PG Music Band-in-a-Box 2019 complete screenshot
AudioZ Exclusive | 14.5 GB / 104 GB
Band-in-a-Box® is so easy to use! Just type in the chords for any song using standard chord symbols (like C, Fm7, or C13b9), choose the style you'd like, and Band-in-a-Box® does the rest... Band-in-a-Box® automatically generates a complete professional-quality arrangement of piano, bass, drums, guitar, and strings or horns.

Divided in 2 parts: The program / The real tracks

(Recommended) - Download both parts. Extract the main program, then extract the realtracks.zip inside the folder that the main program was extracted to (the realtracks path will look like :\band in a box\realtracks\ )

Run the bbw64.exe, then go to File-> Load Style from StylePicker. In the window that appears, at the bottom middle, click Rebuild and choose the slow option from the menu that appears. Wait about 30 seconds, then, you can use the program as normal.

NOTE: If you unzipped the realtracks to a custom location, you can set the path in Edit -> Preferences and click the Realtracks button, in the new window that appears, the path can be set in the middle left of the new window that opens.

Users that know what they are doing AND do not need the realtracks can skip downloading the realtracks.zip and merely download the main program. They will still need to build the styles list by going to File-> Load Style from StylePicker. In the window that appears, at the bottom middle, click Rebuild and choose the slow option from the menu that appears. Wait about 30 seconds, then, you can use the program as normal.

This is content complete as of the final 2019 release. It is missing the newly released Xtra Styles 8, Realtracks 329-352, and the 2020-49 pak, and of course, this is the final 2019 release, not the newly released 2020 version (if anyone has these, PM littlewierdo).

However, this is, as stated, content complete, containing all official styles released for BIAB up to and including BIAB 2019, containing all realtracks, all XTRA Styles, all bonus paks, songs and lessons, etc. The content list is too long to list, but, it is all there, and verified.

All of the extra addons are installed and accessible now within the main GUI (realband, chordwizard, etc) and do not have to be located in the folder structure to run.

The VST's are located in a folder in the main BIAB folder titled VST.

Finally, you can delete any old versions of this you have laying around, this is the entire program, cleaned up even more so than my previous releases, it is everything the previous releases had plus new content, you do not need to keep the old versions around.

if you ever see this in a torrent, please pm me. i've tried downloading the hundreds of parts in the past postings of this collection and there's always either something missing or some of the chunks got corrupted at some point along the way. not that i don't appreciate all the time and effort that littlewierdo puts into this. i just haven't been able to get it all from the .rar stage to the actual files stage.

How does one utilizes this software to make contemporary music like different genres/subgenres of EDM, Pop, Hip-Hop, RnB etc?

This software has so much potential but its extremely outdated User Interface is such a big turn-off. PG Music should hire a team of UI/UX designers, and only then, in my humble opinion, this software can reach its true potential. Or at least they need to upload really good quality of tutorials to showcase BIAB being used for present-day music styles.

And LittleWeirdo is A Great Deal of Awesomeness!

It will NEVER happen in my opinion because PG Music is very happy with its customers (who are mostly seniors). These seniors do not want different UI software from what they have always known (Win 95, 98, XP).

Yes! I couldn't agree with you more! If you see the comments section on their YouTube videos, you can easily deduce who's their target demographic - it's session musicians. But I still believe in the power of this software!

@Massichat - how do you employ this software to enhance your musical ideas?

There are thousands of ways to use it because, as you said, its potontil is enormous despite an inerface not frankly engaging.
Personally, I use it as inspiration, especially when I have a new melody in mind and I don't know what tempo, style, feel will suit it best.
Sometimes I synchronize BiaB with FL using LoopMidi, I put a chord progression and the playback helps me to finish the composition.

BIAB is a sketching tool for serious composers, or a great lazy tool for soundalikes. Its also a great tool for learning to improvise / play an instrument.

Imagine this, you are scoring a film, you need something that sounds like country rock for a bar scene to take place in Texas. The film company doesnt want to pay a licensing fee to use Rascal Flatts or Carrie Underwood, so, you fire up BIAB and create a sound-alike in about 10 minutes with almost no effort. Throw that into your DAW and do some minor FX processing and the result after about 20 minutes is a song perfectly suited for that purpose.

