Dang, I was about to freak out, thinking it's been released to VST.
Damn, this has to be the best sampler right now.

Grain is by far not the best sampler.
It's not a sampler it's a granular engine anyway.
There is no device in whole Reason that can play a sample in a different pitch without affecting the playback speed.
Take a look at Kontakt sampler that has Time Machine Pro algorhythm that can do this or Serato Sample that has "pitch 'n time".
A pitch 'n time feature in Reason has been requested for many many years but it's either Propellerhead Software is stupidly stubborn and does not listen to customers requests or they are not capable of coding it properly.

The devs at propelleeheads are capable of coding amazing instruments, plugins..and much more. ..
Reason effects were coded to use the least cpu as possible. That's why the old delays and reverbs still exist, in R10.... backwards compatibility not being the only reason why they exist:
Those effects probably use 0.000001% of a modern cpu.

I'm sure they could code a pitch shifting algorithm in 5 minutes. The problem is, that algo will need some cpu. And once they release it, users will start asking 'ohh, it would be great, too have the whole project follow a particular scale, note, pitch..
Suddenly, the reason engine will have to apply pitch shifting /time stretching in real time, to hundreds and hundreds of small audio files.

Most reason users think they have unlimited resources, as all effects of instruments were perfectly optimized to consume very little cpu..

Suddenly, they would get 'sorry, you only have 5% cpu left. Please, remove this or that effect/instrument'

That's i think the reason why they don't code it is not a question of knowing how to do it... but rather ..they don't want it. ..
They also don't want to be dependent on the elastik standard...and have to pay royalties to zplane.

"The problem is, that algo will need some cpu"
Well, everything needs CPU.
Why are other developers able to create it??
I doubt the CPU thing.. let's test if Native Instruments Kontakt Time Machine Pro or Serato Sample really raises CPU usage.

An easy solution for Propellerhead Software would be implement the decent SDK from ZPLANE (also used by Ableton, Native Instruments, Steinberg, Sony, etc.)

If you ask me "What is the best sampler (vst)?" i would recommend Serato Sample for now.
I can't think of any other sampler that competes with it (as of today).
