Powerful IR Mixer and Tools – Now FREE!
In the world of Fractal Audio’s industry-leading amp modeling, many musicians recognize the importance of Impulse Responses (“IRs”). IRs can be thought of as sonic “captures” – essentially the “frequency fingerprint” of a tone over time. Fractal Audio was the first to allow installable IRs in a guitar product to recreate the sound of a mic’d speaker cabinet, setting a new industry standard. Suddenly, guitarists could encapsulate the essence of a speaker cab in a portable format, enhancing both studio recording and live performance. Now, Cab-Lab 4 with DynaCab™ makes it quicker, easier, more intuitive, and fun to achieve great tone, allowing you to customize and mix IRs yourself.

For decades, guitarists and audio pros have carefully selected, positioned, and mixed microphones on guitar speakers in the pursuit of great tone. Now you can do the same, and it is easier than ever before. With Cab-Lab 4, you get a 4-channel IR mixer, plus tools to EQ, align, and more, so you can select, position, and mix mics while listening in real-time. Meanwhile, new DynaCab technology makes tone sculpting easier than ever, eliminating the need to sift through countless individual IRs. In fact, the DynaCab system in Cab-Lab 4 offers even more resolution and flexibility than our hardware products, with 360° of placement at variable distances, the possibility of additional microphone choices, and more. Best of all, Cab-Lab is now FREE!

Cab-Lab 4 supports our latest DynaCab Packs, as well as traditional single IRs — whether from Fractal Audio legacy cab packs or 3rd party producers. Cab-Lab gives you the tools you need to create your own signature tones—delivering the high quality results you have come to expect from Fractal Audio Systems.

Standalone and Plugin Versions
Cab-Lab 4 comes with both Standalone and Plugin Versions. The Standalone uses your Axe-Fx III, FM9, FM3, or another audio interface so you can monitor in realtime. Meanwhile, the plugin version processes audio in your compatible DAW or host and can be used both to “re-cab” raw amp recordings and export IRs for your Fractal Audio hardware product.

figured that VST3 went to weird place. Mine installed in the 32bit Program Files(x86) VST folder. Dunno if it's the same like others but you have to manually move the VST3 file to the correct location.

No Dynacab included, the IR loader works great as single IR loader though even the relative volume function is kinda annoying to work with. Love the align function.

ah thanks for the tip about the vst3 location

yeah, it's the old IR for Fractal but you can load it as single IR in Cab Lab 4. They sound great though especially the Fenders. Tons of them.

Based on the comments, this is currently "just" a free IR loader. Does it have a feature that makes it stand out from other IR loaders? It's not irony, I'm really interested in the answer.

as 2Caras mentioned, it's main purpose is to be able to load Fractal Dynacab packs and easily mix and match multiple dynacabs and/or regular IR's to create your own blended snapshots.

It's the only real reason they've updated it from Cab Labs 3 so they can sell packs.

The phase alignment with visuals is it's best feature.
Normalising levels is also very cool.

Downsides:
Proprietary output .syx files rather than standard .wav IR files. You can jump through hoops to convert them in a Daw but its an unecessary ballache.

Its mono, so if you like to pan IR's left/right with a touch of phase difference for a pseudo double track you're out of luck.

I'll stick with NadIR and use my ears to phase align :)

Thanks for the reply both of you. Yes, I put the word "just" in quotation marks due to the lack of Dynacab. BUT the phase alignment is a very good feature. However, I'm surprised that it's mono, I didn't expect it, especially since it's an updated plugin. (The .syx export is a minus too.) Because of the phase alignment, I'll probably try it.

You can use two panned instances ... it seems very light on cpu

Are all the cab packs on their site DynaCabs? None of their product pages specify as such and it would suck to buy some and for them to just be plain IRs, of which I have millions by now.

No, they'll specifically state in the description if they are DynaCabs.

My understanding is that the cab packs are in public beta testing atm.

You can find the links to them if you google them, but they are buried away on the Fractal website for now until full release I guess.

Guessing they will get their own category on the Fractal store once they go live.

Ahh that will be why I couldn't see any mention of them.

Not beta, for sale and no one can share theirs

Is it possible to use this vst with any ir or does it works only with fractal format?
  Member 12.01.2021 600

Even if they don't mention any specif formats, at least they say:

Cab-Lab 4 supports our latest DynaCab Packs, as well as traditional single IRs — whether from Fractal Audio legacy cab packs or 3rd party producers.

In the manual they mention wav conversion, so this seems to work.

I still haven't tried this but yes, you can use it as an IR loader for ANY 3rd party wav format IRs. Plus the phase alignment function is very useful. The downside for me: it's mono and you can't export wav, only Fractal's own extension. So you can make good IR combinations with the plugin but if you want to use the result, you can only do it within the plugin because it does not export wav.

OK, thanks for the info. It's not for me then. I need to export the IRs in wav format to use them in other devices, like my Ampero.
