Analog Obsession All Bundle 8.11.2018 WiN MAC screenshot
WiN MAC | AudioZ Exclusive | 635.49 MB
Analog Obsession is hardware and plugin developer. Started with building custom studio equipment for studios. AO started plugin development instead of hardware after 4 years. My purpose is implementing analog studio equipments into digital world. Electronic knowledge is the most important thing to do that. And AO developing plugin with this knowledge now. AO knows what musicians and engineers need. Then focused mostly unbuilt plugins of hardwares. Our processors can be used in the most popular host applications such as Steinberg Cubase, Apple Logic, Ableton Live, Avid ProTools(soon) and many others.

A little confused about what this is. Can anyone clarify?

Really badly designed plugins that use a lot of CPU and whose greatest merit is that they supposedly do impart "analog mojo".

Thanks! Totally forgot about this guy. Looks like he wised up and priced his plugins at least semi-sanely (assuming they aren't still riddled with bugs and completely un-optimized). Looking forward to seeing if any of these are worth while.

Edit: oh well, still completely buggy and just mostly all-around terrible plugins. His 1073 (BritChannel) preamp isn't even a preamp, it's literally just input gain, zero saturation or color whatsoever .... I think he's obsessed with analog looking plugins but not actually obsessed with sound.

Edit2: from his website regarding BritChannel:
PREAMP

Microphone and Line preamp gain control.Fully emulated from original design.

This guy is at best very dumb, at worst a con artist.

What do you think about the previous comment of poopooirwin?
just for curiosity..

Not all the plugins of this house are the best, but I love most of them. When using these plugins I can feel how I can manipulate the color of the sound (eq) and transients (Comp / Limit and trax plugin) without changing the tone of the sound. When using some waves plugins or compressors like '' The glue '' I feel how they modify and break the tone (cold, harsh and more artificial results...). You can do the test by yourself using SPL-transient designer vs the analog obsession trax plugin or Wave ssl comp vs buster AO comp, the difference is clear. Analog obsession = clarity, smooth, real (It's my opinion)

The bad thing about Analog Obsession is that some of the compressors meters do not work 100% and sometimes you have to be very careful. and also that some of plugins need an excessively high input gain for the threshold to work. But the sound quality compensates both '' bugs '' haha

it's only my opinion !! Sorry for my english

If he isn't being sarcastic, he has extremely low standards for quality. Most of these plugins feel like beta versions (if not alpha versions). The developer was charging $150-$250 for most of these back in April, now he's brought them down to $30-$50, which would be fair if the quality was up to snuff. But honestly they just feel like freeware.

And I wouldn't be remotely as critical if these were freeware. But when you claim to be doing component modelling and analog emulation, but your "preamp" is nothing more than a volume knob, you don't deserve a penny.

not all the songs on an album can be excellent ... and the 1073 is not his best song hahah. although the preamp knob adds harmonics, but not the same as the original gear....

but what do you think about the ssl emulation (buster)? of the trax plugin? or the BXQ or Harqules eq? Super smooth compresion and super clean and alive EQ. From the manufacturers that I've tried Analog obsession for now offers me the most real sound when mixing in the box. If you know something that equals or improves the quality of that, I'll try it out.

although the preamp knob adds harmonics

No, it quite literally does not add harmonics whatsoever. That's the problem. It's nothing but a volume knob.

Buster is just too aggressive to be anything like the SSL (What I consider a glue compressor and should be anything but aggressive). Does that make it bad? Not necessarily, just not an emulation, or not a good emulation at least. I like Waves CLA-76 but I don't think it's at all an accurate 1176.

Trax is fine I guess. A bit underwhelming compared to SPL Transient Designer or Softube's Transient Shaper. But it's fine.

BXQ is fine, I actually think this guy doesn't do terribly with basic EQ stuff. I actually really like Harqules, it's a shame it still uses about 16x as much CPU as a plugin like that should. He has managed to get it down a tiny bit, I think it was using about 20x as much CPU as it should have back in April. So there's that...

