NomadFactory - BusDriver v1.0 (FREEWARE)

Bus-Driver is an optical compressor that provides a wide range of compression effects, reminiscent of the best vintage compressors made in the ‘60s.

Compression is one of those studio processes that is all too often taken for granted and not usually used to its full potential. Today’s producers think nothing of inserting compressors on every single channel of their DAW when mixing, but old school engineers had to learn to make the most of only a few units of compression and this made them learn them inside out to use them to their best advantage. Bus Driver is modelled on the classics from the 'golden age' of tube compressors.

Also included in Bus Driver is a Tube-Driver Saturation feature. It allows you to add the sound of a vintage tube amplifier giving you the differing electronic characteristics of triode, tetrode, and pentode vacuum tubes. So you can add the vintage warmth of the those models of the classic tubes (e.g. ECC83, 12AX7, etc..) to your tracks or on your mix bus.

Nomad Factory designed an Output Stage Soft-Clipping to eliminate digital clipping at any output level and produce a smoother distortion characteristic. This feature is in addition to the Tube-Driver Saturation Modeling included in Bus-Driver.

I've been playing with this for a while and I like the Tube Driver and Soft Clipper in this plugin, but compression is not that smooth and it filters out too much bass. This plugin could benefit from a HPF in the detector "circuit". It is an interesting processor for tracks and busses, but I don't think I would put a whole mix through it. Maybe with *very* subtle settings up to "1" or so. It's nice of them to give it out for free for a limited time. It costs almost $120 and I think that's a bit too much when you compare this plugin to much cheaper and better sounding Klanghelm compressor and saturation plugins.

' Here is the whole story and a description of this great new product from our friend, Bernie Torelli.

Just over two years ago, in December 2013, DontCrack asked the Audio Community to help the owner of Nomad Factory, Bernie Torelli, with a “Raising Funds For Bernie” campaign. The response was overwhelming, as we raised enough money to pay all the mounting hospital bills and keep Nomad Factory strong. Both Bernie and the DontCrack team were/are very touched by the incredible outcome of this fundraising drive and the flood of emails expressing concern for Bernie’s condition.

This vast support from you all eased the stress and worry to the point where Bernie could really get back to work. It quite literally put him back on his feet. It also let Nomad Factory get into a more comfortable frame, enabling them to get extra people to handle the work that Bernie was not able to do, due to the impact of his struggle with his cancer.

Since then, Bernie’s health had been a series of ‘good days’ and ‘bad days’, but throughout the past two years he was, and remians, a source of inspiration to us in rememberance with his constant good humour and unrelenting drive to keep things moving forward despite health problems that would crush the rest of us. Bernie was a warrior, nothing less. He sadly passed away, January 18th. R.I.P. Bernie, we miss you!

A Facebook page was also created where condolences in Bernie's memory may be left. '

Jeez, its people like you that make this world so shitty sometimes. A guy is dying, so people help him out. To give something back to the community he arranges for this plugin to be given away for a while after he dies.

And then you say these nasty things about the devs, you should be ashamed of yourself but of course you wont be. If you dont like the idea so much, why bother posting in this thread.

It is a free giveaway..

I got the same offer on my Eventide Ultrachannel some year ago..
Now it cost 49$ on sale normal price is 249$ i got it for FREE..

But you can say if you dont PAY anything it is sort of a freeware for those who signed up for the giveaway.

I read that you could fill in 0$ on those Soundtoys offers around christmas but i choosed to PAY instead i payed very little but atleast i payed for a good cause..
