UnderTone Audio UnFairchild 670M mkII v1.0.1 REGGED WiN MAC-BUBBiX screenshot
BUBBiX | 19 September 2024 | 84 MB / 33 MB
This plugin is a painstaking recreation of the coveted Undertone Audio UnFairchild 670M mkII Vari-Mu Compressor.

A design and development collaboration between MIXLAND and Eric Valentine, it is a process that starts with testing and measuring then, listening and experimenting and tweaking and refining over and over and over for over 6 months. The result is a plugin that unquestionably captures the unique vibe and character of the hardware.

Now we can all enjoy the magic and mojo of the classic UnFairchild sound in plugin form.

The features and controls for the UnFairchild 670M II plugin are the same as the hardware, with a few additions. We added an Output Level Control, Wet/Dry Mix control, and an Overall THD control. The Overall THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) control allows you to increase or decrease the amount of UnFairchild style THD character.”

Already got it, by the manufacturer.

Ultramarine has better color, to be honest. But using AA as passthrough with this one doing the compression, is a good combo:)

Midnight - Eclipse mode. Sampled from the same hardware.

agreed. Using AA's pre's or even their compressors just doing 1 db of compression, followed by your favorite algo, is the way to go

arent AA plugins memory hogs though?

They are, that's why we use them here and there:)

CPU not RAM. on 2x Oversampling for both, apparently this plugin uses more CPU than AA Midnight.

Sometimes people do not take into account that hogging any resource is only a problem if their insert bus is overloaded with plugins, which means their resources are already being heavily used. If you look at the buses of pro mixes, you will likely find one or two heavy resource plugins but the buses are not overloaded with plugins and the mixes sound great. Not because of that, but because they know what they are doing for around twenty years or more. They got their education in the real world, not on the Internet. You can probably find some audio they did which has double the number of plugins, but generally, pro-engineers tend to be selective.

Realistically, a compressor plugin on a single bus should not use a ridiculous amount of resources. That should be taken into consideration. This is why a lot of pro-engineers use outboard hardware, and very few use multiple AA or other resource-heavy plugins. You will likely see well under five.

also acustica is mostly impulse based. in my experience irs do a less than ideal job at capturing nonlinear behavior especially when it comes to something like the harmonic saturation of a vacuum tube (10+ of them in this case). using high quality saturation plugins with lots of internal oversampling will get you far closer. trust, spent a whole day trying to recreate the saturation of the unfairchild we have at work. 1 kelvin + 2 ozone exciters each doing a touch got me far closer than any single IR or plugin

Oh hell yeah. Mixland are one of the great up and coming plugin companies, and having Eric Valentine's influence on it is perfect

Great video here by Eric Valentine going in depth with the plugin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4U7grJImpJ0

And quite frankly, it sounds fucking amazing. Can't wait to try it out. Might have a new Goo King. Thanks Bubbix

Move over MagicDeathEye and MDN Sidecar? Lets see...

(EDIT: Ahhh, does anyone have the factory presets? They're not included in this release)

I think all Kiive plugins have the factory presets stored inside the VST3 container.

Came back to try this one for myself after seeing the demo video with Eric Valentine again. Definitely a very a good algo emulation but I still prefer AA Midnight's Eclipse mode over this one.

v1.0.2 is available for download on their site now, with some good improvements. Works with serial still. Also, they dropped the price to $149 but it's $99 introductory price for a short while. They're even offering refunds of the price difference to people that already purchased. Bravo.
y'all got anymore of those plugins??
