Sound On Sound May 2011 [AdFree] screenshot
Here we are again with another "AdFree by Caithleann" issue. This month our benefactor decided to reduce the size of the mag in a major way and yet it is still reasonable quality.

SOS is getting more popular, this time I had to cull 65 full ad pages and at least 15 half ad pages. That's EIGHTY (80) pages of crapology folks. And as once again very obvious, all that BS comprises two thirds of the original download... Bwech!

So, here is "da beef" in a tidy 10 MB package, one eighth the size of my previous output. Very nice!

Apologies to all, there was a page missing in the previous upload, and that is now corrected. Thanks for your sharp eye, Metalf! :)

Thank you! wink

I think the quality is more than enough for reading. You can see at the pictures, that it's not the same quality like the past (much bigger) releases, but the text is just as clear, so it's not a problem.

Thank you. The quality is enough to read but pictures are not clean. Pictures are important to but I think that it's good. Perhaps better quality will be publish soon. Thanks Caithleann for you work :)

@Biodigitzman - You can't be a musician if you say that!

@Gulliver - The text is the same as in the previous releases because they are actual fonts, not images. Fonts are vector based so they can become as small or as large as your reader is capable of displaying.

This issue comes from the same source as the 6 previous issues. He decided to reduce the file size. Going from 170 MB down to 30 Mb is a bit steep, I agree but I believe that the hardware photos are reasonable. The only images that have visibly deteriorated are the screenshots in articles.

@Caithleann: Can't thank you enough! Looking forward to same reduced size for future issues.

I think there is a page missing between 98 and 104, the Wave Rider article has no beginning.

Thanks for the explanation. So that's the main difference between a version which has been scanned, because there the text would deteriorate as well, right?

metalf, thank you for noticing. I have corrected the omission and an updated file is available at the opening post now. Thanks!

@Gulliver, yep, that is the difference between a scanned PDF a.k.a. an image PDF versus a Text PDF. In the case of a full issue of SOS with all its image heavy advertising (a single page can be 1 MB by itself) that difference is not quite as noticeable in file size but it is quite significant with text only PDFs versus a scanned version of such a PDF... I have text PDFs of 1200 pages that are not bigger than about 10 MB yet the same work as an image PDF can easily eat up between 150 and 200 MB, depending on how high or low the quality and/or compression settings.

For the blind bats amongst some of the readers. The password is IN the opening post. Please use your eyes @ 100% capacity and don't send PMs asking for the obvious. Thanks :)
