Spitfire Solo Strings KONTAKT screenshot
KONTAKT | 40 GB
Sometimes you need the intimacy and detail of a single voice to rise above the force of an orchestra. Reach for Spitfire Solo Strings – the all-new accompaniment to your Symphonic and Chamber arsenal, featuring exceptional first-call London virtuosos.

Solo Strings is designed to stand out, but also to fit in: this entirely new library sits perfectly alongside the Spitfire orchestral ranges, utilising the same location, peerless signal chain, mic positions and range of articulations that make up the DNA of our high quality orchestral packages. Single players in the acoustic luxury of the hall at Air Lyndhurst, captured on rich sounding 2” tape.

Solo Strings
Six years ago, Spitfire released Solo Strings, one of our first ever libraries. Since then, we have clocked up over 2,500 hours of sampling experience, so we knew it was time we revisited these essential instruments. They can add individuality and definition to big string writing, as well as capture soaring solos, whether for film, games or pop music. Think of the solo violin in John Williams’ score for Schindler’s List, Fratres by Arvo Pärt, John Corigliano’s Red Violin, or the cello carrying the Game of Thrones theme.

Total Performance
We are proud to announce the inclusion of our brand new, highly intuitive Violin (Virtuoso) Total Performance patch, offering you the most detailed and complete solo performance for the virtuoso violin. Performed by world-renowned virtuoso concert violinist Jack Liebeck, this performance patch is our most advanced and powerful to date. It contains all the techniques you need to create a realistic solo performance — five different types of true legato: Portamento Legato, Fingered Legato, Bowed Legato, Runs and Arpeggios. It also features: spiccato, staccato, tremolo, molto vibrato, progressive vibrato and non vibrato. — all combined together to enable musical phrasing without the need for key-switching, and programmed to react to playing speed and touch. This patch is easy to play and ultra-intuitive, allowing you to focus entirely on your composition, without the need for ‘stitching’ together performances.

* Requires KONTAKT v5.6.8 or higher
** Tested with KONTAKT v5.7.3

Guys, i need to write a piece for when my chickens are laying eggs. Lot's of violins with an arpeggiated bass, to help them keep the flow, while pushing the egg outside.

Are the samples ok ?

On a side note, how do the crackers/reversers know there is nothing left on the code, that could compromise the buyer ? Because for sure, all samples have probably 1-100 samples long characters embedded in the spectrogram display, in zones of frequencies that will be used in the project and not removed, let's say, if a particular instrument plays 'best' between 500 and 800hz, there are chances the spectrum 'logo' or 'char' will be drawn/written inside that area, even with several mixes, effects, the spectrogram signal should still exist. ..
Of course, if the char or logo was written at 8500hz or 250hz, there are chances the user would apply low/highpass filters....

Because the guy that buys a 1'000 bucks library from a big name that has 50 lawyers ready to bite and tell a guy clean it, and share, to 50,100, 300'000 people..... well, that buyer, he must have a GIGANTIC pair of 2kgs BALLS

Are the samples ok ?

Seem to be! With all mics, the virtuoso legato does seem to break one of my (old) toaster PCs, tho :O it's only freaking samples ffs! (Literally worse than DIVA!) Anyway, I'm prolly doing smthn wrong...

On a side note, how do the crackers/reversers know there is nothing left on the code, that could compromise the buyer ?

Buy two copies. FIle compare.
Thx to anybody posting Spitfire / OTB libs!

After having a look at it:
I would say it's disappointing but what could we expect from SF?
There are scripting issues here and there: interference in overlapping layers; options presets and articulations without sound (and without colored range of keys); legato patches have only one vibrato layer that is too strong, when long articulations have two vibrato layers, and the slower fits better but this is the one that's missing for legato.
Violin Virtuoso Total Performance patch is hardly playable in a less powerful configuration, as it spikes at every transition of notes. However Kontakt doesn't complain about CPU or disk usage.
Viola legato patch sounds tremolo if you put vibrato to zero, first I thought it might be a feature but in cello patch it doesn't do the same. And in cello legato the non-vib sound has a too long reverb tail, so if there's a shorter note, it sounds as played in a bathroom.
If it's an ensemble library, you can live with many of these issues, but we're speaking about a solo strings library where the sound must be more detailed, you can't substitute or hide issues with other sound.

