Masterclass Hans Zimmer Teaches Film Scoring TUTORiAL-SYNTHiC4TE screenshot
SYNTHiC4TE | March 09 2017 | 5.99 GB
Tell a story with music

Hans Zimmer didn’t see a film until he was 12 years old. Since then, he’s scored over 150 films, including Inception, The Lion King, and The Dark Knight. In his MasterClass, the self-taught Academy Award winner teaches how he creates sounds from nothing, composes compelling character themes, and scores a movie before ever seeing it. By the end, you’ll have everything you need to tell your story.

Hans Zimmer teaches you how to tell a story with music in 30+ exclusive video lessons.

You forgot this little thing called talent.

It doesn't matter how much you study if you are not talented.

maybe not everybody can be born with the brain(or upbringing) of motzart, beethoven, david bowie, or richard d james. but with enough dedication, practice, study, and fucking hard work(listening to a fuck ton of music and experimenting with ideas as daily religion) - anybody could do great work after about 5-10 years of doing this self regimented learning. i believe that is what we are all here working to ultimately achieve - our own level of greatness... whether it's with film sound track, hip hop, EDM or whatever.

now how much effort and work a person wants to put in every day towards becoming great at what they want to be great at - that is what will really truly set them a part in the end.

You forgot this little thing called talent.

It doesn't matter how much you study if you are not talented. Zimmer was lucky enough to be very talented.

Define talent, please.
This kind of theory is saying that some of us are born with something and other are not ...
That reminds me some dictatorship thinking.

But what you forget is the ability to sell yourself and opportunism, these are required qualities to acquire now a day if you want to be successful in music business.

Talent refers to some natural aptitude or ability that you may have.

You can of course develop these but some people like Beethoven or Mozart were born with some specific skills that they didn't really need to develop. Or, put an other way, their aptitude were much more developed than other people at the same age.

Another example would be someone able to learn and speak a foreign language much faster than other people. It doesn't mean that the other people wouldn't be able to learn this new language, it only means that this person, due to some inner set of skills will apprehend the new language much faster.

In the same way, some people might be good at mathematics without the need to study too much while others will have to invest a lot of time in order to reach a similar level. It doesn't mean that the person supposedly talented is superior to the others, it only means that this person had some natural ability that allowed her to grasp some key concept much faster than the others, making it look like something natural.

- motzart, beethoven = true prodigy talent brains. compared to them, neither you, nor i (or probably most everybody else here) are actually "talented" then. the reality: talent comes in many flavors and levels and can be developed. but your level/idea of talent may not be as good (or maybe it's better) than my level of talent... but neither of our talent levels are as good as motzart's or hanz's, according to the world's opinion of what is talent (which is constantly changing - van ghoe was considered a shit painter in his life. now he's considered a mad genius). or maybe our talent level's are better than theirs but our social abilities suck (or simply: it is damn hard to become discovered these days as a "talent" without being good at socializing or having grown up in the right place). you see, beyond just having been born with a special brain, there's so much more involved in a "talented" person becoming known that they are even talented. i bet if motzart wasn't born in the time or place he was, he would have not been discovered or nurtured by others around him to becoming as great as he was. i also guarantee that motzart was copying so much other music he was taught as a child (and then resynthesizing the notes in a different, more better way). all the greats - i mean, every artist starts out as a copycat. their social upbringing(plus their own internal chemical makeup - and will to want to do it every day because it makes them feel good) guides them into their greatness.

In music it is always that they where born with perfect pitch
Mozart also had photographic memory and didnt need to redo his works like Beethoven did.
I dont know if that is talent but they also worked very hard and Mozart was trained very hard from a very young age he didnt have a "normal childhood" do you think he would have composed equally good operas concertos etc if he didnt have those 1000,s and 1000,s hours of training?.
I am not so sure.
Its the same with Beethoven
Oh yeah they didnt have lots of other stuff around them like TV and other things that would interrupt the daily training.
Also it seems like within the western music everything is also invented so new classical composers sound like shit and very unmusical when they try to compose something new.

Since his point was college, putting college into the equation won't solve talent as well.

Despite all that, talent is something subjective, it's hard to distinguish after years of focus and passion towards something. If you are self taught like Hans, ofc nobody's saying you'll be the next Hans but you can get on a comfort level just as much as you'd get if you were to go to college for that area.
