Sometimes you need the intimacy and detail of a single voice to rise above the force of an orchestra. Reach for Spitfire Solo Strings – the all-new accompaniment to your Symphonic and Chamber arsenal, featuring exceptional first-call London virtuosos.

Solo Strings is designed to stand out, but also to fit in: this entirely new library sits perfectly alongside the Spitfire orchestral ranges, utilising the same location, peerless signal chain, mic positions and range of articulations that make up the DNA of our high quality orchestral packages. Single players in the acoustic luxury of the hall at Air Lyndhurst, captured on rich sounding 2” tape.

Solo Strings
Six years ago, Spitfire released Solo Strings, one of our first ever libraries. Since then, we have clocked up over 2,500 hours of sampling experience, so we knew it was time we revisited these essential instruments. They can add individuality and definition to big string writing, as well as capture soaring solos, whether for film, games or pop music. Think of the solo violin in John Williams’ score for Schindler’s List, Fratres by Arvo Pärt, John Corigliano’s Red Violin, or the cello carrying the Game of Thrones theme.

Total Performance
We are proud to announce the inclusion of our brand new, highly intuitive Violin (Virtuoso) Total Performance patch, offering you the most detailed and complete solo performance for the virtuoso violin. Performed by world-renowned virtuoso concert violinist Jack Liebeck, this performance patch is our most advanced and powerful to date. It contains all the techniques you need to create a realistic solo performance — five different types of true legato: Portamento Legato, Fingered Legato, Bowed Legato, Runs and Arpeggios. It also features: spiccato, staccato, tremolo, molto vibrato, progressive vibrato and non vibrato. — all combined together to enable musical phrasing without the need for key-switching, and programmed to react to playing speed and touch. This patch is easy to play and ultra-intuitive, allowing you to focus entirely on your composition, without the need for ‘stitching’ together performances.

* Requires KONTAKT v5.6.8 or higher

Surely there´s a bunch of new patches and stuff!

Samples has been recorded from scratch - has nothing to do with the old version.

The old version was about 7 gb ..... this one is nearly 40 gb.

I just finished a quick but detailed test between the two libraries and can tell you that this statement is utterly untrue! They used the old samples 100%, just positioned them differently with reverb. Corrected some badly sounded attacks retouching it synthetically, they could have recorded a second bowing sample for the notes but I doubt based on their history, most likely they just used samples of other notes detuned). At vibrato they softened the attack and retouched the long note (in the way like changing the order of words in a sentence).
It's impressive how they are able to recycle their old stuff but they should not lie about it.
There isn't even any newly recorded articulation. ANY! There are new patches like trills but they created it from sample parts of existing samples. You can easily hear it, that's so funny.
So, is it better than the old one? Probably yes, they corrected the sound but if you do this comparison, you will realize how their samples are totally synthetic and not real recordings, especially speaking of the trills.
Oh, and what bugs me the most is the "close mic", we always complained about Spitfire milking customers with 5-6 mic positions. Well, not in this library. They recorded only one mic position and tried to cheat. Here the close mic is just a mono version (in stereo channel panned out slightly from centre) of the recorded tree mic, and just used more reverb for the far position.

Wow, if what you say is true, this is really bad ! what strings would you recommend ? I'm stuck with L.A strings but it needs lot of work on it to get a nice space. thx

No, it doesn't sound bad, they improved from the old one in some aspects. It's just not true that they recorded it from scratch.
About strings ensemble the old rule is trying to blend more libraries. About solo this is more difficult. None of them is perfect. If you want a real sound, contract good musicians and a recording studio.

WHAT'S NEW?
Everything! We’ve recorded entirely new samples, updated scripting and created a cleaner and easier to use GUI, all of which is presented as an NKS compatible Kontakt Player library. And unlike our old Solo Strings library, this product also includes double bass, and three different violin styles - Virtuoso, 1st Desk and Progressive - each with their own unique articulations.

Which I like the most is by Homay Schmitz. That music sounds as beautiful as she is, you know that pretty girl from SF introductory videos.

The SLCO St(r)ings was a joke but this one sounds promising.

seems like these companies have to make libs that are 20-40 gigs + these days - bloated with all kinds of extra mics etc. or otherwise people won't take it seriously. as if, the bigger the lib, the more serious and better it is...

Actually, there are quite a lot of options nowadays and you don't have to get a lot of large(20-40GB) libraries UNLESS you're scoring. If you're scoring, you can get away with two fairly large libraries per orchestra type(1 solo and 1 ensemble for brass, 1 solo and 1 ensemble for strings, etc.). But to REALLY do proper scoring, you're gonna need MULTIPLE libraries from MULTIPLE plugin developers because NO library ALWAYS sounds good in the mix. You're gonna OFTEN have to layer this viola with that viola and this oboe with that oboe to get the right sound. Also, the extra mics give you a better chance of getting the right sound you need in the mix. And really smooth legatos and other articulations USUALLY require some gigs, but the scripting is getting better and better making for the possibility of smaller libraries.

I seriously doubt that any developer is PURPOSELY making their libraries large just to appear "more serious", but we all know that it IS possible. If your competitor puts out a solo woodwind library that's 47 GB and your solo woodwind library is only 15 GB, you very well might seem incomplete to a potential buyer.
Learn how to make tight, radio-ready mixes with the STOCK plugins in your DAW. After that, THEN you can horde out!

WOW! Thanks Funtime!!! Although...I might hold off downloading this one for the ceremonious-inevitable 'repack or fix'... (he-he)
illegal downloading and home taping is ruining the major music industry... keep up the good work!
