Cakewalk by BandLab is free now. Is this a deluxe paid version? Just wondering what the keygen is for.

The original requires you to register on their site and make an account in order to authorize. This release removes that and allows for complete offline use

Being obliged to let your daw connected while using warez vst is a no go.

Thanks to R2R and DB

This is not how it works. You don't need to be connected to use the DAW. Just to update once a month. That's all. I am not connected and I use this version of Bandlab since they took over and I am very satisfied with the monthly updates. It works great and have absolutely no issues with cracked VST's

But it's your choice to choose what ever version you want, R2R or Bandlabs free legit.

I'd personally think this is more about having the long term security to know that you can actually keep using this software if they ever go out of business and if their authentication servers ever go down. It's about 'liberating' the software if you will.

I don't need any authentification server to use it as I use it OFF LINE.
And if Bandlab goes out of buisiness, which I think will happen one day or the other, I will still be able to use the latest version freely !

You don't need to be connected to use the DAW.

That's great news, thank you

The guys at Cakewalk were way ahead of they're time with development, so sad Gibson never backed them, so glad BandLab took over and are allowing them to keep developing

My first PC sequencer was Cakewalk 3.0 but in time i switched to Cubase cause of that kind things. Now its free may be but too late, they killed a software and Bandlab cant make it alive.

No one killed that great DAW. As opposed to your comment, Bandlab keeps it alive by releasing updates and new features constantly.

I think you don't know what you are talking about.

I know exactly what i'm talking about. In 90's Cakewalk was one of most famous sequencer but in time it lose popularity now become free software. If any software lose its popularity it means they made many mistakes about developing and/or marketing. Now it become free cause no one cares. Bandlab thinks if they release for free they can make it alive...no they cant cause Cakewalk missed train, Bandlab is small company they cant handle it and there is many opponents. Former owners did mistakes finally they sold software, Bandlab did worse and releasing for free.

Not only was it one of the most famous music app in those days, it was one of the ONLY midi editor in the early 1990's.

While I was using Cakewalk 3.0 by Twelve Tone on my windows 3.11 pc (486 MMX), I was mostly using Voyetra Gold on my DOS pc for my gigs. Roland bought it and pushed it way farther. I came back to Cakewalk with SONAR 8.0 later on.

My point is, Cakewalk is a major pioneer in the DAW industry and even though it is not as popular these days as Ableton is, I think Cakewalk remain one of the DAW that offers the best technology and flexibility. It also has the best MIDI engine on all the market. I was very happy to see BandLab rescuing SONAR a few mounts ago.

With their montly updates and addon, it makes it a pretty "alive" DAW. I think only Reaper has as many regular updates compared to any others in the industry.

Why it's free today ?? I have no idea but, hey, why not take the opportunity for people that still don't know the product to adopt.

"Alive" represents popularity, Cakewalk is not dead but every acquires killed its popularity. If Bandlab could acquire Cakewalk and releasing for free it shows they bought for low price. What about former users ?, they spent money and now its free Bandlab saying "you fool" to people. People dont care updates, people like packs if some famous rookies using Ableton they will want to use Ableton. Fact is Bandlab know these things and they trying Reaper's way, give for free and build popularity. Now Its free and still many people dont care Cakewalk. Its all about perception, Pro Tools is not so good but its so popular in studios cause their marketing strategy worked.

There is social test. There is two cake, first cake's price is 5$ second cake's price is 20$ like that. People say 20$ cake taste is better. Both cake's are same. Now Cakewalk is free.

Well that is the main difference between you and me :

I don't give any importance to popularity !

If the product is good and meets my needs and pleases me, I will go for it whether its popular or not. Period !

Let me tell you a little story about popularity.

When I was in high school I had that girlfriend that was very popular and had friends all over the school. She was very POPULAR and was involved in many activities. She was hot and popular yeah... But she was a fucking bitch.

In my geography class, there was that cute little shy girl that was always alone and would't talk much and was kind of hard to approach. Well one day I broke the ice and today she is my wife. We have been married for 35 years now.

Oh! and by the way, ALIVE means ALIVE !!!

Have a nice day my friend !

Hey that is a nice story Safran, made me smile.
Similar to my story, I married the cute quiet nice one too, but I also kept the hot bitchy one as a mistress!
Just kidding about that last bit!

Popularity not working like that in software markets. There is strong relation between community, continuity, popularity and quality. Nice day too.

actually all Bandlab did was they took over from Gibson´s Cakewalk Sonar, so its exactly the same, just not the monthly updates

This runs smoother on my Win7 machine than Platinum. Might be the best Sonar yet!

Fantastic professional DAW and freeware. With Win10 and wasapi it works incredibly with latencies of 2ms. If you do not need more than two channels in / out you will not need external audio interface. Easy to use and very powerful. I no longer use S1, I like Sonar by Bandlab more. You don't need to be connected to work. People is talking without knowing.
