What is it?
This tube preamp emulation has been developed Philipp Bulling as a thesis work. Philipp has been offering the plugin in VST format for some time on his own website. He has now moved on to new areas for some time already but didn’t want to let down his users. Hence, DDMF took over the code and will continue to offer the plugin as freeware, with the intent to further improve it and maybe add some more bells and whistles in the future.

Clon Minotaur Transparent Overdrive is modeled on The Klon Centaur* a guitar overdrive pedal developed between 1990 and 1994. The Clon Minotaur is characterized as a "transparent" overdrive, meaning it adds gain to the signal without significantly altering the tone of the guitar. Depending on the settings of the control knobs, the Clon Minotaur Transparent Overdrive can act mostly as a clean boost, adding mostly volume and minimal coloring to the sound. This can be used to drive the input valve stage of the virtual amplifier to use the characteristic distortion sound of an overdriven guitar amp.

It contains 72 analog synth shots, which have all been tuned to C, so you don’t need to spend any time figuring out the right key. They’ve been rendered in multiple octaves and went from my hardware synths straight through an analog signal chain. Furthermore, I processed some of my favorite Deep House drum hits using the same gear.
