The blurbs for many packs make me wonder if anyone ever reads them and thinks "Damn. I *really gotta get this pack/VSTi or I won't be able to make dope beats." XD
Being relevant or trendy is overrated anyway; remember when producers weren't Rock Stars, they were just reclusive artists? I am the latter. :)
Thanks anyway, Fantastic. :)

People with limited or no talent and/or really trendy, impressionable people really DO fall victim to marketing and advertising strategies that use principles of psychology, sociology, statistics, history, and economics to compel consumers to buy their products. One of the many ills of capitalism is the fact that it creates societies wherein money QUICKLY becomes more important than ANYTHING, including human life. This eventually degrades and ultimately dissolves any and all attempts to practice morality and decency. At this point, things like TELLING THE TRUTH, HONOR, and INTEGRITY become unimportant and abandoned unless they can increase profits in some way, shape, or form.

A very famous hip-Hop producer once told me that one should NEVER use drum sounds from sample packs UNLESS they're going to layer them or mangle them fairly extensively. He also said that he had stopped using free market loops pretty early in his developmental period on the advice of another very famous Hip-Hop producer. He said he would make his own loops by playing parts by hand, using minimal or no quantization, and then adding fx to "age" the drums if necessary. I also adopted this practice. This was back in '96 at a Jack The Rapper convention. You can definitely sell beats in your neighborhood using stock hits and loops, but you'll NEVER be the next "NEW THING" unless you use your OWN sounds and sensibilities. JUST DO IT, you'll be fine no matter WHAT your sounds end up sounding like because they'll be NEW and THAT'S what Americans are always obsessed with. Hell, people are purposely crushing bits, adding massive amounts of distortion and saturation , and anything you can imagine. If you know how to engineer, then you'll know the limits that you can go to without destroying people's speakers. This is why the BEST songwriter/producers are also competent engineers. We know how to create and/or choose sounds that don't take hours or even DAYS to properly fit into a mix.

My goodness, it's 2018!!! Wow friends, time is fucking flying by so fast that it's literally making me DIZZY just thinking about it....

It's pretty rare I have a drum hit that doesn't have three layers, Aesop, even if one or two of them are barely audible. Highly EQ-ed foley hits at low volume levels in a layered hit are a ton of fun to fuck around with; and even though everyone loves the TR-808 & TR-909's I really like the criminally underrated TR-505 for a layer in some of my hits. People think it's odd that I'll grab a Loop Loft or a Drumdrops pack and then turn around and mix them up with a Boom Bap Labs or a Beat Butcha pack, but I find polar opposite kits can yield more unique tones/timbres....emphasis on "can." Some sounds do not play well with others.