Don't miss my previous comment with more detailed review.

Do you have other library recommendations? Thanks

it's difficult because it depends on your taste and needs.
The best sounding and in the same time easily playable solo violin is the Joshua Bell Violin from Embertone. But it's not on this site anymore (perhaps you find it somewhere else on the internet). Also good by the same company is the Fischer Viola (and isn't here anymore).
Cinesamples has Tina Guo Cello that sounds really good.
Best Service has good alternatives with its Chris Hein Solo Strings collection. Its violin might not sound that good (the others do) but at least it's easily playable. They also have Emotional Violin and Emotional Cello.
Orchestral Tools is a top contender about orchestral libraries, unfortunately their solo strings instruments (Nocturne Violin and Cello) didn't sound as good as their others. The Berlin Strings EXP D First Chairs is better but it's a bit heavy, over 30GB.
8dio also had some good sounding alternatives, mainly the Adagio Strings but can't find them here anymore.

Edit: I apologize to Audiobro for not mentioning their renowned library, LASS (L. A. Scoring Strings) that is my all time favourite due to it's unique divisi scripting technic (that they've purchased from an independent developer who thus gave them the exclusive rights). It also has first chair instruments that can serve as solo strings.

this one isn't bad, but not great. if the solos you write are mixed well with other orchestrations, the flaws in this lib aren't quite as obvious. but like others have reported, the seams between legato notes make it sound rather artificial imo so if your music required a solot without other instrumentation to mask the problems, then this would not be the lib to use i think. seems like for all the money spitfire makes off their products they could have invested in studying how the competition does it and then make their soloist libs better than that. so for now, the embertone or chris hein solo ones(tina guo cello one is also good) remain the best, imo.
make music, not walls.

I was wondering what was so special about this library, after reading several of the reviews from other members and reviewing the demos I was not sure about downloading this.It is good but, I am content with my other string library including Chris Hein, OT.8Dio,Tina and a several others that I have. Thank you for giving us the chance to try this out. Peace.

I didn't know that a dial-up type of internet connection from the '90s still exists. :)
Anyway, it's worth the testing, so you can appreciate more your other previously gotten libraries. SF libraries have a really nice and rich soundscape that's why everyone gets so enchanted of the demos but they don't know how to script a more realistic legato, so they try to compensate it with zillion number of mic positions and insane variety of articulations. And not to mention about the forced necessity to create multiple mutations of their existing libraries.

If you really want to hear (and see) what this library is capable of, check out the demos, including this brilliant piece on YouTube which highlights the Violin and shows the MIDI screenflow as it plays.
Spitfire
Libraries like these sometimes take some time to learn the techniques to make them sound great. Just like practicing your instrument, you can't expect it to sound great until you've put some time into it.

The problem with these libraries is that your creativity is limited and forced to the library's comfort zone and you have to avoid articulations and the way of freely composing that don't suite with the library due to its badly sounding transitions or other issues.
Demos have to hide the weaknesses of the library and you can create cool peaces but will be always lead by the library and not by your own ideas/creativity.
That's why you can hear short articulations in arpeggio dominating tv commercials and even soundtracks because that's what sounds the most realistic even in the shittiest libraries.
Obviously these virtual instruments have been influencing the composers' style in the last 2-3 decades.

You need to add the library in Kontakt with 5.6.0 Standalone. Then change the SNPID number to P92 inthe .xml file created by Kontakt in the Service Center folder.
See the instructions here

Try adding library? =) it's on the manage library tab. I'd recd using K ~5.81 like I did, give a bit more "compatibility" when batch save or w/e. I don't think ur req'd to use K6.

Hi I don't mean to be that guy, but I never understood why this site doesn't upload torrents? Unless everyone has premium uploaded and rapidgator accounts (which seems highly unlikely) downloading 40 gbs from these sites with free downloading would take days and a great internet connection.

Wouldn't it not only be easier for everyone but quicker and less painless to upload torrents? And if I am speaking out of line then excuse my ignorance I just don't quite understand because it seems to make the most sense to me
