pro; merge drums + bass + guitar and toss it in a karaoke software; etc.)
