This is also true for me. I've occasionally used vpn's to diddle the download ratio, but I've got 8 terabytes full of videos, samples and software downloaded from here without ever spending a penny.

Win 11, everything working 100% well Steinberg stuff.

VST3 will not load in anything at all, Steinberg DAW or otherwise, and blocked.

Cert. installed well and latest 1.1.1 R2R Silk Emulator, and rebooted for good measure too. Replacing the VST3 with old one works well straight away like that.

If I think of anything, I will tell but it looks like R2R has to figure something. Maybe it is an AVX thing? My machine is not AVX.

Another idea which is dubious however, is that I noticed Steinberg Installation Assistant was updated earlier today, when opening Download Manager. This might have changed R2R workings but like I said, this is doubtful. Just a mention about this part.

Finally, I noticed the changelog, and it says it works with both Elicenser and Silk. Really, either way should work on this system and all of mine. No go. Best of luck for us in future. heh

P.S. The same result happened before R2R and install straight from Steinberg, with R2R file in correct location for that.

For me vst3 works perfectly fine on Reaper, Reason and Ableton Live 11 but i have issues with the content, i put the folder in the right directory but when i browse for the content the folder looks empty inside Backbone browser, with Retrologue 2 no problems at all, it sees all the contect, same path, what am i doing wrong with Backbone?

Well congrats, my Reaper, latest beta, won't allow it or show it at all.

You need like this though:
C:\ProgramData\Steinberg\Content\Backbone\VST Sound\FCP_SMT_800_Backbone_MP.vstsound ~63 MB (64,553 KB)

I have that, it's included in the release, i moved that file on that directory but on the Backbone browser that folder appears empty :(

This path: "C:\ProgramData\Steinberg\Content\Retrologue\VST Sound" works with Retrologue, this path: "C:\ProgramData\Steinberg\Content\Backbone\VST Sound"
doesn't work with Backbone, at least for me.

Edit: solved, apparently the "FCP_SMT_800_Backbone_MP.vstsound" inside this release doesn't show up on Backbone browser but everything shows up as soon you add all the the extra content in the separated release, all good now :)

Just got this working cubase 12 r2r ,install bakbone , for me i copied over manual content , then opened up sl manager (i have not updated it as someone above mentioned a new release .
it showed in there , however on loading it showed the vst but no gui , i shut down and then did the move
Epidemico mentioned manually move FCP_SMT_800_Backbone_MP.vstsound" inside the original release to the content folder

To any trying to figure about the above and comments: I noticed the common denominator with failed VST3 loading involves Win11. It seems like it is a possibility that it is not compatible with Win11 by manufacturer's coding or error. It is good to consider unless completely ruled out somehow. Luck!

Backbone v1.5 needs this file to work, and on fully installed C++ machines Win7 and Win11, I cannot locate it anywhere. So I'm thinking it is just a Windows10 file and that's why this is not working for those of us on 11. A guess.

Anyone have anything at all to say about this, confirmed or otherwise? Someone can upload that file for me to test with? I can't find x64 online anywhere, yet.

I'm on a fully updated WIN10 Machine and also dont have this dll. It seems to be a file installed when you install MS Visual Studio. So I dont think this dll is necessary to run Backbone.

When I tried to run the VST3 in BlueCat's Patchwork on one of my 7 machines, it reported straight away that it needed it. When I put the .dll in same folder as VST3, it moved on to complaining about uxtheme.dll instead.

I believe you, too, however. The main point of everything, to me it seems, is that Steinberg messed up and unintentionally made v1.5 incompatible with Windows 11. Even on my Win 11 machine, I clearly see it is having a directx issue which likely involves the aforementioned "scaling." Let's see if v1.6 or similar arrives soon!

I installed Silk Emulator and imported R2RCA.cer (R2R root certificate) successfully but running R2RCERTEST.exe for checking installation gives me an error: R2R root certificate is not installed! more strange is that right click and properties on R2RCERTEST.exe show that it is digitally signed by R2R!!.
i didnt install V.R license manager but backbone 1.5 shows no license in GUI, i think it is because silk emulator check R2R certificate by itself and it isn't correctly installed

You're welcome. I am fairly convinced we are waiting for v.1.6.0 or whatever number Steinberg assigns, when they release the fixed version that also works with Windows 11.

Now I have to ask it straight out: Have any been able to run v.1.5.0 successfully on Windows 11? I don't think so. heh

Literally, the GUI is the file shown in my comment here. When I have "old" VST3 running, it can be switched at whim to show old or new GUI. Look above :)

If you come back and report that it is all working well for you on Win11, I will eat my hat. It's my nice way of saying honestly and sincerely, "good luck for real" but I don't think so. All Win11 failed so far, known to me.

It's the GetDPIForMonitor function that is failing because the VST3 is looking for API-MS-WIN-SHCORE-SCALING-L1-1-1.DLL.

I've tried more things than you can shake a stick at, and actually made some positive progress and felt like I was getting there, but it all didn't work in the end. There is interesting commentary in SB forum in Backbone section that should be checked, especially by groups. Most definitely, there is a very significant percentage of machines having problems with this. I still think it mostly or almost all involves Win11, despite the commentary there.

As for the missing API .dll, the function actually exists in shcore.dll instead. I got my Win7 machines to not complain by changing the name of that to the missing API .dll, after placing it in the Backbone folder. (I had temporary progress with a handful of other ways like this, too.)

This is the problem address: 0x00000000025438d0 Exception code: 0xc000001d and on unload it does this: 0x0000000003d4aa20, Exception code: 0xc0000005

Steinberg will release an update soon, as a not-even-educated-but-wild guess. This thing is supposedly to have AI from Sony included - so it is not a bad guess they made it AVX only. If this is the case, well that would suck but at the very least, System Requirements needs to reflect it. I can't say for sure any single thing at this point, yet.

DWM fail, this key is called: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Dwm\DebugFailFast - and also, Event Log shows errors same as when no AVX like what happens with Wavestate Native or Massive X.

Just an FYI, I have the same issue on my win 10 computer, which is non AVX. On my newer laptop it runs fine (which is a 9th gen core i7) The sounds you make withe the new sony stuff, drumgan, can easily be transfered to a 1.10 backbone. The creates samples are in the folder you can specify and if you make that the project folder, the cubase project (cpr) will load backbone 1.1 with the 1.5 created sound.
You can also set app a general backbone user folder and you have to copy that over then.
Creating withe drumgan in backbone is quit nice. Watch the video on the backbone Steinberg page.