I recently use this to do a church song. I used Project Sam's jazz collection called swing to create the short staccatos heard from the brass, and I cant remember what I used to write the saxophone and trumpet melodies. But everything in the background other than the big brass stuff is band in a box, created in about 10 minutes.

https://soundcloud.com/joshua-gardner-15/du-ar-helig-du-ar-hel

In the same similar type of work, I was asked to create a backing track for Shout to the Lord, this was done entirely with BIAB, probably in about 20 minutes of work, and was used in church, and the vocalist sung to it.

https://soundcloud.com/joshua-gardner-15/shout-to-the-lord-country-twang

Probably the best BIAB creation is a track I created when I was really trying to understand the capabilities of the software, I created something called "The Last Voice You'll Ever Hear," which I was able to use in a recent project I completed last month.

https://soundcloud.com/joshua-gardner-15/last-voice-youll-ever-hear

Three completely different styles of music here, I didnt need to know anything about chording structure or rhythmic styles, the software handled all of that.

This version I uploaded has a much improved UI from the previous versions as I was able to figure out how to improve and enable functionality from within the UI.

As a guy who does orchestral music, BIAB has been really useful for specific purposes, and basically, its usefulness all depends on what you need.

I could sum its usefulness up into one statement, if you need to create a karaoke style track that is unique, that is what it does really well. Heck, I used it a few days ago to generate a slap bass line I used in a pop orchestral track, because, well, I havent the foggiest idea how to play or utilize a bass guitar soundfont and have no interest in learning simply because I rarely use this sort of thing (which also eliminated the need to buy a slap bass soundfont).

Hi Littlewierdo,

Many many thanks for your ongoing refinements to this fabulous ugly beast.

You said...
"Divided in 2 parts: The program / The real tracks"

So, that's the best formatted upload yet. - great! thanks.

When comparing this release to your previous full version (July) at this link...
https://audioz.download/software/win/157962-download_band-in-a-box-2019-portable-biab-most-comprehensive-compilation.html

I'm NOT asking you to list the new refinements in this new update;
I know it will include loads of fiddly tweaks, and I'm more than happy to just trust your well respected refinements to BiaB.

But a broad brush question...

Would I be right to assume that all the new refinements are in the main lump (what you now just call 'The program') ?

Or, to put the same question the other way round...
Is 'The real tracks' content the same in both releases?
If not, then which realtracks would I be missing if I just stick with the realtracks from your previous (July) release?

Cheers

The realtracks "should" be identical between the previous release and this one. As I recall, I didnt change the realtracks at all. After installing, if you go to the style picker from File, in the top left corner are filters. The rightmost filter allows you to filter styles by missing styles / realtracks, using the top two options (set the topmost option, look at the results, then clear that setting and set the second option and look at the results). It should show no available styles if you set it to missing realtracks (again, do each option separately).

There may be 1 realtrack that is missing, if that is the case, let me know and Ill zip that up and make it available as a separate download.

Sticking with Littlewierdo's labelling "2 parts: The program / The real tracks"

The tests below were using 'the Program' from this December release
with 'the RealTracks' collection from the July release.
and I think they confirm what LittleWierdo said...
'The realtracks "should" be identical between the previous release and this one.'

There is a "What add-ons do I have?" dialogue box (on the Help menu)
It shows various lists (pity it doesn't list Midi Supertracks - but still useful)

I summarise those lists here as...

- Styles Disks 0 - 77
- Soloist Disk Sets 1 - 20
(those items are what you get from 'the Program' in this December release - no change from July)

- RealDrums 1 - 29
- RealTracks 1 - 328
(those items are what I got from 'the Realtracks' in the July release)

Additional info re: Midi Supertracks
The 'Select Midi Supertracks' dialogue box shows 249 items
and if I switch the options to "Show if not available (N/A)" it still shows 249 items,
so I interpret that as "every available Midi Supertack is installed"
(all of that is from 'the Program' in this December release - no change from July)

Then the test recommended by Littlewierdo...
(You do have to marvel at the bizarre but effective options in BiaB!)
In the style filter using this specific option...
"Show Only Styles with RealTracks/RealDrums that are NOT FOUND [RT n/a]"

This produced an empty list, which I interpret as..
"Every style that uses a RealTrack does have the necessary RealTrack available"

What I haven't even begun to describe is all the tiny tweak refinements that this Dec release offers. I prefer it to what I had in July but am glad I didn't need to download the (very large) realtracks again.

