MAAT thEQblue v3.0.3 Incl Emulator-R2R screenshot

A dozen precision variations on “analog,” all in one EQ.

Yes, Your Blueness
Why develop yet one more parametric equalizer (PEQ) when there’s already hundreds on the market? The answer is simple…’Cuz there was room for improvement! It was customers of the original LinearPhase PEQ Red and Orange who asked Algorithmix to develop a classic EQ, for recording and mixing tasks, with unparalleled purity and transparency. Over several years, our Dr. Christoph closely analyzed many of the best out there, and compiled a vast knowledgebase of analog EQ best practices. Cherry picking from that, he implemented not just one or two, but an entire collection of trad minimal phase EQs. The result? A distillation of analog antecedents, while others are based on new ideas.
We know you’ll enjoy our dozen variations of blue, newly revised by MAAT, and will find your favorite sound. We’ve also added subtle but important touches, like the ability to freely assign Sections to either stereo [left/right] or sum/difference [L+R/L-R] at the same time, and to “group” all Sections and make a global gain change without disturbing the relationship of individual Sections.

The Twelve
We wanted to lift analog to another level, so we reverse engineered a variety of well respected hardware EQs, creating idealized digital versions from that inspiration. Rather than models or simulations that carry analog baggage, thEQblue has no noise, distortion or other secondary effects inherited from analog.

thEQblue is the most complete collection of classic equalizer Architectures ever assembled into one package. You get precise, idealized examples of legendary analog equalizer circuitry, complemented by progressive new models. Whether it’s vintage, modern, or experimental, thEQblue is a sonic sandbox for every mixing and mastering engineer to play in.

The new version includes a world's first, the addition of the exclusive FiDef digital audio process.
According to developer:
"FiDef is a proprietary psychoacoustic process, developed in cooperation with neuroscientists and DSP experts, that activates a receptive listener's subconscious. It makes digital audio content more compelling and brings audiences closer to the emotion of the music."
Which says nothing to me, to be honest:

mmm interesting technology -, it only remains to test if it is not just marketing like other developers

quote by fidef.comFiDef adds glue to your mix, giving you a professional, polished sound faster and better than analog summing busses, tape simulation/emulation plugins or other tricks. FiDef gives each element in your mix equal depth, space and balance, creating a final product that's more engaging, emotive and enjoyable.

Sounds like a joke, but no, they're proudly displaying this on their website.
Bold move haha

quote by fidef.comHow does it work ?

FiDef employs a highly specialized, patented process to create a custom noise profile that is tightly correlated to the source audio. The noise layer is sub-audible, but FiDef makes use of a phenomena that exploits the brain’s ability to make use of sub-audible noise to enhance the interpretation of sound.

Noise, lol. Precise noise, indeed.

@ diznek

... and some pop-corn :
quote by fidef.comHow does our brain detect sub-audible signals ?

We’ve all heard of subliminal advertising. A picture of popcorn or a message that says “eat popcorn” is put into one frame of a movie film. Nobody in the audience can see the message that appears for only 1/24th of a second on the screen, but their brains pick up on it easily. Popcorn sales suddenly increase at the concession stand. Sub-audible signals work in a similar way. The listener cannot consciously hear the sub-audible signal, but the brain picks up on it clearly.

Terrible arguments. It's like infra-marketing. Seriously, subliminal had its glorious time back in 2008...
I was doubting about MAAT, being in fact just marketing. But damn, their way of communicating doesn't help.

This and the linear eq that does not pre ring but "yeah we never said that, it does in fact."
Just using the repute of a brand name using FIR revolutionary tech, early 2000's. Selling it a thousand, a decade and a half later.

These guys are definitely strange folks... still curious to test this tech though.
I'm one of those guys willing to free himself from hardware and all the hassle following. Cutting the hw from the functioning cycle and letting it for hobbyist, elitists and nostalgists. Collectors, museums. But for now there's still something missing. Few, but still.

As always, gracias for the share R2R.

you cant strip a F1 car from the real world of physics or you end up watching simulated races like in the first lockdown...
  Resident 1.04.2015 202

hahaha... funny fact, I did not know about the simulated races...

But don't get me wrong, I think your talking philosophy :) And I don't think this is the appropriate place to talk about our cherished subject which is reality, although my interest about this topic sir davis !
I keep the approach functional, this goes beyond hw itself. It's what they bring moreover. This thing, the <insert voodoo adjectives, 3d, depth, openess ect..>
I hate to write it, because I hate to hear it. But I hear it. Most of us hear it. I really hate to hear summing mixers. Those are pricey machines and kind of absurd in a certain way. I tried to change my mind for a long time. I can't help myself.
Plugins are distinct tools, and hardware machines are too. Those are two discrete family of tools.
Plugins are, less and less, lacking of the later function, the soul. This is where I hear a "functional lacking".
I hope I kept things clear and not made them hazier, I've got nothing against traditional mixing, big studios, gear ect... It always been superb experiences, but with today demand, the market crunch, the world is changing, lol

For I while I was addicted to plug-ins. Now everytime a new kid on the block appears I go "can I null it with Pro-Q?". Almost alwyas the answer is "yes". FabFilter should change their mantra to - "Pro-Q: nulls every other eq" :)
  Resident 15.08.2012 1225

well it doesnt, not even equilibrium, but q10 does in fixed states with multiple bands to simulated a single band of lets say a hardware eq, but you also have to emulated the fake gain of lets say a maag eq. interesting stuff tho. just not practical. a snapshot. and if you work only with snapshots, you can use a IR. enter waves with their pultec and helios. combine IR snapshots with algos vs static snapshots in acustica aqua.

The signature maat sound That DMG and CabFilter can’t do would be the very very smeared transients that transforms any kick drum into a lifeless splash.

Also Weiss use the same (very old and underperforming) linear phase algos. Usually the algos do not get old but these ones did

Judging by 'popcorn explanation', FiDef method might be imagined as a series of very short lasting bursts of dithering noise, too short to be perceived.
But the 'ordinary' dithering noise is not perceived as noise either, but as something integrated with the signal, which improves its sharpness (detail).
FiDef method suggests that chopped dithering noise is better because is gets 'perceived' by subconscious layer of mind only (!?) and integrated with the signal just here and there, which gives 'better results' simply because subconscious layer of mind is supposedly "superior" to the conscious one, although it does not improve sound sharpness (detail) at all.

Some of you have used it and checked if it is really worth introducing random noise

Tested VST2.x64: causes massive probems with Reaper on Win7 x64: extreme CPU % even if plugin does nothing.
Sometimes plugin GUI does not load up at all, yet massive CPU spikes.

And for those who may ask: Yes i do have the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2019 x64 installed as required.

Just choose 'CPU saving mode' and switch to VST3.

MAAT is using an extremely high-precision spectrum rendering method, which will seriously affect CPU performance, and it seems that MAAT is temporarily unable to hand over these things to the GPU for processing.

Funny. i figured CPU spiked only happen when GUI is open and visible.
So if plugin processes audio and it's GUI is not popped up: all fine...
What a LAME coding-job MAAT has done on it..
