Right? This may be useful for me, since I found a long time ago that if I spend too much time on the foundational composition elements I start micro-tweaking them and losing the entire auditory picture that was in my head to begin with. I give myself a window to lay down the foundation, then litely arrange stuff to see what parts of it feel like they're lacking or if the melody lines feel too sparse (or busy,) and go to work experimenting with more (or less,) instruments, layers, or filling effects. It's a back-'n-forth process, but that initial stage of just getting the vybe of the idea out there is critical, at least in my workflow.
