UnderTone Audio UnFairchild 670M mkII v1.0 REGGED READ NFO WiN-BUBBiX screenshot
BUBBiX | 16 September 2024 | 78 MB
This plugin is a painstaking recreation of the coveted Undertone Audio UnFairchild 670M mkII Vari-Mu Compressor.

A design and development collaboration between MIXLAND and Eric Valentine, it is a process that starts with testing and measuring then, listening and experimenting and tweaking and refining over and over and over for over 6 months. The result is a plugin that unquestionably captures the unique vibe and character of the hardware.

Now we can all enjoy the magic and mojo of the classic UnFairchild sound in plugin form.

The features and controls for the UnFairchild 670M II plugin are the same as the hardware, with a few additions. We added an Output Level Control, Wet/Dry Mix control, and an Overall THD control. The Overall THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) control allows you to increase or decrease the amount of UnFairchild style THD character.”

Collab with Mixland.... Mixland's plugins are usually made by and with Kiive Audio, same as Purafied, Audioscape and one-two others

Mr. Stevie, I was meaning to ask you, do you happen to know any alternatives for Neold WUNDERLICH ? Specially it's ability "new/old" ?

You meant the "Travel" trim pot ? that feature is likely unique to a design, that feature probably has some other things going on but the main thing is, it's just a high-end roll-off, which simulate how vintage hardware has limited frequency response, early high end rolls of starting as low as 10kHz while the newer modern ones flat till Nyquist. That translated to plugin world is just a low pass filter. For Wunderlich, it's LPF + a slight (1 to 2db) boost in harmonics which is drive from the filter. It's unique design I'd say.

I see the Wunderlich as a tonebox, a stereobus strip, so I think the alternatives :

1. Kush Audio AR-1 - probably the closest I could think of, same tube topology, different vibe
2. Kush Audio Blyss - interesting tone box
3. Plugin Alliance LTL Silverbullet MK2 - no compressor tho, solid state.
4. Arturia BUS Force - a lowkey Overstayer emulation, modern sounding.
5. Kiive Nfuse - modern SSL Fuse
6. Kiive Distinct Pro - also an Overstayer inspired plugin

If you like the "Travel" trim knob in Wunderlich, in these alternative try to find a LPF control and shave off all the high end, it should ideally give close result to what you want. I particularly like those controls on other Neold plugin, U2A which is labeled as "Aging" that does the same thing, just LPF to tighten up the high end from unwanted harmonics there.

Thank you Mr. Steve. Your explanation makes perfect sense. And many thanks for the suggestions, I'll be sure to check them out.

AAX and VST3 in separate folders are fine, there is not needed UnFairchild_1.0.0_Installer.exe at all, waste of size
Archieved the past for the future ..

For the price it should sound like gold. Didn't test it yet though, hahaha.

Thanks so much, Bubbix and SEnki!!

16x oversampling causes massive audio-glitches on my 5900X @44.1kHz (no CPU-Core maxed out). Looks like a bug.

yes, developed by Eddie (Kiive)

coded by Eddie Lucciola that made all the plugins by Mixland, Kiive Audio, Purafied and AudioScape.

I'm big fan of the Mixland Vac Attack and this give similar feelings but with shit tons of controls and options to play with. The original Fairchild presets (1-6) are grabby enough for my liking and I particularly like the VAR modes for the Time Constant, will experiment with that for now to see if I find something I like more.

1. No sidechain filter ?
2. Output control Post-Mix ? Need one pre-Mix as well bruv
3. want that small trim pots to function.

Still buggy here and there.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT : AA Ultramarine is a direct Fairchild emulation, AA Midnight on Eclipse mode is sampled from a UnderTone Audio UnFairchild 670M MKII unit.

Wait, wait, wait… so You telling me that Eddie Lucciola is making all of those plugins but with different company names? Any known reason why? That’s kinda interesting…

it's well known that he's doing plugin for those companies. He's part of Mixland and own the Kiive. Purafied is owned by Sam Pura, a mixer that commissioned him for the plugin version of his fav hardware in his studio. Also making his IR captures of his rooms into a plugin. He's no coder. The other two, Audioscape and UnderTone are hardware makers, got into plugin world and probably commissioned him to do their plugin version of their hardware too. Kiive have released an emulation of Audioscape hardware (ADC1) before, they probably liked it and then start a plugin division after.

Black Salt Audio, owned by a mixer/youtuber Jordan Valeriote (Hardcore Music Studio) commissioned Yum Audio team to make all his plugins. It's a common practice these days.

One funny thing I found is arguably among "the worst plugin ever" (Mixing Night Audio LOL COMP) that had people bashing and laughing about the design was made by the same person that was part of the creation team of some of the best plugins out there in Plugin Alliance bx_townhouse, Fuse Audio VREV63, LTL Silverbullet, SPL Iron to name a few. LINK

Mixing Night Audio is owned by Ken Lewis, who is a mixer. He hired Gary Grutzek to make plugins for him.

This is the first time I hear about this plugin. But I have to admit, this Tube Comp sounds really good. Thank you so much SEnki and BUBBiX!!

Sounds good but extremely heavy on CPU even without oversampling. Sonimus TuCo is less "analog modeled" per say but I think it sounds good and uses barely any CPU.
