I wouldn't. To my ears, Wavefactory Mercury still is the best since it can be both warm and intimate and punchy and dance-worthy at the same time. Usually it's only one or the other.

I listened to the audio demos, my only issue with wavefactory mercury is, the sustain notes fall off rather quickly. Im not familiar with the piano they sampled, maybe that is how this particular real piano model works.

One of the major issues with piano libraries for me is, people dont know how to mic them. If I am hearing mechanical noise (ie. the thumping sound of the hammers striking the strings), most notable in the higher notes in most libraries, that is a huge turn-off.

I am a pianist, Im familiar with the Yamaha C7 and Steinway D models, as well as the Bosendorfer pianos and the major thing I can tell you about these 3 model pianos over other sampled pianos is the frequency response and the amount of time a string will produce sound after striking a note is staggering. On any of these pianos, when striking a note, the string will produce audible sound for upwards of 45 seconds to a minute, Add to that string and body resonance aiding in the creation of many harmonic tones, these elements are very difficult to capture. Most speaker systems arent able to reproduce them. Most microphone cant even pick all of them up. However, stand next to a pianist playing a C7 or D class and you will hear them. These libraries are getting closer, but still arent there yet.

The only piano library I have is the Hans Zimmer library, not because its particularly good, but because it was decent. To my ears, Vienna's newly released Steinway D and Yamaha C7 are amazingly detailed. Are they perfect? No. However, they are very detailed. I havent listened to the production voices library yet, will listen later. The Hammersmith library that was touted as being one of the best, suffers from hammer noise, so, no thanks.

Ok, I finally tried it. As expected, it's really bright. It cuts through the mix. But I didn't enjoy to play with it, the sound was cold and mechanical. It lacks of expressiveness compared to other libraries. The highest part of the keyboard sounds a bit weird as well, so thin... I didn't keep it, because I don't like to play music with it. Thanks again for giving the opportunity to test it.

Yeah, it does sound quite weird, to me, too. Dynamics are pretty good. Lots of mics. Difficult to put ur finger on it, rly; just all the elements seem to have been recorded separately, anechoically & stuffed together, or something. That's prolly not how it was recorded >__> <__< probably.
Thx to anybody posting Spitfire / OTB libs!

Though pretty late, I might add that this is the Grand 2 GOLD not Platinum.
The Platinum is 246 GB uncompressed!
You only live once and that's forever.
