OverTone DSP has released their new EQ4000 E-Series Console EQ plug-in for Windows, Mac and Linux, based on the E-Series channel EQ processing from one of the best-known British recording consoles.

EQ4000 comprises high frequency, high-mid, low-mid and low frequency sections The low and high frequency sections are independently configurable for 'bell' or 'shelf' modes while the mid sections provide fully parametric equalization with variable gain, frequency and Q.

The plug-in emulates both the earlier 'Brown' (02) and later 'Black' (242) versions of the original 4000 E-Series hardware, as indicated by the low frequency control knob colour, while cross-linking between each mid section and its corresponding low or high frequency shelf / bell filter emulates the characteristic control interaction of the original design.

DSP technology accurately models the analogue filter response without requiring CPU intensive oversampling, thereby avoiding additional latency, or other undesirable side-effects while being economical with system resources.

Lol, the most discussed possibility is, that SSL did not tolerate the design of this EQ and the DYN4000 because their looks have too much in common with the original unit. Great to have the second one back, now! Thx a lot and happy 2018!

When OverTone DSP randomly disappeared for a while, I didn't think it could possibly be over a dispute with SSL. I mean, SSL isn't API. They don't have a rep for being sue happy, and there are tons of SSL emulations out there, none of which have randomly disappeared, at least in recent history.

Maybe other devs with SSL emulations were just like, "no, screw you. I am allowed to call my plugin a name including the words "solid" and/or "4000" and say it's an emulation of classic british hardware. Watch me."

I seriously doubt it, though- Most people and businesses cower to legal threats from bigger entities. Still, maybe having put all the time into developing an SSL plugin gives them incentive to grow a spine when SSL comes with the legal threats.

BUT The story could be something far different. Maybe an SSL console killed the devs mother or some shit! Professional audio mystery of the year, for sure!
