My brother gave me a beautiful kalimba for Christmas. Of course, the first thing that came to my mind was to sample it. Said and done! I sampled the 10 tone kalimba with up to 6 velocity layers and stretched the samples to get over two octaves. In addition to the sampled kalimba, I came up with an arpeggiator engine to create inspirational and atmospheric patterns.

Hi, I made this instrument a couple of years ago. I wanted to try the entire process of sampling drum instrument. My old friend Michal Zubaty provided his own drum kit that he plays. I recorded his drum kit with his settings and tuning in a small room covered by a lot of carpets, blankets and acoustic panels to get tight, vintage, raw sound. I also used non-traditional mic settings – two mics in front of the drums. The first mic (Front MONO) is below and captures dense frequencies.

Following my Soft String Spurs project and my Isolation Collaboration, he proposed we do a similar thing but on a grand scale, with a full orchestra. The resultant library features over 600 combined recordings from over 40 players, in the shape of a Kontakt 5 and DecentSampler virtual instruments.
