Sometimes I wonder if people like Fab laugh on the inside when folks eat this crap up. Its one thing to make videos of mediocre mixing techniques, thats right, mediocre! But selling protools and an Apollo as a complete magic mixing combo is something else. These dudes aren't stupid, revealing the advanced wizardry that pro mixing engineers possess would be blasphemy within their circle in my opinion. Why do you think that almost every mixing tutorial or book revolve around the same concepts? I'm probably over seeing things, but thats just what I've come up from the tuts and books I've come across. Either way, its all about practice,practice, practice......................................................good instruments, great musicians, good mics, awesome preamps, crazy cool outboard gear, sweet studio monitors, decent D/A converters, we could go on for a while LMAO. Or we can just get an Apollo and Protools

So, from you guys perspective and OPINIONS, Fab Dupont doesn't know a thing or two about mixing? Even with his awards, accomplishments, success and experience?
Damn, and here I am thinking that I could grab a tip or two from him. What you guys say, skip him, right?
So, when any of you coming up with some tutorials? That would be helpful to see how you guys do it in your studios.

Right? I mean, someone needs to call that guy out. Like all the glory reviews and demonstration of what the Apollo can do is false, right? Dupont is a fool to think experts on Audioz would believe that it all can be done the way he demonstrate, right?
Damn, all these audio magazine and other engineers are selling us B.S. too.

I know, I know... I can't be fooled by Dupont or any other highly recognizable engineer in the industry, because all the experts on Audioz will always let me know when the engineers suck, when the DAW suck, when the Apollo fart.

it's not about his skills, I know he is good due to his owning and having the luck to learn on higher end gear some of which I or any of you will ever touch!!

The problem is the video itself, I will record a band with my Edirol Fa101 and get the same shit he is getting so WTF is so important about this video?

We all know that those tracks are processed after in a console NOT STRAIGHT FROM THIS "GOD APOLLO" Interface.

The problem I have is why he is showing this shit, when they process the tracks in post before putting you see hime working on them.

I do this in post when doing desktop demos of tracks mixing for myself for future references. I process the tracks including the vocal.

The cool thing would be NO POST like I did once and it was about 30 minutes to clean , comp. gate and general mixing of a 10 track mix including the narrated vocal. that was 30 minutes alone to just get everything lined up, cleaned up, leveling, compress the mix and so fourth


There is no magic button

Primary mix : Record then GATE, EQ, COMPRESS, EQ

all other stuff is addons.

That mix would take hours since they are no isolated, so it takes longer to clean up the tracks, unless you are going for a live NON Studio sound

That is what I hate about these videos, if you are in a studio THEN WTF ARE YOU DOING A LIVE TYPE SOUND FOR!! Go into a hall a record!!.

OK, guys, I understand and see your take from this particular video (I watched the whole thing). I agree with almost of what you guys saying. Obviously, yes, there's no way that all that work was done in such a little amount of time. A good part of the work and post are left out of the video.
In my opinion, these type of videos which plays more like a summary/round up then a start to finish process are not to be taking in a way we feel that would get 100% ideas and do the same. As a matter of fact, this video is somehow limited and would be interesting to people who are on PT and are using the UAD line. I think for people who own such piece of gears then obviously we can pick up a lot of tips from it, more on the engineer side.

The reason I was being sarcastic and sort of defending Dupont is that for a moment it felt from your very first postings that you were actually bashing him (as in his knowledge) and his choice of gears/DAW (At least that's how the first postings felt like for me). However, I do get you guys point now on the whole video and how it was produced and presented; It is indeed sort of too compact.

Guys did you notice that Fab has built himself a nice wooden case for his Apollo, with handles on either side?! You've got to admit Fab is a talented little fruit!!

get past the gloss guys... and consider the positives here

Fab is great at

1) getting you to think about engineering techniques, and to LISTEN to the subtleties and subjective approach he uses. I for one really like that.
2) helping you to understand why certain tools and techniques are used to help shape a great sound
3) pushing you to trust your judgement through all of the above

Ok, so it's painly obvious that he's paid to promote certain tools/daw's etc, but you'd have to be pig stupid to not know that anyway..

Did you bother to watch his other videos, short, sweet and packed with great tips on what to do and how to listen for certain things, his description of sound whilst demonstrating is better that any other tutorials i've seen, and I have have seen most !
