Clean compressor with perfect curves. A very highly regarded and praised compressor/limiter with unique and ultra clean digital envelope algorithm.

FirComp is an ultra clean peak compressor/limiter with punchy attack, musical release, and optional lookahead smoothing, for tracks or busses. Zero/low latency and low CPU. Warm distortion at extreme settings.

Features

- Fast or same-sample attack times that never sound "clicky", even in zero latency mode
- Innovative digital envelope detection algorithm allows for much lower distortion than typical peak compressors (see a plot of a 1kHz hard limited sine wave in zero latency mode)

Agree! I was a bit shocked when I first tried this as I wasn't expecting too much, but it is so good. Can't wait for v2!

This compressor is just unbelievable. Perfect for my usage, as I record everything through an analogue chain and what I generally want is a transparent corrective compression when I'm mixing. This is IT. Comparable compressor: TDR Kotelnikov, which also gets a lot of love here.

Suddenly my ITB compressor choice of compressors have shrank significantly. Just wow! You just don't expect this kind of quality from an ITB compressor, let alone free one! I'm eagerly awaiting more plugins from this guy. Yeah, a distortion/saturation plugin would be excellent!

It seems the attack is excellent - what uses are you finding for it that make it outshine other compressors that are supposed to be the best? And which do you find are the ones to keep in combination with this one?

What you pointed out - the attack is excellent, very close to my hardware VCA compressors, so it is incredibly useful for creative purposes [shaping transients], but what's also quite important - it sounds pretty clean even at extreme settings, without oversampling and at 0 latency. Pretty magical if you ask me. How did he do it? I'm sure there are some developers asking the same questions right now.

There is a great thread at gearslutz about it. Just go to jonvaudio.com/fircomp and scroll down for the link to that thread. It's very informative. The guy who started it is very knowledgeable and has great ears. I know him from KVRAudio and he's one of my favourite people there.

I read the manual twice but didn't see it mentioned..
From the website:
"FirComp Low Ratio "quick addition" version
This is a "quick addition" version of FirComp while v2.0 is under development. This version breaks compatibility with current projects and needs to be rescanned to work correctly. It adds additional compression ratios of 1.2 and 1.5, and an additional 100Hz sidechain hipass filter option."

So which version is this? given the inclusion of Linux, is this the low ratio version?

It includes both versions.
I am assuming I can use that one, since i do not have any projects that rely on a previous version.
But i installed (placed) both, renaming the low ratio to "FirCompLo.vst3'.
When i load it i do not see the extra low ratios or 100Hz sidechain.
Hmmm.
So, I removed the standard one and now i have the Lo Ratio one working fine.
Having both seems to not work even if renamed.

I use the Lo Ratio one, too. Both in Linux and Windows. This compressor really impressed me. So weird that it's free, and I'm so thankful for the Linux version.

Hopefully he won't put a exorbitant pricetag on it! It will probably still be worth it to drop €50-100 on it, depending on the new features.
