This virtual instrument is based on the Mellotron samples recorded by Taijiguy and brings a total of 23 presets distributed across 5 main instrument categories.

All the samples were slightly edited and most important, were looped for best playability. But even so, the sound remains rough and lo-fi, we wanted to keep the feel and sound of the original instrument.

As an extra, we added 4 original effect layers: vinyl, radio noise, mechanical belt noise, and rain. They each have on/off button and volume sliders, also they’re labeled with their corresponding note on the keyboard.

Moving on to the interface, you’ll find controls such as volume, pan, preset attack/release, also reverb, tune with 3 octaves, LFO modulation, and lowpass/highpass filter cutoff.

Mel-Lofi can be used in Lo-Fi Hip Hop, Ambient, Chillout, Pop, EDM and other similar styles. It is available in VST/VST3 Windows and VST/VST3/AU macOS – compatible with the latest versions, also natively compatible with M1 chips.

I heard that you could record your own sounds on some "Mellotron" tape samplers.

Is that what George Clinton used for the "girl" sounds on Nappy Dugout?

i am also a collector of mellotrons eheheh : )

any help to install this one? Seems to be just a copy and paste, so easy, I put it on an extarnal drive then point Cubase to the directory but it doesnt find it

any idea? thanks

Did you copy the whole 'Mel-Lofi.instruments' folder as well as the Mel-Lofi.vst3 file and placed them in the same folder? The .vst3 has to be outside of the 'Mel-Lofi.instruments' folder, not inside of it.

Place the "Mel-Lofi.instruments" folder on your sample libraries drive and place the AU, VST and/or VST3 plugins in their appropriate folders at:

macOS: HDD/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/ (Components for AU, VST for VST and VST3 for VST3)
Windows VST(2): Program Files/Steinberg/VSTPlugins (or wherever your default VSTPlugins folder is at)
Windows VST3: Program Files/Common Files/VST3

When you load the plugin on a track in your DAW it'll ask for the sample data folder location, simply point it to the "Mel-Lofi.instruments" folder.

The devs distribution model could have been better thought out. If you want all available formats for your chosen OS you end up downloading the sample library 2 (Windows) or 3 (macOS) times (5 times if you want both Windows and macOS versions) when only 1 copy of the sample data is needed for all plugin formats on either OS.

In macOS I moved the VST and VST3 plugin components to the AU folder, renamed the AU folder to just "Mel-Lofi" and compressed it with 7zip. I got the entire package down to just 477.5 MB for all 3 plugin formats. I suppose if I wanted the Windows versions too I'd have to download the sample library another 2 times just to get the Windows VST and VST3 plugin components.

very good sounding brasses, among the best for these kind of plugins, it needs some more tweaks (saturation, ambience) but this is a very useful tool I think

i've tested and i like the many different sounds, but i miss that section where i can add the dirt from worn out tapes and old instruments in bad shape. Which i've thought this vsti would have, because of the "lofi" in its name.
Devs, please add!
