HOLLYWOOD SOLO VIOLIN
The EastWest/Quantum Leap Hollywood Solo Violin virtual instrument is a library designed to work together seamlessly with the Hollywood Orchestra series. While it includes the same number of microphone positions, and many of the same features, there are a few key differences that are outlined below.

The microphone configuration is designed for solo instruments, as opposed to a full orchestra. Instead of the surround and vintage surround microphone positions used in the Hollywood Orchestra series, the Hollywood Solo Violin supplements the close and mid microphone positions with vintage alternatives.

In the Hollywood Solo Violin, dynamics and vibrato depth are linked together on the Mod Wheel (CC1), whereas the Hollywood Orchestra series offers independent control of dynamics and vibrato depth.

A new type of Legato instrument is available (Legato Sustain) that combines the legato and sustain articulations into one sample layer, allowing for more continuity over the duration of a note.

The EastWest Hollywood Solo Instruments series is comprised of Hollywood Harp, Hollywood Solo Cello and Hollywood Solo Violin.
These extensive libraries were recorded, engineered, and produced with the superior level of sound quality the EastWest brand is known for. Each of the instruments was recorded in Studio 1 at EastWest Studios, the same studio Hollywood Orchestra was recorded in. This gives the complete Hollywood Orchestral series a consistent sound and ambience, which emulates a traditional large studio orchestra.

A wide variety of articulations were recorded for each instrument, focusing on typical solo instrumentation. In some cases, these various articulations are presented as separate instruments in PLAY's Browser view. In other cases articulations are accessible via a key-switch instrument, where multiple articulations load as one instrument, and pressing a trigger key activates the current one.

These instruments can be used on their own or integrated into a larger orchestral framework with other titles in the Hollywood Orchestra Series. All these titles have been designed to work together to create an integrated orchestral sound. They were all...

- Recorded in the same studio with many of the same microphones and positions
- Engineered by Sound Engineer Shawn Murphy
- Produced by Doug Rogers and Nick Phoenix
- Programmed using the same practices and software

You need R2R PLAY/OPUS release to use this library (as a witch has said...)

I think it is nothing special, very bad and unrealistic legato transitions in the first demo heard here, 36 Gb is not worth it. I'll pass this time, thank you Decibel.

Shame , i really like PLAY VST GUI, but this libraries are so bad...
Really not worth this download, and no money of course...
Thanks Team R2R and DECiBELE for bringing this to people to try, but demos from this solo libraries are so bad.... I mean, Sonuscore Orchestra sound like..... Even Miroslav Philharmonik 1 have better solo strings which is old ages ....
This have many mics, bad ovreall, very plastic and unatural sound....

For "Hollywood Solo Series", their demos are bad, no presentation video, why? Because it's very, very bad...

Thanks for having the opportunity to test.

Hi Hennessy,
have you ever thought about changing your avatar picture?
No, that was just for fun...but at least this picture from EW looks good...even if it doesn't promise anything, absolutely nothing.
It was called A BIG GAME, right?
The only thing about this BIG GAME was that we uploaded the UVI libraries all at the speed of sound and shared them.
These East West libraries are shit and after I had downloaded everything so far, tested it and deleted it immediately, I'm fed up.
Even though R2R always does a good job, next time don't bait us with a BIG GAME, just ask if we can upload the libraries you need.
We are also happy to do it without giving anything in return and without making any big promises.
A few more words about the East West libraries.
I'm really glad that I've only bought one library from them so far, namely Ghostwriter.
A long time ago, but even then the disappointment was huge and I quickly regretted having spent money on it.
250 € just for the garbage!
Even for free, these libraries are still too expensive.
Time is money and waiting for a library from this manufacturer is just a waste of time.
See you never again EW...I hope you guys get off the market.

Anyway, thanks to DECIBELLE for testing...it's not your fault these libraries sound like shit.

It's off topic, but someone had to say it.
I agree with you.
Hopefully R2R will not play this game again.
On the other hand, I wonder if so much uvi libraries would have been shared so fast without the promise of a big premium.

