Virtual Audio Cable 4.67 Retail screenshot

Virtual Audio Cable software allows you to transfer audio (wave) streams between applications and/or devices. It creates a set of virtual audio devices named "Virtual Cables", each of them consists of a pair of the waveform input/output devices. Any application can send audio stream to an output side of a cable, and any other application can receive this stream from an input side. All transfers are made digitally, providing NO sound quality loss (a bitperfect streaming).

VAC behavior is similar to "What You Hear" (or "What U Hear", "Stereo Mix") feature of Sound Blaster Live! and Audigy cards. But it is only similar, not equivalent. If you simply need a function like "Stereo Mix" under Vista/Win7/Win8, there could be better to try to enable it in your audio adapter.

Features:
Local (console) session only (does not work via Remote Desktop or Terminal Services).
Windows 5.x, 6.x and 10.x platforms (32-bit and 64-bit).
Up to 256 virtual cable devices (some systems limit number of MME devices).
1..20 milliseconds per interrupt/event.
1..100 pin instances.
Almost any of fixed point PCM audio formats (1000..384000 samples per second, 8..32 bits per sample, 1..8 channels). Floating point formats are not supported.
Almost no sound latency with maximal interrupt/event frequency.
RTAudio support with notification events, clock and position registers. Clock registers are bound to Virtual Cables so all streams in each cable are coherent.
Unlimited number of Kernel Streaming clients connected to each port.
Signal mixing (with saturation) between output port clients.
PCM format conversion (sampling rate, bits per sample, number of channels).
Volume control features (both attenuation and boost).
Channel scattering/gathering mode.
Watermark control technique to improve stream stability with unstable applications.
Stream buffering technique to partially compensate bad application buffering algorithms.
Control Panel application to configure cables and watch their state.
Audio Repeater application that transfers from any recording to any playback device.

System requirements:
Win 5.1..10.x (Windows XP/2003/Vista/Server 2008/Win7/8/8.1/10/11) platforms, 32-bit or 64-bit.

This is extremely cool. I had always seen it around, so I kept it in the back of my mind. I recently just unintentionally created a way to use it for myself, with the help of online guides and whatnot, which suggested such a thing. In other words, I needed a solution and it was suggested.

What I wanted to do was run any VST2 system-wide in a different way than I already do it with EqualizerAPO. That is great free software, btw. I briefly tested Virtual Audio Cable for 2 seconds, and I got it to change sound - so for that particular time being, I was satisfied. "Good install," if you Admins that do similar too, get what I mean.

The reason I wanted an alternate way was because EqualizerAPO is real-time, but graph 3D in plugins doesn't update the screen. Only audio is updated. I was entertaining the idea of a playlist rider for when I binge watch amateur clips; non-produced clips with all levels like you know, them there levels can be. heh heh - I tried Waves for a moment and Flux Level Magic. I will see about them again and whatever else I have soon I am sure.

Softube Weiss Compressor Limiter is nice for consistent levels and I use that for some years now, to do similar to the above.

VAC is similar to LoopBe1 in concept. Man-in-the-middle you can think of them like. I am just talking shop, but also, I would say get it even if you don't want to mess with it right now. It's handy.

Great software. The reason that I finally decided to use another software is that with Windows as OS in VAC I can't set more than 8 channels per virtual cable. (Although the nerdy manual promises that you can use up to 32 channels per cable even in Windows.) And the solution of using the repaeter to bundle multiple cables was ultimately too cumbersome for me.
So I switched to Link Pro and everything works the way I want it to. (This software is also quite "nerdy".)
