Sonoris Dither is a professional, high quality audio plugin for mastering purposes. With this plugin you can quantize audio to a lower bitdepth with dither and/or noiseshaping. The dithertype is selectable between TPDF and High Pass (HP) TPDF. TPDF is short for Triangular Probability Densitity Function, a form of dither that eliminates non-linear distortion during re-quantization and has no signal modulation artifacts.

Features

Dither types: Triangular Probability Densitity Function (TPDF)
Dither types: HighPass TPDF
5th order (curve A)
9th order (curve B and C)
Dither and noiseshaping independent adjustable
Dither is generated in assembly language
Quantization to 20 or 16 bit
Full automation possible
Low CPU load
Settings can be saved
64 bit integer math throughout the signal path, except for the noiseshaping filters

The finest 16bit-dither I've found so far (having tested quite a lot)!

The best dithering solution is the one which combines
-- perfect (=as far down on the dBFs scale as possible) prevention from quantization error distortion with
-- very low (audible) dither noise.
This is the case here, you get the mentioned prevention, and with HP-TPDF + shaping moreover you have an astonishingly "quiet" dithering noise.

So far, Schwa Psycho had been my choice for the best dithering solution (via Reaper's 32bit plugin bridge), but the quiet red variant of Psycho dither starts to distort much earlier already (= higher on the DBFs scale), and the green variant is roughly on a par with Sonoris in that respect, but has a much more audible dithering noise.

As for the latter aspect, one might say that, down at -90 dBFs, the noise remains inaudible anyway, but I think it's nice to keep it as inaudible as possible.

Sonoris' curve 2 sounds better to my taste (and is the subjectively quietest of all 3 curves), but curve 1 objectively has a better SNR, using less dithering noise energy.

Thanks a lot to Horsemen and R2R!!!

[ WTF I HAVE MY PERIODS MODE ON ]

What is your listening environment ? I'm suddenly very intrigued.
Amp ? Speakers ? Noise level ?
I'm way less intrigued by your talent at just copy/pasting what you found on the web. Please, I'm sure you can do better as one truism after the other .

I wrote about my experiences and estimation.
If you feel this to be "just copy/pasting" from the web, I'm sorry that my remarks seem to be of no value to you. And with this "ouverture" in your comment, I don't see any further use in detailed discussion about my listening environment or audio gear.

Perhaps there are others to whom my post might be of greater use.

By the way, it seems you need some eyeglasses for internet work, or stronger ones: Where did I write that I tested "them all"???
With my glasses, I'm only able to identify the words "tested quite a lot" in my post...

Yes, correct, please forgive me : " a lot ", instead of " all ". Because when there are only max 10 solutions around ( even if 15...? ), " a lot " and " all " is not the same thing .

As for the latter aspect, one might say that, down at -90 dBFs, the noise remains inaudible anyway, but I think it's nice to keep it as inaudible as possible.

Your setup must have costed you a fortune, especially the dead room.
Incredible.
And just another truism too.

@DAW - I'm not jumping into the proverbial fray, DAW, but I do have to say contest that
quote by DAW Really, we don't dither at home. This is part of the mastering engineer's job.

as, at very least, it's quite the assumption, as more and more people are mastering at home now--too what degree of success is, of course, up for debate, but it is becoming more common. I actually master my own tracks; it's more for financial reasons than anything else, but I do enjoy the challenge and have gotten better over time, especially after only mastering a track after letting the final mix sit for a good, long while, so that I can hear it with fresh (er,) ears.
So, "we" do dither at home...cuz we're broke bastards.
Just sayin'....
(And, incidently, I found Sonoris' Dither to yield better results--or maybe I should say, results that benefited my tracks more-- than Izotopes, which is one of the only other dithering units that I've used to any great degree. )

One IMPORTANT thing to remember tho: it IS a 24 BIT PLUGIN, meaning that only by inserting it, you reduce the word length( I.e it CLIPS) in a 32/64 floating point environment, daw/editor.

Actually I have to correct myself, the plugin will NOT clip, but it quite possibly will truncate.
