FM8 Akheron is collection of 150 patches for Native Instruments’ FM8 synthesizer.

Aimed at atmospheric film scoring and deep electronica, FM8 Akheron features crisp, metallic leads; powerful, rattling basslines; evocative, crystalline pads; eerie, atonal landscapes; penetrating, dynamic sequences; and huge, noisy basses.

FM synthesis is often seen as convoluted and unwieldy. And it is. However, in producing FM8 Akheron I have realized it is also beautiful and expansive – and hopefully this new soundset provides sonic territory not yet explored with previous The Unfinished releases.

FM8 Akheron provides a wide sonic palette; from dark shadows to incandescent light. There is a haunting fragility and also a brutal strength. It is equally at home in the blood-curdling terror of a horror soundtrack as it is in the luminescent joy of an ambient project.

FM8 Akheron contains sounds in both NFM8 and KSD format. NFM8 is the most up-to-date version of FM8 and utilizes all its most recent upgrades. Whereas KSD format is from an older version of FM8, but is also usable in NI Kore.

150 patches for NI FM8 in .nfm8 and .ksd format.

Everyone else makes a lot of posts but I am slower because my connection isn't as fast so naturally I post and 1 second later you know who posts. I watched that feed for a while before I posted, not a thing came out. I've seen it happen before to Horse, even recently when he posted a sweet release that if i were posting after I would have even waited a while because it was really nice and why not let him get some time to shine on something that he worked hard on. But all of a sudden nothing came out for hours but wham here comes generic sample pack #2, 534. I even made a comment on Horse's post about it, thought it was bullshit someone doing that. Unfortunately not everyone shares the same values. I would never let competition get in the way of my relationships with people. Then again I'm not a cunt.

I've never been a preset guy, but I find myself downloading
all HORiZON latest preset packs, just too good to pass.
I never bought preset packs cause I almost never used 3rd party presets,
but I think now I'll buy a pack from The Unfinished, amazing sound design job

You're always welcome copylefter, glad that I've lured you in because it would be a shame to miss out on these. Yeah I'm very much like you and I generally am not a fan of most sound designers because they make boring generic preset packs but there are some that are of a higher quality and substance. I consider them works of art more than just presets. They are something that you will want in your collection and will find yourself using a lot.

I'm really glad you guys are enjoying the release. I hope it brings you some inspiration for your own music and that everyone has a happy, healthy and safe holiday season.

To anyone that had issues make sure to read the nfo as it has all the information you need. HORiZON go into more depth than most teams so it should be crystal clear if you guys slow down and read. The ksd files only work with versions of FM8 earlier than 1.2.0, the nfm8 files only work with versions of FM8 1.2.0 or greater. Ideally you would want to use the nfm8 files because it's the new format used in the latest FM8 and since there are 150 presets while there are only 128 of the ksds.

Also this is an important note from the PDF which you will surely not read so here:
HINTS & TIPS
A quick tip about the patches that use the arpeggiator in FM8. When browsing through the presets, you will notice that the presets automatically start on the first note of the arpeggiator. All fine and dandy. However, when you use these patches in a project you need to make a slight adjustment in the arpeggiator window. In the Mode tab, the 'Key Sync' button is highlighted. When using the patch in a track, un-click the button. This prevents an issue whereby sometimes the arpeggiator patches miss the first note and then catch-up again by the fifth note. All a bit weird and seemingly a known problem in FM8.

Matt Bowdler is a true sound design master, as Catalyst said, these are far more than mere presets, these are an art form in their own right. I have been wanting this for a very longtime, nothing quite like the sound of FM8. Thanks to everyone involved and Happy Thanksgiving!

You're welcome my friend. I completely agree with you. I think part of it has to do with the highly technical nature of FM synthesis. Mastery of FM is very difficult even for the established producer so I think that is at least partly responsible for the shortage of FM presets. People tend to gravitate towards easier synths and that builds more of a market for presets for them. Hopefully more talented sound designers will pick up the slack because FM8 is an amazing synth capable of very interesting timbres that cannot be achieved in any other way.

I think that the majority of N.I. synths are over looked. It seems that every time a good library comes out for one of the synths everybody all of a sudden remembers that they have it installed and obviously they have no F'ing idea how to use any of them or they would not have forsaken them in the first place. My 2 cents!!