It could actually be a nice little plugin, some really nice filter shapes in there. Just noticed a major bug though while analyzing the signal. The knobs are hard-set to snap on certain values right? Wrong. It would be logical to assume so, but when you move the boost/attenuation knob you're actually moving it freely between all those set values. And there's no 0 point? The resting place is +2db? So to get it back to 0 you move the knob to +2db and then you have to guess the rest of the way back to 0 since there's no visual feedback from that point.

Like I said, this is some alpha/beta testing stuff that shouldn't exist in a final product.

Some of his plugins are top notch, mostly eqs.
The OSS and Fetish are damn good compressors.
Some are buggy as hell, perhaps he fixed those now.

Fetish is a good compressor? Am I taking crazy pills? I just sent a drum signal to two tracks with Fetish on them, phase inverted one, perfect signal cancellation. So far so good. Then I moved the attack and release times on one. Still perfect signal cancellation... uh what? Then I changed the ratio. Still cancelled. So.... Fetish might do something but it certainly isn't compressing anything

Edit: okay, the compressor behaves completely differently depending on if the audio source is from the original track or routed from another track. Something I've never seen literally any other plugin have an issue with. So, it's compressing, it just seems to have a major issue with basic input signal processing. Something that explains a lot about many of these plugins and the inconsistency with meters and gain staging.

Really???
Why did they do that?

There's plenty of drama to read if you check out his threads on Gearslutz. Apparently it looks like the developer is just very new to plugin development and programming in general. People tracked down some of his forum posts elsewhere on the internet where he was asking some programming 101 type questions - mere months before he started releasing plugins (for hundreds of dollars!). So, my guess is he's just completely oblivious.

If these were freeware, I would actually give the guy some props and say his effort is commendable, but the fact that he just keeps pumping out buggy plugin after buggy plugin, discontinuing them left and right before he ever worked out a single bug, disgustingly overcharging (well, he has gotten it down to just grossly overcharging).... I just.... I dunno...

Damn I wanted these plugins but they're starting to sound like a waste of time even getting

I think you're points are valid on these, now with the downsides pointed out I can say the good thing about AO are the EQ's which are still excellent for coloring and saturation, if used correctly in combination with stuff from other dev's, certain audible 3D capabilities are obtainable. The free Pultec emulation from the Diamond Series is worth checking out also. These aren't for the quick mix type of producer expecting an accurate emulation of their favorite vintage piece though, experimentation is needed.

Of course its compressing. Start using your ears for a change.
Fetish is sound wise as good as the nebula comp, minus the awkward metering,
He is experienced with coding, he isnt new, but is very stubborn and refuses to work with others or beta test, hence some of the plugins are very buggy and unfinished.
He has big potential, some of his plugins are excellent.

There are no previously released NVQ and NVTQ.
Several plugins have different file size. Difference?)

for me the silver lining with these is that the "bugs" in these often times create some weird behaviors that remind me of dying battery pedals or broken analog gear(now there's an interesting thought, a set of plugins that emulate analog gear shitting the bed!) - i know cuz i have a lot of old crappy gear that i've found being thrown out...

and so i've been able to get all sorts of weird analog sounding hissy unpredictable textures from them... like for example, sending +35db into the BESURENES one... it just craps out but if you play with the emulation, you can get all sorts of weird textures that then sound pretty good if you're doing more experimental stuff. i wouldn't use most of these for any real world tasks but for generating some weird analog grit layered into the background... these are great!

Someone on ru-tracker claimed that these AO plugins are made with Acustica technology. And apparently the Dev has drawn a lot of heat. Developing and debugging plugs is a lot of work and if the guy works alone as someone stated here, that's a lot of work for one guy.

FWIW, I read on the Acustica site that Acustica developed a technology that would allow non experts to sample the hardware and create these hardware profile sims. So apparently there are other companies out there using Acustica tech, ie., CDSoundmaster.

PS- I noticed on the AO site that the plugs are only $29-$39 now with several for free.
