It is true with 24bits (or 32bits Float) we have more headroom for digital sound processing (for instance in a DAW with plugins). However, when it comes down to samples, there's virtually no benefit because most of sound libraries out there don't use more than 96db dynamic range.

For instance, most of sample library only have few dynamic layer (probably 2 or 4 for this kind of library), 6 or 8 for some larger library from the big names developers. Which means, the recorded dynamic is limited and will be perfectly reproduced with a 16 bits system.

To really need a higher resolution, you will need to actually record and sample samples with a dynamic range over 96db. For instance a huge orchestral fade in or fade out. If you want Orchestral sound that goes from ppp to fff, it will be done by multiple recording, and therefor it could be handle with 16 bits samples (and a good sample management).

Most of music we do listen today aren't using much more than 8 or 10 bits in Audio Dynamic (and even less for electronic music).

It is very important to understand how it works to realise there's no need for 32 bits (and surely not 64 bits). That's the reason why the internal Korg, Roland, Kurzweil and Yamaha samples are still in 16 bits, including in their very last keyboards.

PS: And keep using your DAW in 24bits or 32bits float for a better overall dynamic. A 24bits DAW can easily play 16bits samples without any trouble

Save yourself time, batch convert won't bring anything (if adding 0 for the 8 additional bits). You won't get any better sound, it will just take more space on your drive and memory.

To understand that, imagine you have 1,599 dollars. Now if I tell you that you will now have $1,599.00, you won't be any richer, right? And now if you will have : $0,000,001,599 you still won't be any richer. You will only convert the format, but not the value :)