UPDATE:
Still talking about 'the Program' from this December release being used with 'the RealTracks' from the July release.

After rebuilding my styles database several times, the test revealed some missing RealDrums. Here's a few examples

Style: -54_SWIN, complains about not having RealDrums 'JazzBrushes54'
Style: -CARE128, complains about not having RealDrums 'Rock128'

What this amounts to is that the Drums folder within 'the Program' in the December version does contain many items that are not found in the July version of the Drums folder.
It is easy enough to fix just by carefully merging the two versions of the Drums folders.
(so nothing actually missing or required to be uploaded separately)
At it's simplest just add the December Drums folder to the July version and optionally either skip duplicates (preferred) or allow overwrites while merging.

You'll notice that this December version is almost entirely .wma files rather than .wav files
whereas the July version has both .wav and .wma (and is therefore a lot larger) (unless you've previously decided to remove the .wavs)

Before I merged them...
Drums July: 1,027 wav files, 1,049 .wma files
Drums December: 5 wav files, 1,048 .wma files

Those 5 .wav files (with no .wma equivalents) are what the style picker complained about.
- Country2Beat16_120_Style.wav
- CountryWaltz_120_Style.wav
- JazzBrushes54_170_Style.wav
- Rock128_070_Style.wav
- RockShuffle_145_Style.wav

Hey, without all these fiddly adjustments, it wouldn't be the legendary Band in a Box saga.

and this is just one example of why Littlewierdo is wisely recommending that you grab the whole thing from this December release.
--
Question for Littlewierdo. In this December release, are the RealDrums entirely downloaded within 'the Program' section of the downloads (seems like that to me who's only downloaded 'the Program' part) or does 'the Realtracks' section of the downloads also contain any additional Realdrums?

So, it gets real messy to be honest. To answer your last question, I literally took the realtracks folder and zipped it separately, everything else for the main program was zipped as the main program. Thinking about it now, I should have zipped the realdrums and realtracks together as the realtracks download, but I missed that.

The reason I dont recommend merging with the previous download is, I do a complete rebuild of BIAB prior to uploading it to make sure it is absolutely clean. This involves about 8-12 hours of installing, moving files around, renaming etc. Its gotten so bad that I have a checklist that I use to make sure I do everything correctly and dont miss anything, and just as an fyi, I just added to the checklist to zip the realtracks and realdrums together for the next upload to make the main program even lighter.

As PG releases new updates, they quietly update their realtrack installers without telling anyone. These updates add new styles that were previously offered as plus paks or the so-called 49 paks, or they fix errors and mistakes in the existing realtracks. This is why, if you find realtrack installers, they will frequently install to the wrong place, or, even more fun, will state that they are missing content in the filter method I described above (it might say you are missing a specific realtrack from say realtrack 200, yet you have installed it). When they move content from a 49 pak to a realtrack, they also change the source so that in the filter list, it shows its from a specific realtrack and not a plus pak, which makes this whole thing even more confusing.

The "What addons do I have?" is complete garbage. It isnt definitive, as you discovered, which is why I dont use it.

Now, on to my question, are you saying its missing drumtracks in THIS release? Because you said two different things, and its very possible, something got bungled in the realdrums and I might have to release a realdrum update. In fact, Im thinking I might do that, zip the realdrums separately, rezip and reup the main program and the realdrums separately, will think about that tomorrow.

I think I've said before that I fully appreciate how insanely fiddly it is to tame the BiaB beast (as you describe again above) and I have only total admiration for your ongoing efforts and achievements here.
I also keep on repeating your advice to newcomers to take the simplest path and just get this latest release in its entirety.

But I'm sure there are many people like me who already have the (very large) RealTracks from the July release and want to avoid downloading 104GB of RealTracks again, especially if it's just identical. You suggested they are identical, and my review 'appears to' confirm that.

While verifying that, a few issues came to light. The business of whether to regard RealDrums as part of 'the Program' (which you did this time) or as part of 'the Realtracks', or as you mention above, even better to have them as another separate chunk and thereby make the 'the Program' even lighter (next time) (and better separate because it seems like RealDrums did have updates but RealTracks did not)

Sorry if my reporting back about RealDrums contained ambiguities and confusion.
My comments were really ONLY for anyone else that was also using the July RealDrums.
I am NOT saying there's anything missing from the RealDrums that you included in 'the Program' section of this December release. UNLESS you are someone who yearns to have the .wav versions of the RealDrums tracks. The .wav versions (and .wma versions) were both included in the July release (it made the RealDrums much larger). I actually liked that, but I remember you got some unjustified criticism for leaving the .wavs in. I was sticking with the July RealDrums and then updating them with your complete (.wma) version found in 'the Program' section of this December release.

