One day a German teacher lends me a book from 'Scott Joplin' and said, come back next week the whole book read. I confess that I hated his attitude, since I was not there to play popular music, blues or ragtime.
I spent the week just reading the book that I detested to each page, in the following class, he showed a par of techniques to avoid the muscular tensions that the pianists have when playing this genre, showed how the tuba is present in the accents of the left hand on the piano, he told stories, spoke of aesthetics, simple forms like the rondo used in popular music.

Until years later, someone asked me to play a Ragtime, I thought I could not remember anymore, I played and I noticed, a singular joy, that music came with soul, from there I realized that prejudice with something, is because we do not know or we are afraid of our own attitudes that may like that thing. Maybe it's a human defense, so we focus on one thing to do well.

Joplin is extraordinary.