Unfortunately, my avatar have nothing related in love with EW except like i have said couple of times, i like the concept of that picture itself. Nothing more. :)
Off topic, sorry, but, i don't like this BIG GAME too! Even the gong is awaited for months now, from September to be exact, and like you have said, time is money, and spending time waiting for THE GONG to come, is just, waste of time, waste of moths... Sorry R2R, but so far this is the worst game you have invented..
And to get back on topic, all EW libraries except Choirs, not all vocal libs are waste of time also.. It is good to have them in disposal, but from every library i found just one or so patch, that is actually usable and decent to use ... Same applies to UVI, omg, how bad is looking that thing, sound is even worse... Otherwise, all Kontakt libraries are much better... Definitely, for orchestral things Orchestral Tools is unbeatable for complete orchestra, for all other things we have Impact Soundworks, Best Service, ProjectSAM, even Spitfire, but OT beats them all in quality and richness in sound... Playability also... This is just ridiculous for a solo violin in 35gigs...

I feel someone need to make a topic, regarding BIG GAME and expectations and promises....
I understand they owe us nothing, but when you promise something then you should kepp it...
Games like this i don't like anymore!
I can imagine disappointment of people who actually contributed with UVI libraries how they feel now...
EW hate even more, waiting to test them for decade, and now this....

Thanks anyway! Appreciate efforts but useless for common user, except collectors...

Ps. For quality of libraries i dont blame R2R,that blame is on developers of EW and UVI, but i just say they lost much time and energy doing all this for nothing... I believe it is for nothing... Only they prove themselves for breaking their protections, and get people off them from fraud and super cool demos, but bad products in reality... For that i give them big THUMBS UP, but again waste of time, energy and probably resources...
Have a good one!
Cheers

I think it is more about the principle, the thing itself that EastWest protection was defeated after all these years. Since it seemed to have been a "one size fits all" protection, and they all got cracked in one swift strike, it is nice they release basically the entire East West catalog for us to play with. Some are crap, while some are good, and some are even great. Not many, but some :) I say keep them coming until they are all here. If nothing else, to just mess with EW.

R2R did everyone a favor by cracking the EW libraries. Now people can have them for free and will not waste their money buying junk.

maybe not sound so realistic / flexible. . . but the most important is user (musician, producer) else, all people with the best samples, will sound nice . . . and is not the case.
For me (i do not like falcon or kontakt ) this collection is so fantastic . . . BIG ONE for me.
Thanks to r2r and decibelle

Nothing bad, but you can get that violin sound in Hypersonic with 1.5gb and a lot of more patches...hypersonic sounds soft anf appealing to ears... This is just like plastic, played with paper cuts, sharp, harsh and overall bad... And for solo instrument in this quality 35gb is just too much.... You have PlugIn Guru patches for Omnisphere or even beter solo orchestra sounds for Serum (i dont remember right now bank name) but yes, not mutisamlpled but better sound for sure, less gb, and variety of sounds...

i bought the opus and i am really happy with that. did not know that violin and cello were included, but i disagree totally that east west material is shit.i do no think so. For me sounds great the strings, woodwinds, maybe brass too brilliant, percussion is great, enough for what i need. and so, i bought it.

I understand your point Treia, but if your purpose is to use in genres such as electronic music or experimental compositions they can work, but without being disrespectful, saying that they sound good in general is wrong, this product is not good at all and the price does not justify it for no reason and it is enough to go to the company's channel to realize that they themselves hide their demos because they know how terrible this product is. There are things that are indefensible and this is one of them.

Well, I have tested this. It' not so bad and with some tweaks it's Ok but only for soundtracks and cinematic tracks. If you are lookin for a violin for strings quartet or something like symphonic music, it does not fit, it's out of the body of the orchestra out of emotion and it mess everything!! In these cases do not download it.
Anyway many thanks DECiBELLE for the try, keep on!!

I referred to the solo string package. If you mean the opus edition, it's different because it offers good decent ensemble strings, but this hasn't always been the case for this company, which generally spends more on marketing than product development.

They were supposed to work as first chairs in the Hollywood Strings (like in LASS) and EW, on its fantasy marketing, try to sell them as solo instruments which looks like a fraud.