Something else that just came to light though... RealBand.
I can't see RealBand folder in 'the Program' section of these December downloads.
From what you said above I doubt if RealBand has been included in 'the RealTracks' section, so, did the RealBand folder get removed? or moved to somewhere else and then overlooked? or have I screwed up somewhere?
The RealBand executable is there OK. but when trying to use it...
"The program can't start because dllelastiquePro3.dll is missing from your computer"
That .dll file is (of course) found within the RealBand folder in previous releases.
So, an easy fix for anyone that has a RealBand folder from a previous release,

Many thanks again Litllewierdo, I sincerely can't say that too often.

I love portable versions, so thanks for the link.
Of many programs, this type is one of those that might be very useful on a portable SSD.
Fingers crossed I can figure it out ..both the install and the operation!
[edit] OMG so I saw the comment there that the main program is within the large download, but with a link to another upload, so i got that instead..
Somewhere within what i have I think there is a possibility!

Just because the previous release is labelled 'portable', don't get confused about that.
This release is just as portable.
I really wouldn't recommend straying away from this release in this post.
If you already have experience with BiaB then OK, you know your options.
But if not, then you could be walking into a configuration minefield trying to sort out the multitude of optional/desirable extras. Using Littlewierdo's latest release in this post, will save you hours, days, weeks, of tearing your hair out. There is no quicker way of getting this beast to work properly than downloading this version - or the July version. The July release is fine, but this one is better still. Anything else - be advised - is probably masochistic.
  Resident 14.08.2018 6 89
+115
Just download everything from this and delete from the other post. There are two separate downloads, the main program and the realtracks, you'll need both. Please, do not try and sort out the older versions and this version unless you really know what you are doing, I spent alot of time making it easy, so you dont have to figure it out, you just download, unzip, and run.

The only reason this is two separate downloads is because more advanced users dont want the realtracks, but I dont understand these weirdos, because the realtracks are what make BIAB so unique.

All releases of this are portable, including this release. It simply means you dont have to install anything, and there is minimal configuration to get it to work.
  Member 24.07.2014 150

Here's another tiny issue that is related to 'portability'.
Littlewierdo, you might like to add this advice to your next release's guide.

This is actually a Windows issue rather than a BiaB issue but it will affect many Windows users that use this downloaded (pre-installed) BiaB.
Many Windows users will already know about this issue and the easy solution.

The issue only happens because you're (wisely) using a copied installation of BiaB instead of going through the hassle of building your own installation.

[1] The Symptom:
You open 'Help' within BiaB and it appears to be broken.
You can see a list of contents but none of the contents actually display anything.
This is NOT a BiaB issue.

[2] Explore Further:
Find the Help file, i.e., the bbv.chm file.
It is located at (for example) C:\bb\Documentation\bbv.chm
but this location is actually wherever you chose to put BiaB
i.e., <your preferred: disk, path, BiaB-foldername>\Documentation\bbv.chm

Note if you double click the bbv.chm, i.e., launch it independently of BiaB,
it will open and show the same faulty display,
thereby proving that this has nothing to do with BiaB.

[3] Explanation:
A .chm contains compiled HTML files.
In theory, it could contain harmful scripts,
so your Windows security settings 'might' block its content from being displayed.

[4] The Remedy:
You don't need to change any of your windows security settings.
You just need to grant permission to display the .chm file contents.
This is how to do that...
- Right click the .chm file and select "Properties" on the popup menu.
- On the "General" tab, see at the bottom where it says something like
"This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer"
- Click the [Unblock] button.
- Then click "OK".
Now the Help file will work correctly, independently and within BiaB.

Further info for BiaB Help.
if you search for .chm within the Biab Folder you will find about a dozen different .chm files. The same issue and same solution will apply to several of them.

I found 4 of these .chm files were Russian help files. I just threw those away.
Disclaimer: if throwing these Russian help files into your waste bin causes your PC to become a Soviet bot, or starts making demands for roubles, it's not my fault.
