The number of artists within this old traditional system is minimal compared to the 7 million new artists with completed works available online.

When comparing the musical production of the entire 20th century to that of just a quarter of the 21st century, just 25 years, the latter may seem relatively small. However, it is important to recognize the exceptional milestones that have emerged during this time, such as the rise and evolution of jazz and the initial classical recordings featuring artists who, despite their talent, did not achieve historical recognition. Nevertheless, despite the high quality of contemporary music, there is an overwhelming number of artists striving to succeed and make a name for themselves.

The author Bill Schnee shares captivating stories from his extensive career in the music industry, particularly highlighting his encounters with iconic artists. While the book doesn’t aim to teach sound engineering or mixing, valuable insights can be found in the appendix. The producer emphasizes that, although artists are prominently credited, the role of the producer and engineer is crucial in shaping the final sound, much like a painter creating a work of art.

He claims that artists' names are prominently displayed on record covers, while producers' names are in small print. For me this makes sense, as artists are the ones who create by composing, singing, and rehearsing, of course, the engineer and producer are essential in making everything clean and beautiful to seel more, but, today we produce at home...no more record companies.

Don't expect to become a sound engineer or learn how to mix; the goal here is to share stories and experiences of artists he and we have admired for decades.

Notable anecdotes include the producer's experiences with legends like Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Barbra Streisand, Julio Iglesias and others, contrasting their professionalism with those who struggled in the industry. He praises Jeff Porcaro, the drummer from TOTO, as the best he’s worked with. The producer also reveals that the secret to achieving perfect vocal sounds lies in the Neumann M49 microphone, which he recommended to Streisand having at home.
