J. S. Bach for Electric Guitar MP3 & PDF screenshot
Unlike many Bach editions for guitar, these transcriptions are meant to be performed using a pick. Although a few of the pieces may be played on a standard acoustic guitar, most require an electric guitar or a guitar with a cutaway. All pieces are in the original keys and their ranges may require notes as high as the twenty-second fret. Written in notation and tablature, these six pieces make great sight reading exercises. The included CD will prove an asset in learning these often challenging pieces.

The Quilting Points of Musical Modernism: Revolution, Reaction, and William Walton by J. P. E. Harper-Scott screenshot
English | Publisher: Cambridge University Press, 2012 | 301 Pages | PDF | 3 MB
Modernism is both a contested aesthetic category and a powerful political statement. Modernist music was condemned as degenerate by the Nazis and forcibly replaced by socialist realism under the Soviets. Sympathetic philosophers and critics have interpreted it as a vital intellectual defence against totalitarianism, yet some American critics consider it elitist, undemocratic and even unnatural.

The Piano: An Encyclopedia (Encyclopedia of Keyboard Instruments) 2nd Edition by Robert Palmieri screenshot
English | Publisher: Routledge, 2005 | 528 Pages | PDF | 7 MB
The Piano: An Encyclopedia was selected in its first edition as a Choice Outstanding Book and remains a fascinating and unparalleled reference work. The instrument has been at the center of music history with even composers of large symphonic work asserting that they do not write anything without sketching it out first on a piano; its limitations and expressive capacity have done much to shape the contours of the western musical idiom.

The People's Artist: Prokofiev's Soviet Years by Simon Morrison screenshot
English | Publisher: Oxford University Press, 2009 | 520 Pages | PDF | 3,6 MB
A study in contrasts, the career of Sergey Prokofiev spanned the globe, leaving him witness to the most significant political and historical events of the first half of the twentieth century. In 1918, after completing a program of studies at the St. Petersburg conservatory, Prokofiev escaped Russia for the United States and later France where, like most émigré artists of the time, he made Paris his home. During these hectic years, he composed three ballets and three operas, fulfilled recording contracts, and played recitals of tempestuous music. Scores were stored in suitcases, scenarios and librettos drafted on hotel letterhead.

The Mostly Mozart Guide to Mozart by Carl Vigeland screenshot
English | Publisher: Wiley, 2009 | 258 Pages | PDF | 3 MB
Over a period of roughly twenty years, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed more than 600 finished pieces of music. If you were the director of a major symphony orchestra, you could program only works by Mozart for an entire year—and still you would barely have scratched the surface of the composer's immense, and immensely moving, body of work. The Mostly Mozart Guide to Mozart is an accessible, insightful, and entertaining resource for music lovers looking for a deeper understanding of the genius of Mozart.

The Transformation of Black Music: The rhythms, the songs, and the ships of the African Diaspora by Sam Floyd, Melanie Zeck, Guthrie Ramsey screenshot
ENG | PDF | 7.25 MB
Powerful and embracive, The Transformation of Black Music explores the full spectrum of black musics over the past thousand years as Africans and their descendants have traveled around the globe making celebrated music both in their homelands and throughout the Diaspora. Authors Samuel A. Floyd, Melanie Zeck, and Guthrie Ramsey brilliantly discuss how the music has blossomed, permeated present traditions, and created new practices. As a companion to the ground-breaking The Power of Black Music, this text brilliantly situates emerging, morphing, and influential black musics in a broader framework of cultural, political, and social histories.

Baat Niklegi toh Phir: The Life and Music of Jagjit Singh by Sathya Saran screenshot

Brahms and Bruckner as Artistic Antipodes: Studies in Musical Semantics by Constantin Floros and Ernest Bernhardt-Kabisch screenshot
ENG | PDF | 7 MB
In the last third of the 19th century Brahms and Bruckner were regarded as antipodes. Is this perception really true to the historical reality or had their contemporaries overestimated the «dimension of their distance», as argued later? Both wrote autonomously conceived music, both held on to traditional forms, and both rejected program music. To find an answer to this question, part I tries to elucidate Brahms’ relation to Bruckner in its biographic, historical, artistic and art-theoretical aspects. At the center of the second part, whose subject is Brahms’ early work, is the question whether Brahms was indeed an autonomously working composer. The topic of the third part is a taboo of Bruckner research: Bruckner’s relation to program music.
