What would be the fastest and most straight forward path to make a full, updated install of this? Looks like a previous update is required to install this onto. I often threads about the installation of this, it seems to be hard to do.

Not sure I understand your question. You simply double-click on the file, follow the prompts, and voila, you're all set. The "previous update(s)" just came out a few days ago and I recommend installing ALL of them as there are quite a few improvements in Omnisphere AND continuity throughout the Spectrasonics product line is needed for the re-categorization of two folders whose names have been changed.

Here's the order I recommend that you install these recent updates that we were blessed with during the last few days.

1. Omnisphere Software Update 2.5.0d - After you install this, don't forget to patch the Omnisphere dll located in your VST plugins folder by using the file called Spectrasonics_2048_KeyGen.exe.(If you don't already have this file from past Omnisphere offerings, ask Majestic or Olymoon for help.) THEN, copy the now patched Omnisphere dll that's in your VST plugins folder, and paste/replace it in your C:/ProgramData/Spectrasonics/plug-ins/64bit folder. Now see if it works in your DAW and if it DOESN'T, use the Spectrasonics_2048_KeyGen again to authorize it this time as you only patched it before. I lucked out and didn't have to do the authorization part.
2. Omnisphere Soundsource Library Update 2.5.0c
3. Omnisphere Patch Library Update 2.5.0c
4. Bob Moog Tribute Library Update 1.4.0c - Only needed if you have the Bob Moog Tribute Library already installed. You MUST add a period to the file called "InstallationAttributes.dat" BEFORE you install this update so it looks like this: .InstallationAttributes.dat
5. Keyscape Patch Library Update 1.3c - Only needed if you have Keyscape already installed.
6. Trilian Patch Library Update 1.4.7c - Only needed if you have Trilian already installed.
7. Omnisphere Patch Library Update 2.5.1c (This file HERE.)

Thank you for your explanation because this is daunting for noobs. I was confused regarding all these files that are available, because some of them seemed to require earlier versions of the patches in order to install, requiring incremental installation. This doesn't seem to be the case?

Is this correct? - I install the eight DVD set but do NOT apply the R2R keygen yet, becasue FIRST I apply the Omnisphere Software Update 2.5.0d, and only THEN use that keygen (the one that came with the original 8DVD release). Or do I need to keygen the original installation before I apply the 2.5.0d Software Update? And THEN I install the other 6 things which do NOT require any kegenning or k'ing, and then I am up to date?

Also, the "patch and keygen" file doesn't include a patch file. Is the keygen file also something that allows to 'patch'?

No problem. We were ALL noobs at one time and so we've all been frustrated beyond words at one time or another! HaHa!!

Since I upgraded from straight from Omnisphere 1, I pretty much did the incremental update style. But you don't have to necessarily do it that way because all updates are COMPLETE. This means that they possess ALL of the data from the previous updates within them as well. The only reason I might choose to run the keygen before installing the updates is because I'd not want any problems regarding the age (relevancy) of the keygens. In other words, I KNOW a keygen that came with a particular version of software is likely working correctly. But who knows if a newer keygen is gonna work on an older plugin version OR if an older keygen is gonna work on a newer plugin version.

Often, a keygen will also have patching capabilities so if there's no separate patch file included, then the keygen likely patches the file(s) too.

Thank you again. I didn't actually run the keygen yet so I must have missed the patching capabilities.

It would be great if a single software patch would include all previous patch versions. Sou say the patches do include earlier versions, but in the readme file it says: "Requirements: Omnisphere version 2.5.0d or higher". So it looks like, in order to use this patch you need to have patched Omnisphere to 2.5.0d first. And if that means having to apply a dozen or so patches in the correct order then that'd be quite a pain in the arse. That's what made me ask about this in the first place. So I am a bit confused about this.

That's because you're getting confused with the word "patch". It has TWO meanings here so I'll explain. When used in the name "Omnisphere Patch Update", it means instrument PRESET update. Presets are the different sounds(not to be confused with "soundsources") that have been made by the software company, industry-famous designers, and YOU if you change a preset and rename it. So a "patch update" is ONLY adding new PRESETS and not altering the written code of the app.

The other meaning of the word "patch" means to change an application's written CODE. Regarding Spectrasonic's updates, SOFTWARE updates are the ONLY updates that may need to be "patched". That is, to actually have the application file's(in this case, the Omnisphere dll or dynamic link library) CODE changed. You see, sometimes the written code must be changed(often, in ADDITION to using a keygen) and that's called "patching".

I NEVER said that the patches include earlier updates. I said that the UPDATES include previous UPDATES and this is true regardless of which type(software, soundsource, or patch).

I've noticed a huge loading speed improvement after applying this patch. Previously from a 5400 rpm external drive it took close to 10 seconds to switch between presets.

Yes, there was huge preset lag with 2.5 and now it's gone again. Worth it for that alone.

Now if only they could do something about the huge CPU load.

Omnisphere offers 8 channels in one VI instance EACH with 57 full-on FX, LIVE and STACK modes, a granular post-processor, the Orb processor, up to 20 oscillators PER patch, 8 LFO's PER patch, 4 sound layers PER patch, a high-res GUI, 8 independent arpeggiators that LOCK into the groove, etc.

It's impossible to NOT have a huge CPU load when there's a huge load on your CPU. HaHa!!

Considering what Omnisphere is capable of, I would say its general load on the CPU is on the conservative side.

I know - I was half joking. You have to bounce it to audio if you don't want the CPU to be screaming all the time. Though I think I'll run it with Diva in Divine mode and really give it something to think about.
